Joyce Mays and Michelle Mays Gill, Long Beach, were here over Thanksgiving and were guests of George Hunter. Thanksgiving Day they were guests of Scott and Kendra Mays in Bazine.
 
Thanks to Grayson Hampton who put the tree up in the Post Office. Very festive.
 
Austin McGaughey and Richard Showalter attended the Eric Church concert in Wichita Saturday night.
 
Les and Rose Diehl, Ron and Cathy Casey and Catherine were visitors over the weekend in McCracken. Drive by Smoky Hill Traders and see the Christmas lights.
 
A luncheon was held Monday noon at Gambino’s for the volunteers at Second Chance thrift shop. Second Chance has donated $7,250 to the various ‘programs’ in Rush County.
There is a copy in the McCracken Post Office.

McCracken History Notes
Brownies     Margaret Buxton
 One half cup butter
2 sq unsweetened chocolate
1 cup sugar
1/8 tsp salt
One half cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
Melt butter & chocolate in top of double boiler, remove from heat and add remaining ingredients. Pour into buttered 8x8 x 2” pan. Bake at 325 for 25 minutes.
 
Cherry Coconut Bars
Ruth Howell
1 cup flour
One half cup butter
One half cup brown sugar
Mix until smooth and spread thin in pan. Bake about 25 minutes in 350* oven.
Filling
2 beaten eggs                           One fourth tsp salt
1 cup sugar                               1 tsp vanilla
One fourth cup flour                  Three fourth cup chopped nuts
One half tsp baking powder      One Half cup coconut
                                                 One half cup chopped nuts
                                                 Maraschino cherries
Mix and spread over baked pastry. Bake about 25 minutes, cool and cut into bars.

Ellis High School varsity boys and girls took second in the Castle Rock Tournament at Quinter. Stephanie Greenway is a member of the girls' team.

The Gamma Zeta Sorority "A Country Christmas Home Tour 2012" was extraordinary. There are so many beautiful country homes. Besides the decorating, it was such a joy to look out the windows at the Rush county countryside.

Kevin Pham, son of Hung and Tran Pham, received a $500.00 music scholarship from the Northwest District Kansas Music Educators Association on Saturday at Hays. This scholarship is open to someone studying to be a music educator and is in his/her junior or senior year of college. Kevin is the grandson of Philena Baus of Hays.

Shannon Keith was a member of the High School Honor Band at the Northwest District KMEA on Saturday. She plays the trombone.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 29 at 6:30 p.m. for mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Pascal Klein officiating.

4. Wichita. Dumont Stadium is named for him. He brought Satchel Paige in to pitch in 1935.

5. Smoky Joe Wood. In 1912 he was matched against fellow Kansan Walter "Big Train" Johnson from Humbolt. Wood played for Boston and Johnson for the Washington Senators.
