1935
The graduates we honor for their 70th class reunion are as follows: Lester Doerr, Marjorie Klitzke Davenport, Evelyn Plotner Higgins, Beulah North Irvin, Helen Pratt Dent, Agnes Shepherd Kelly, Inez Showalter Manos. Others in the class were Inez Brackney, Albert Brenner, Denzil Carmen, Franklin Elmore, Ruth McGaughey, Percival Grumbein, Wilbur Hawley, Nicolas Higgins, Dean Irvin, Mildred Irvin, Bennie Peer, Marcelline Moran, Ruth Moran, Emma Mae Norlin, Forrest Ramsey, Mildred Ramsey, Warren Ryan, Aileen Snyder, Delores Wierman and Harley Tanck.

1945
There will not be high school commencement at McCracken this year. All are boys and are expected to be called into the Armed Forces. Graduates are Kenneth Mills, Augustine Unrein, Joseph Klee and Pete Derr.

Students placing in the Kansas State Scholarship tests were Bennie Thompson, Richard Shiney, Ronald Hinman and Phyllis Cheney.

Margaret Shiney was awarded a scholarship to Bryn Mawr in Pennsylvania for the coming year.

1955
MHS will graduate ten seniors on May 10: Priscella Rixon, Bill Lovitt, Jim Jones, Wilma Pfannenstiel, Dorothy Crotinger, Carol Rein, Mary Vogle, Byron Gilbert, Bob Ohlemeier and Twila Graf.

Grade school graduates: Gerald Barnes, Melissa House, Janice Myers, Allen Showalter, Dorothy Thompson and Judy Whitis.

Floyd Thompson arrived home from Ft. Hood, TX where he recently received his discharge; Sylvester McCormick is a member of the 1st Infantry Division in Germany.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harley Irvin, a son, May 18, 1955 named John Harley.

Dorothy Fay Crotinger has been awarded a scholarship to attend Kansas State University.

1955 Class Prophecy
The following is our prophecy for nineteen hundred sixty-three!!
Byron Gilbert by then will run, for senator to Washington.
Priscella Rixon with all her charms, will operate a mink farm.
Bill Lovitt, the bashful chap, will have a fortune in his lap.
Wilma Pfannenstiel will be engaged, to a man twice her age!
Bob Ohlemeier will be snared, by a gal of whom he’s scared.
Twila Graf will not be near, she just couldn’t stand it here.

1965

Mary Beth Moore and Robert C. Higgins were married May 8, 1965 at St. Michael’s in LaCrosse.

Marion Barnes graduated from Kansas State University.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Funk a daughter Kelly Annette, May 15 in Hays.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Allan Thompson a son Kelly Allan, May 17 in Garden City.

Reginald Washaliski is one of 45 high school teachers chosen to attend the mathematic institute at Fort Hays.

Judy Brown and Ted Burke were married Sunday, May 16 in Rush Center.

McCracken High School baseball team will be going to the State Baseball tournament for the first time ever in Emporia. The Mustangs under first year Coach Rich Billinger earned the State bid by defeating Victoria 1-0 with Scott Kershner as the winning pitcher. (McCracken was defeated by Sedan 6-2 in State play).

Born to Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Foos a son Jeremy Wayne May 8 at Hays.

Nancy Higgins was Valedictorian and Greg Hinman was Salutatorian for MHS.

Janice Brack and John Haney were married May 24 at Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center.

Sunday evening the alumnus of MHS met for a banquet. Officers elected were Priscella Jacobs, Janice Stull and Donna Davis.

1975 Class Prophecy
In the year 1999 Bill Greenway and Kent Brown were watching news on TV when they saw that Glenn Ryan was a TV commentator on a special program promoting awards, new inventions and new records.
Rich Conrad had invented a new gadget which would allow a motorcycle to ride like a snowmobile.
Rosemary Rues won the Nobel Prize for her latest book.
Don Casey broke the Olympic record for the shot putt with a throw of 110 ft. 1 œ inches.
Linda Helen Sloan received ‘Woman of the Year’ award for doing social work on the Cherokee Indian Reservation.
Rob McGaughey won the Hunter of the Year Award.
Mike Moran became the Highway Patrol Sergeant in Hays, which was the 4th largest city in the United States.
Fritz Foster was the courtroom lawyer in Hays with Julie Seltman as his trusty secretary. Debi Baus was the court’s stenographer.
Gary Schuckman and Jerry Higgins were playing basketball for the Hays Huskers. Nancy Higgins was their head coach until she sat down on the bench. Greg Hinman was seen at half time still chasing the Lucas girls. The game ended with the Huskers beating the Boston Celtics 109-96.
Bill and Kent started on a trip to Denver when they stopped at a garage where Sherry Petz was in her overalls working as a mechanic.
Sally Buster owned a resort called “Sally’s’ Ski Slopes” with James Unrein and Allen Kober as her ski instructors!!

Alumni Notes
Those who are planning to play in the alumni band, Saturday, July 9 at the alumni sponsored dinner, the time to be there is 1:23 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend the alumni sponsored ‘picnic’ dinner. The cost is $7.50 for adults, $3.50 for children 6 and under. Please turn in your reservations by June 30. Thanks.

‘Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang’ T-Shirts will be available before and during the alumni/rodeo reunion. They are the same color as the sweat shirts and will sell for $8 with proceeds going to MHS alumni.

Spring News
Our sympathy to the family of Dirk James Combest 58, who died April 13, 2005 in Wichita. He was the son of Merwin and Twilla Lyon Combest. Survivors are his wife, his mother, four daughters, one brother and three sisters. Signe Barnes is one of his sisters.

Lorraine Ryan and Carolyn Thompson attended the Hutchinson Theatre Guild presentation of “On Golden Pond” at the Fox Theatre in Hutchinson on Thursday.

Coty Hinman, a student at K-State, spent the weekend with her grandparents, Wendell and Gladys Hinman. She is the daughter of Wade and Tonya Hinman.

Zach Higgins was chosen Student of the Week at Prairie Hills Middle School in Hutchinson. There are over 300 students in the school. Zach is the son of Chuck Higgins.

Justin Casey, Plainville and Matt Stremel Hays were on the first team Hays Daily News 27th annual all area team. Justin is the son of Jerry and Karen Casey. Anna Irvin was on the third team, she is the daughter of Kellye and Sandy Irvin.

Reed Blackwell and Dayle Pearson were married in December in Las Vegas. Reed is the son of Gloria and Eddie Blackwell.

The postal department is transferring Rita Brethowr to Greensboro, North Carolina. She reports to work May 9.

Bill and Marge Moran celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary by attending Mass at Timken (where they were married). They had dinner at “The Hill” with Clark and Nicole Kirk, Michele Moran, Jason Moran, John, Ellen and Josh Moran.

A benefit for Jack Wilson was held at the Ellis County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 30 with a barbecue, bull ride and Wild Horse Race. The Blaine Younger Band of Victoria performed after the rodeo. The event was sponsored by the Mid-America Rodeo Co., Charlie Reese and Gene Argo of Hays. Allan McCloy of McCloy Rodeo Co., Morse, TX brought the stock. McCloy provides the stock for the McCracken Rodeo.

Gerald Walker has taken up a new career!! He is a guitarist and plays with a band three nights a week.

Congratulations to Morgan Joseph Hannings and Kathryn Anne Shufelt on their marriage April 16, 2005. Morgan is the son of Anita Zeller Boatright, Topeka and Jack Hannings, Atlanta, Ga.

Anna Louise Cornelssen Kirton died October 28, 2004 in Stettler, Alberta, Canada. Mrs. Kirton was a 1930 graduate of McCracken High School.

Nicole Moran Kirk is the new Controller at the Hutchinson Clinic. She worked for six years as a CPA for Pierce Faris and Co. Chartered in Hutchinson.

Grace Walker recently celebrated her 96th birthday with an open house at the home of her daughter, Pat Derr. Gerald and Edna Walker, Larry Clark and Juanita Walker Caviness were among the many guests. She received a native stone carved rock from her family that reads, “Grandma Grace”. It was part of her childhood home near Nekoma.

A new plaque is in place for the memorial names in the McCracken City Park. Thanks to Roy Conrad for ‘reworking’ the plaque.

The fund-raiser dinner for the McCracken swimming pool on Saturday was a great success. Thanks to Diane and Arky McNair for donating the barbecue pork. The pool committee has about 1/3 of their goal.

Our sympathy to the family of Arthur S. “Bud” Holopirek who died April 30, 2005 at his home in LaCrosse. His niece, Marge Moran lives here.

Paula Greenway celebrated her 37th birthday at The Mustang Café on Wednesday evening with her family.

Katelyn Engel celebrated her 3rd birthday with Grandma Shirley & Grandma Paulette.

The Jail/Museum has received a copy of “A Kansas Family” collected by John Kraus, son of Sadie (Wilson) Kraus.

Lewie Elman Crawford, 89, died May 2, 2005 at Gladstone, Missouri. He was born October 9, 1915 in Leila, Missouri. He married Florence ‘Casey’ Janke in 1944, she died in 1988. He was active in the American Legion Post in McCracken and was a long time farmer and rancher in the McCracken area. One of the survivors is his son, Keith Crawford.

Willard Eugene West, 78, died May 7, 2005 in Wichita. He was born February 19, 1927, in Nekoma. He married Maxine Janke December 2, 1952. She died March 2, 2001.

Evelyn H. Murphy Bolinger died May 23, 2005. She was born in McCracken in 1927 to Archie and Hattie Murphy. Funeral services were held in Lamar, Colorado.

Hazel Wagner O’Jibway died May 26 in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 1 at Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center. She was the sister of Gladys Hinman.

Donna Greenway was pictured in the Hays Daily News on vacation at Daytona Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida in the May 4 issue.

Shannon Keith received a trophy for participating in the Smoky Hills Public Television 11th Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest for 2nd graders. Her story was entitled “Little Kitty Goes to Outer Space”. She is the daughter of Mike and Susan Keith.

Sean Dibble is a music teacher at the New World School of the Performing Arts for high school and college students in Miami, Fla. He composed three presentations, two for ballet and one for an African ensemble. He also helped with the choreography. His program was held May 16 in Miami. His mother, Carolyn Oller of Pratt attended.

Kate Rues celebrated her 3rd birthday at the McCracken City Park, eating at The Mustang Café and opening gifts from her family and friends. She is the daughter of Tony & Tomi Rues.

Sophomore Spring Blackwell, daughter of Eddie and Gloria Blackwell is on the Hays High Soccer Team.

Chase Rogers finished third in the javalinn in the RMAC at Alamosa, CO with a throw of 180’. He is a student at Fort Hays State University.

Butch & Kaira Hayes have moved from Hays to Ellis.

Western Plains High School graduates from McCracken are Casey Brown, son of Eugene Brown & Cecilia Gilbert, Jordan Janke, son of Ivan & Peggy Janke, Rashell Mills, daughter of Marty & Tina Mills. Eighth grade graduates are Sheila Brown, daughter of Eugene Brown & Cecilia Gilbert, Michael Greenway, son of Bill & Paula Greenway.

Clinton Kershner, son of Bruce & Ellen Kershner, was a Middle School graduate of LaCrosse.

Samantha Frank, daughter of William & Lorrie Morgan Frank, was a high school graduate in West Point, Nebraska.

Rita Haney, Milam, Texas; Ruby Benton, Bulverde, Texas & Ruth Rainer, Shreveport, La., all sisters were visitors in McCracken last Tuesday looking for their ‘roots’, James Travis Johnson who lived south of McCracken. If anyone knows anything about James Travis, please e-mail Carolyn or Shirley.

Carla Kay McCarrell, daughter of Lynette & Haydn Buhr & granddaughter of Carl & Velma Legleiter graduated May 14th from East Central University, Ada, Okla. That evening she became the bride of Dale Dorsey at the United Methodist Church in Pauls Valley, Okla.

Brandon Mills graduated from Fort Hays State University with a B.B.A. degree in Business Administration. He is the son of Danny & Marilyn Mills.

Andrew Hanson received his diploma from North Central Kansas Technical College. His degree was in Automotive Mechanics. Cassie Karlin and her fiancé, Andrew Strange graduated from Colby High School. They are grandchildren of Addie Mills.

Nathan Windholz, son of Kelly & Melanie Petz was a Felton Middle School graduate.

Matthew Stull placed first for NewMark Middle School at the 800 meter run at North Kansas City District track meet with a school record time of 2:15. He also placed second in the 1600 meter run. He ran on the 4X400 Meter relay that placed second. The 4X400 meter relay also set a school record at an earlier track meet. At the Liberty Invitational Relay Meet, he ran in the NewMark Distant Medley 4X400 and 4X800 which all placed first.

Jaden Jacobs graduated May 18 from Goddard High School Commencement exercises were held at Century II. He is the son of Neal and Amy Jacobs, Wichita.

Roy & Phyllis Conrad attended the 2005 Spring Concert at Beach Schmidt Performing Arts Center in Hays. Megan Conrad, daughter of Randy & Robin Conrad was one of the performers.

Koshiro Aizawa, Matsudo, Chiba Perfecture, (near Tokyo, Japan) was a guest of Ben and Carolyn Thompson. After a week of visiting and sight-seeing Carolyn and Judy Hugh took him to Omaha for his return trip via Amtrak to San Francisco after which he will return to Japan.

Barbara Davis DeJean, Richard and Carol Brown and grandson Ethan, Karen Jean & Roger Teel and granddaughters Katy & Kylee spent the weekend at Bluff Creek Lodge in Rush Center visiting with Bruce, Ellen, Clinton, Clayton & Addie Caroline Kershner in Rush Center.

David Bowersock and Shelly Thompson were married May 14, 2005 in Broken Arrow, Okla. He is the son of Melissa & the late Lee Bowersock.
