In the Country Living magazine for November it told of an Honor Flight of 36 World War 11 veterans from the Ellsworth area that went to Washington, D. C. to visit the World War 11 memorial.  Accompanying the flight was John Mehler of Ellsworth.  John’s parents, Leonard and Ruth Mehler lived here in McCracken until February 1959, when he was transferred to Plainville.  Doris and Roy Jones moved into their house (now Robert Tilford’s).   Leonard worked for Western Power.  John’s mother, Ruth is still living in Ellsworth and John’s sister, Raylene, lives in Dallas. Ruth just got back from visiting Raylene.  John is a lineman for Western Coop Electric and plans to retire in a year. He is 61.  The group left from Ellsworth aboard one of the school district’s school buses and stayed all night at the barracks at Fort Leavenworth.  They then took a flight from Kansas City to Washington D. C.  A lunch was provided at the memorial.    Francis Zeller called John on Friday morning and renewed acquaintance.
