The Pro Art Club of LaCrosse performed the Cantata, Darkness into Light on Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McCracken. The church was beautifully decorated for Christmas by members of the parish. It featured red poinsettias on the ornate white altar. The choir in black emphasized the beauty of the sanctuary. On the right were the lighted Christmas trees surrounding the crib of the Christ Child. The St. Mary's Church Committee and the Faith Sharing group provided the refreshments for the event. The music uplifted the spirits of everyone present. It was truly a wondrous event and the perfect prelude to the coming of Christ. We appreciate everyone who came.
Hampton on the Fort Hays - Fort Dodge Trail: Clarence Tobey was employed as a teacher at the Hampton school. He received a magnificent sum of $20.00 per month. It was the first school district in the county northwest of LaCrosse.
Richard Mulroy built a two-store stone house at Hampton. In 1878 a team of oxen which he was picketing at Hampton, entangled him in a rope and severely injured him. Mr. Mulroy was appointed weigh master at Hays. The children built the Mulroy Hotel there and became quite famous.
Saturday was filled with activities at the City Building --- the sirens announced the coming of Santa Claus to start the event. The firemen travelled around town on the fire truck to deliver sacks of peanuts and candy to the elderly. The day of events was enjoyed by all. Thanks to our firemen for all they do to keep our community and the surrounding area safe.
We truly have a wonderful community and it is so refreshing to see how all the citizens work hard to make it a great place to live.
Mark McCormick, Linda Dale, Mary McCormick and Lance McCormick were Thanksgiving guests of Joann Micheli. Also thanks to Mark and Lance for repairing the lights at the park.

Thanksgiving at the home of Tim, Maddie and Lily Rues in Topeka were Alex, Catherine, John, Cathy and Ron Casey; Arline Rues; Leigh and Alicia Rues Barrett; Mary Dunn; Tony, Tomi, Emma, Kate & Will Rues, ..Maddie & Emma did some power shopping.
Rich Higgins & Cody and friends arrived early this weekend and hunted for deer.
Clinton, Jay, Scott and Chris, Kansas City, were here this past week deer hunting. They returned home Friday afternoon.
Christmas lights look wonderful around McCracken. The park looks especially nice as does all the homes. It all makes a difference.
The Christmas Cantata by the Rush County Community Choir performed at St. Marys Catholic Church in McCracken Sunday afternoon was AWESOME. Our Church was beautiful as always. Thanks to those who made it special for Christmas. sh

Paul (Busch) Gross, athletic director at Fort Hays for 34 years, died Sunday December after undergoing surgery in a Topeka Hospital.
Floyd & Carolyn Thompson, Chet & Joyce Rogers and Debbie attended the Girl Scout Lodge at Tasco Sunday afternoon. Debbie is one of eight girls chosen as delegates for this area to attend the Senior Round-Up to be held in Idaho next July.
Eugene McGaughey was dismissed Saturday from the Ness County hospital where he had been a patient for the past two months.

Gary Turner, Otis, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Meehan.
King and Sylvia Mason and family were supper guests Thursday evening of Harlon and Mildred Anderson.
A reunion of the Lon Irvin family was held Tuesday of last week at the home of Bert and Ida Irvin.
The McCracken New Era Club will hold their Christmas meeting at the McCracken Hotel with Mrs. Bessie North and Mrs. Carrie North as Hostesses.
