Carolyn Davenport spent last week-end in Wichita with Travis, Tina, Katie, and Tanner Elias. Tanner was participating in a football tournament at Newton on Saturday evening.
Dave was a week-end hunting guest of Donnie Schuckman. He left his hunting dog behind but he did take his gun. There weren't any birds brought home. Dave claims he is using "old shells" that he loaded way back and that is the reason he is missing all the birds. The age wouldn't have anything to do with it!!!
Thayne and Machree Jones spent Thanksgiving with Thayne's sister and brother-in-law, Don and Arlene Dykes, in Loveland, CO.
Grandpa Bob House, Eric and Melissa Davis and Sue Davis enjoyed Thanksgiving Day with Allen and Cheryl Werth, Matt Groff and Kaci Voght in Hays. Dustin and Lisa Day, Keldon, McKaylee and Kelby were guests for supper.
Thanksgiving guests of Priscella Jacobs for Thanksgiving were Neal, Amy, Jaden & Tessa Jacobs, Mitch Jacobs, Terrie Lasater, Anton & Kaden Foust, Sean Peters and Sandra Jacobs.
Thanksgiving dinner guests of Pat Derr were Deb Rogers, Layne, Kerri, Katlyn and Angela Morgan, Dave, Derek and Carly Derr, Scott and Emily Keener, Kevin, Valerie, Lexi, Zoe, Rylin, Kamryn and Quinn Anderson, Leonard Anderson, Virginia Evans and Ron Johnson.
Mike, Mary Beth, Zach and Brendon Peach traveled one block to Don and Helen Peach's for Thanksgiving. Others in attendance were: Charles and Helen Petrik of Manhattan, Dorothy McCullum of Hays, Dustin, Molly, and Caleb Petrik of Lincoln, Nebraska, Amanda Petrik of Topeka, Ron Peach of Kansas City, Missouri, Don, Susan, Elliott, Clark, and Nolan Peach of Elbert, Colorado, and Clark's friend, Diane. A good Thanksgiving was had by all in attendance.
Guests of Travis, and Ava North and girls, Breonna, Abigail, and Natalee were Avas mom Cynthia Swan, her brother Thomas Moeder and friends Lee Wechamp and his fiance Alisha Schlitt. Lee and Alisha stayed the weekend! They didn't hear the alarm for Black Friday shopping at 3 am so they were late heading out for the sales. They were hopeful there was something left. They finished off their wonderful day with the Christmas tree and decorations going up!!!
Martin and Mary Higgins, Lenexa, entertained their children, Joe and Cyndi Higgins and Carrie Higgins, and also Ken Kampling, Lenexa, and Ellen Eaton, Overland Park, on Thanksgiving Day with a tasty turkey/prime rib, pumpkin pie dinner. Everyone enjoyed the day of eating and visiting. Cyndi had to work at 3:00 p.m. but the other two "kids" were off for the day. Joe, however, had to go in to his job at Office Max at 7:45 a.m. on BLACK FRIDAY. The day went well though --- he said there were not too many "crazy people" coming to Office Max. He seems to enjoy his new job. The Higgins' hope everyone in McCracken had a lovely day too.
Thanksgiving Dinner at the home of Bruce & Ellen Kershner was spent with just the family. Grandpa House and Annie joined them for supper.
Johnny Mac Showalter hosted Thanksgiving dinner at the Legion in McCracken on Thursday. Guests were Richard Showalter; Jason Showalter and his girls, Havyn, Shali and Tabree; Amanda Showalter, Rianne, Kyson and Terran; Robbie McGaughey and Austin; George and Joy Hunter, aunt Kate Ryan, aunt Lucy Vogle and Mary McCormick.
Arlyn and Jan North motored to Wichita where they met their Texas kids, Ronn and Laura Martin, Aiden and Sarah. Joining them were Ted and Shawna North, Clay and Dalton, Heath and Paula North, Brandon, Logan and Carson. Ask Jan if their turkey was well done!!
Mike Conner and Shelly Derr had Thanksgiving at the home of Glenn Conner. Other guests were Christie Schneider and Alyssa, Wakeeney; Mitchell, Nikki, Bryce and Natalie Conner, LaCrosse; Carly and Derek Derr, Brad Pfannenstiel, Abbie Conner and Andy Johnson.

Bob and Margaret Fear spent Thanksgiving in Hays at the home of their daughter, Bart and Nicole Tarbell and Braylen.
Babe and Arlene Gilbert and Lorraine Ryan enjoyed Thanksgiving at the home of Bob and Marlene Funk in Wakeeney. Also in attendance were Bob and Marlenes families.
Brett and Holly Gilbert and girls spent the day with her parents in Ellis.
Guests of Arky and Diana McNair for Thanksgiving were her mother, Charlotte Ochs, and brother Phil Ochs.
Teresa Lovitt and Jennifer Lovitt, Dodge City, were in Ransom for Thanksgiving at the home of their parents, Bill and Sharon Lovitt.
Wednesday before Thanksgiving Les and Rose Diehl hosted a soup supper for all her family and in addition guests were Richard and Nancy Baker and daughter, Syndi Baker, Sue Schuster, Betty Lou Pardue and sister, Bonita.

Joyce and Chet Rogers hosted Thanksgiving dinner in their home on Thursday. Those attending were: Roxie and Ron Dechant, Dodge City; Tammy Ogorzolka and her two sets of twins--Haley, Hadyn, Addison, and Abbigail, Bucklin; Derek Dechant and his friend Angel and her son, Minneola; Debbie Smith, Norton; Tawny and Jim Voyles, Wichita; Sheryl and Les Rogers, McCracken; Chase and Kelsee Rogers, Hays; and Kelsee's friend, Brian Hersch, Abilene.
Sheryl, Les, Chase, and Kelsee Rogers and Sharon and John Irvin also motored to Topeka for a Thanksgiving gathering on Saturday. Jamie, Mary, Collin, and Evan Robinson hosted the occasion. Also attending were: Kayla and Allen Casey, Topeka; Lance and Jesse Irvin, Wichita; Ruth and Dave Heffel, Hays; and Ryan and Kristen Heffel, Lawrence.
Lanette Mathews, Lawrence, was guest of Lenora Stremel and Shirley Bundy for the Thanksgiving holidays.
Ty and Tina Elias were guests of Carolyn and Dave Davenport. Quintin was with his Tribune grandparents due to Tina having surgery on Monday at Hays.

Robert L. May in 1939 created Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for a storybook that was given away by the Montgomery Ward department stores. As a boy, May had been teased about his small size, so he developed this character reindeer with a physical quirk. Mays boss was concerned the shiny red nose might be associated with drinking but after seeing the sketches of the reindeer, the company was won over.
Santa Claus is coming to McCracken Sunday, December 13th at 3 pm. There will be candy and peanuts for the kids.
State Representative Don Hineman will be at the McCracken Public Library Tuesday, December 8th, starting at 2 pm. He will be discussing small libraries.
Hoop and Twila Higgins met Matthew Higgins at the bus in Hays on Monday. Larry, Melody and granddaughter Bailey came in on the plane on Wednesday evening. Doug, Mary, Brett, Danielle, Dez and Dev, Luke, Alex, Ean and Gabe came Thanksgiving Day. Michelle and friend came Friday. Melodys sister from Colby spent Friday visiting all of Larrys family here in McCracken.
John, Ellen and Josh Moran had Thanksgiving dinner at Great Bend. Attending were Michele, Jason and Marge Morgan, Shirley Endsley, Larry and Rose Merchant and family and Jessie and Lynn Merchant and family. In the evening Michele, Ellen and Marge went to Burrton to stay with Clark, Nicole and Madison. Friday, Clark, Nicole and Ellen went Black Friday shopping in Wichita and Michele went shopping in Hutchinson, Grandmother Marge was baby sitting. John, Ellen and Josh Moran came to McCracken for the rest of the weekend.
Bet and Jeanette McCormick went to Jeff and Julie McCormicks in Hutchinson for Thanksgiving.
Josh Morans Great Bend Panthers 7th grade football team participated in the Tri-State Championships in Lawrence November 7 and 8.
Our sympathy to the family of Dan and Kim Townsend on the death of his mother, Audrey Clark at Abilene. Those attending the funeral on Saturday were Bet and Jeanette McCormick, Lance and Garrett McCormick, Mary Margaret McCormick, McCracken; Mark McCormick and Yvonne of Olathe and Jeff and Julie McCormick, Hutchinson.
The Jail/Museum has received a cookbook (250 Classic Cake Recipes) and a pie birdie that belonged to Louise Marvin Burnham donated by her children, Larry Burnham, Dell Burnham and Lowell Burnham. The cookbook was a wedding gift received by their parents, L. Louise Marvin and H. Joseph Burnham on January 27, 1946. The Cake Cookbook and Pie Birdie were a gift from Aunt Alta and Uncle Russell Marvin. . Howard Yost was given the box with the cookbook and pie birdie when they came to visit their Aunt Helen at St. Johns Rest Home in Hays and passed them on to the museum. Louise kept a diary and she noted that she baked many cakes between her college graduation and her marriage.
Susan and Shannon Keith and Carolyn Thompson were in Wichita on Saturday to attend the surprise 40th birthday party for David Dennis at Rivercity Brewery.

December 1909
For the first time in eight years, Missouri won the football game last Thursday from Kansas University by a score of 12-6. The coaching of Roper of Princeton was responsible for the victory. Neither the Missouri nor Kansas team lost a game this year until yesterday. It is estimated 15,000 people saw the game.
John McGaughey and family left Wednesday morning for Los Angeles where they expect to make their home.

Joe Unrein believes that there are no fishermen in McCracken who like to fish because no one has come to help him with his dam.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray S. Irvin returned to their home this week from a three and one half month trip around the world. They visited 17 countries, crossed three oceans and seven seas and visited 15 port cities.
Wilma Baus, daughter of Mrs. William Baus, has been selected for membership in Whos Whos in American Colleges and Universities. She is a senior at Fort Hays Kansas State College majoring in business and economics.
