Kathleen Langdon, Booneville, Missouri, was a guest of Shirley Higgins Tuesday – Sunday. Wednesday they motored to LaCrosse where they visited Second Chance, and on to Hays where they went to The Arc. Shopping at Thrift Stores is a couple of their favorite things to do. Saturday evening Kathleen made delicious Tacos at her husband Roy’s house in McCracken, guests were Mike Conner, Lori Woods, Mitch, Nikki and Natalie Conner, and Shirley.

I enjoyed reading Linda’s article about Chuck Higgins winning a boat 50 years ago. Wiley Branson worked for the State of Kansas Highway Dept., he bought a ticket and wrote Chuck’s name on it and Chuck won. Fifty years ago Topeka was much further away than it is today and it took like forever to go pick it up, when we did it sat at the farm for a quite long time. Doug Higgins was living in Fredonia, Kansas at the time, (they had more water there than in Rush/Ness counties so the boat was traded to him for a little motorcycle.) Doug used it all the time and when Chuck graduated from Hutch Juco he helped Billy Hughes coach baseball and rode the ‘cycle’ to practice. Of course we still have it even though it doesn’t run!!

Anita Butler, Cathy Casey, Babe and Arlene Gilbert motored to Ness City, Tuesday where they enjoyed watching Ness City win over Macksville. Brandt Rogers is their coach and is the husband of the former Haily Gilbert.
Thanks to Kathleen Langdon who found a 1951 UM Church cook book in Second Chance. I talked her into giving it to me for the McCracken Museum.

Dennis Peters stopped by Sunday afternoon and visited about an hour. I really enjoyed the visit.

Congratulations to Jaden and Jenna Jacobs on the birth of a son, Hesston Charles, born onday, November 26, 2018.

Doug Higgins is in Florida attending a National Educational Testing Program. Doug is a supervisor in his area.

Ron and Cathy Casey have been at their home in McCracken for a couple of weeks, on Monday the coldest day ever, they went to Hays.

Kathleen Langdon hosted a taco supper at the home of her husband’s house in McCracken Saturday evening. Those attending were Mike Conner, Lori Woods, Mitchell and Nikki Conner and Natalie.

Patricia Petz:

The weather was  very cold, but Mom and I attended "Noel: The Musical" at F.H.S.U. on Wednesday evening.  Noel was a holiday musical that told about the touching story of a young girl who was preparing for her school Christmas performance when her mother suddenly disappeared.  In looking for her mother, Noel comes upon a group of homeless people who have lost their way in life.  One particular man, Nick, had lost his faith in humanity and his joy of Christmas.  We soon learn that Nick is actually St. Nicholas, who has turned his back on his "old job."  He found that the world had forgotten the real meaning of Christmas, so he walked away to help the people who really needed it.  In their adventure to find Noel's mom, they learn to find hope in themselves and in the world.  Throughout the performance, we listened to many talented singers.

Thursday, was a very fun and exciting day as mom, (Mary Steitz), Viola Enslinger, and myself headed to Scott City to help celebrate a very important birthday.  Their cousin, Cindy (Weber) Unrein (formerly from La Crosse), was surprised by her children on her 90th birthday.  Cindy had a dining room full of family and friends.   She is in the Assisted Living apartments and her health is excellent!  She was surprised by her children, Kathy (Unrein) Lowenthal, Bev (Unrein) Pinnell, and her husband Roger, and Terry Unrien and his wife Sharon. It was a day that these three ladies will remember for a long time to come.

After I returned home, I learned that my son, Kelly, had gotten shoved into the corral by a cow and had to be taken to the ER in Hays.  After many X-rays, they determined that he had a fractured fibula in his left leg.  Other than being in a lot of pain, the hardest part will be trying to keep him from working for the next 2 to 4 weeks. Hopefully, he has a lot of patience and that he recovers well and doesn't hinder the recovery process.

Mom and I left Friday afternoon for Wichita in the fog.  I had a show at Century II at the holiday event entitled: "Holiday Sip N Shop, Til You Drop." I had never really driven in downtown Wichita, so I was a little on edge.  Eventhough, most of the driving was in the dark, I thought I did a pretty good job.  We set up my booth Friday evening and spent the night at a very nice Best Western in Park City.  After the event on Saturday, mom and I traveled to McPherson and spent the night with my daughter, Angie.

Sunday, mom and I attended mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mc Pherson and then we ate at the new Italian restaurant on Main Street.  The food was delicious and filling which made it very difficult for the next couple of hours of driving. We were both excited about returning home after all of the activities that we took part in this week.
