Black Friday early shoppers at Wal-Mart in Topeka were Mary Dunn and Cathy Casey. We heard they were in the parking lot at 3:30 a.m.

John Zeller had knee surgery in Great Bend on Tuesday. It was a success as he went back to work Monday
Thanksgiving guests of Tyrel Elias were Dennis and Jeannie Elias and Marge Elias. His nephew Tanner had the flu so Travis, Tina and Katie couldnt attend.
Scott and Kendra Mays attended the Chiefs Denver Broncos football game in Kansas City Thanksgiving Day.
Heath and Paula North and family enjoyed Thanksgiving with Ronn and Laura Martin and family in Ft. Worth.
Bob and Linda Dale, Evan, Audra, their dogs Zoe and Sam spent Thanksgiving with her mother, Joann Micheli.

Kellye and Sandy Irvin and family spent Thanksgiving in Manhattan with Dennis and Arlene Irvin and family. On their way home they stopped in Salina and visited with Milton and Cheryl Larsen and family.

Thursday evening, Priscella and Jaden were guests of Mitch Jacobs and Terri Lassater. Neal, Amy and Tessa Jacobs were in Houston for the Holidays.
Don, Lynnette, and Taylor Doornbos traveled to Grinnell to Grandma Kinderknect's house for a big feast Thanksgiving Day.

Matthew Stull and the Oak Park High School Cross-Country team qualified for state with a 2nd place finish at the Class 4 Sectional 4 qualifying meet. At state, Matthew finished 60th out of a 162 runners and Oak Park finished 8th as a team. Attending the state meet to watch Matthew run were his grandparents, Jess and Jolene Showalter and John and Janice Stull as well as his Aunt Jacque Sparrow. Matthew also qualifed for the AAU National Cross Country Meet in Orlando, Florida, December 2nd. He was also named to the Kansas City All Metro cross-country team.
Tony Harp, Paulette Harp, Jack Nicholson, Justin Herrman, Dan and Will Zeller were guests of Phil and Pauline Nicholson in Ellis for Thanksgiving.
Julie and Craig Stull spent Thanksgiving week in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for their 20th wedding anniversary. Watching the kids and cooking Thanksgiving dinner in Kanasas City were Jess and Jolene Showalter and Jacque and Madyson Sparrow. Unfortunately, the weather in Kansas City was almost as warm as it was in Fort Lauderdale. They broke several cold records while Julie and Craig were there.
Dave and Carolyn Davenport and Lyle Davenport ate Thanksgiving dinner with Midge Davenport at the Manor.
The totals for the United Way Campaign for McCracken & Hampton Township- - - Hampton Township met their goal of $175 by collecting $200. McCracken was short of reaching their goal of $475 as only $370 was collected.
Mike and Mary Beth Peach, Zach and Brendon traveled to La Crosse for Thanksgiving Day. They were guests of Don and Helen Peach. Other families celebrating with them were: Charles and Helen Petrik, Manhattan, Dustin and Molly Petrik, Iowa City, IA, Josh Petrik, Haysville, Ryan Petrik, Mission, KS, Amanda Petrik, Lawrence, Ron Peach, Kansas City MO, and Don, Susan, Nolan, Clark Peach and Clark's friend, Ruth, from Edgerton, CO.
Danny and Pat Petz spent Thanksgiving Day with Pat's parents, Mary and Leland Steitz of LaCrosse. Other family members attending were DeWayne and Vicky Foos, Jeremy & Lisa Foos & family and Bob and Jendee Dalton & family.
Grandpa Bob House, Cheryl and Allen Werth of Hays (they rode their motorcycles to Rush Center) enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Bruce and Ellen Kershner and family. Grandpa House, Ellen & Addie visited friends at the Rush County Nursing Home and at Long Term care in the afternoon.
Jason, Tammy and Abi, Jeff, Shelly, Carly, Dereck and Lauren were Thanksgiving dinner guests of Craig and Deb Rixon. Thanksgiving afternoon the kids cleaned house, Craig and Deb left for Jewel where they visited with Peggy Smith. They traveled to Concordia on Friday to be with Matthew Smith.
Thanksgiving Day guests of John and Sharon Irvin were Vicky Overley, Sally Irvin, Lance Irvin and friend Jessie and Kayla Irvin.
Bill and Paula Greenway enjoyed Thanksgiving at the home of Betty Greenway. Joining them were Donna and Allen Hill. They also had a Thanksgiving with Crawshaw relatives at the United Methodist Church.

The Christmas lights are up on Main Street. Smokey Hill Traders display windows have been lighted and decorated for Christmas by Les and Rose Diehl.
Bryan Bergquist caught a large walleye at Cedar Bluff. It was 28" long and about seven pounds.

Thanksgiving guests of Ray and Laura Wierman, Bennington, were Francis and Roberta Wierman, Rita Brethour, Greensboro, N.C., Marilyn and George Sommers, Silver Lake; Shane and Jill Brethour, Ivan and Tessa, Olathe, Cindy, Jerrod and Jennifer Wierman, Wendell and Gladys Hinman, Jeff Hinman, Joey and Jill Hershbach, Salina. They also celebrated Francis and Roberta's 58th wedding anniversary.
The West Side Winners 4-H Club of Rush County, Kansas were invited by Sarah Priddy, PSR teacher of St. Michael's Catholic Church in LaCrosse, to take part in a project to send cookies to the troops in Iraq. On Friday, November 24, Angela Morgan, Katlyn Morgan, Alyse Mantz Bradshaw, Brian Legleiter, Kerri Morgan, Austin McGaughey and Grayson (cousin of Alyse) got together at the McCracken United Methodist Church to bake 320 or about 30 dozen cookies. It took them from 1:20 to 4:15. They were packed in Pringles cans and wrapped. Others helping with the project were Leah Baus, Elizabeth Pfeiffer, Brenda Legleiter and Melissa Bradshaw. Members parents donated ingredients.
Allen and Wilma Ross and Donna Engel took Jim Schafer to Cunningham for a family Thanksgiving dinner. There were 35 to 40 in attendance. On Saturday Bill Schafer, his wife and kids visited Jim. They are from Topeka.
Wilma F. Serpan died November 18, 2006 at Lyons. She was the daughter of John and Emmerencia Munsch Pfannenstiel. She was born August 2, 1931 in Schoenchen. One of her sisters is Phil Wahl of Edmond, Okla. Phil was the wife of the late Stanley Wahl of McCracken.
Rich Conrad became a St. Louis Cardinal fan in 1968 when he sat on the lap of his grandfather Adam Conrad and listened to the World Series games. He now lives in St. Louis and has season tickets to the games. His sons Andrew and Mike got to watch the winning game when the Cardinals won this year. They were also interviewed on TV. While Rich was home for Thanksgiving, he brought Carolyn books, newspapers, pictures and a pennant from the 2006 World Series. Thank you so much, Rich.
Guests of Eunice North for Thanksgiving were Arlyn and Jan North, Paul North, Daniel and Janice Basgall, Dane, Danae and Taylan, Chris and Cindy Zadina and Julia, Travis, Ava, Brianna and Abby North. Ted and Shawna North, Clay and Dalton were supper guests.
Addie Mills had as her guests on Thanksgiving, Danny and Marilyn Mills and sons from Gorham. Marty Mills dropped by in the afternoon for a visit.
Don and DeAnna Bergquist were Sunday Thanksgiving guests of Bryan and Treva Bergquist, Anna and Audra.
Mike, Susan and Shannon Keith and Carolyn Thompson were guests of David and Janet Dennis in Wichita for Thanksgiving. In the evening Carolyn joined Mary Ann Eitel Gabrielson and Galen Allen, Great Bend, and Edra Ann Stejskal Gaschler, Omaha, Nebraska, in Great Bend for an evening Thanksgiving meal. They also toured the Christmas lights at Veterans Park and the City Park. Edra is a descendant of the Nickel and Rodeman families of McCracken and the Stejskal family of Timken. Mary Ann's family lived in a soddy near the McCracken Cemetery.
Katherine Ryan had a heart cath on Saturday at Hays Medical Center. They put in a stent. She returned home on Sunday.
Edith Amanda Grumbein Wardlaw, 95, of Alexander died November 22, 2006 at Ness City. She was born December 31, 1910 in McCracken to Roland H. and Priscilla Mary Swaney Grumbein. She is a member of early settlers William and Amanda Heiberling Grumbein who established the town of Roland northeast of Jack Wilson's farm prior to moving into McCracken. Edith married Chester Wardlaw on July 1, 1928 in Jetmore. He died June 8, 1964. She is survived by two sons, James and David and a daughter Phyllis Neidigh, 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Burial was in Alexander Cemetery.
Congratulations to Joan Micheli. She took part in the "Rite of Welcome" at St. Joseph Church in Liebenthal on Saturday, November 25. This was her first step in the RCIA program to become in full communion with the church. Her sponsor is Jean Schutte.
Nicole and Clark Kirk, Burrton, and Michele Moran were guests of Marge and Bill Moran for the Thanksgiving weekend. On Thanksgiving they all went to John, Ellen and Josh Moran's at Great Bend. Others joining them were Jason Moran, Shirley Endsley and Jesse and Lynn Merchant of Luray. Luncheon guests of Bill and Marge on Friday were Gene Wendling, Halstead and Jean Moran, Kansas City, and supper guests were Leroy and Marie Reifschneider.
George and Joyce Hunter and Katherine Ryan went to the Holiday Inn in Hays for Thanksgiving dinner.

Mr. F. P. Starrett has traded his stock of goods at Arnold to Herbert Miller for a 240 acre farm two miles east of Nekoma. It is valued at $5,000.
W. W. Nichols sold a quarter section of land he owned adjoining the Patton place west of the Catholic Church to B. T. Cutler for $1,600 cash.

Elmore Ryan, Franklin Elmore and Lester Doerr are attending school at Kansas University.

The May Anne dress shop opened Saturday and the proprietor, Mrs. Polly Doerr, was well pleased with the day's business. She offers up-to-date ladies apparel.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Ramsey went to Wichita Wednesday of last week to visit his father, E. E. Ramsey and his sister, Mrs. Harold Anderson and family.
Mrs. Bert Irvin was hostess to the Philathea class at her home Thursday afternoon.

Investiture was held Tuesday, November 16 for three second grade Brownies. They are Penny Schuckman, Debra Gaunt and Tracy Zinn.

Five hundred, 8-12" rainbow trout were recently stocked into the stilling basin area at Cedar Bluff. Recent rains have enhanced the basin to a level suitable to support fish populations
McCracken Middle School is holding a book fair at the school library. Eleanor Wells is in charge.

Francis Zeller has been busy this last week remodeling the old beauty shop behind the Bank of McCracken building. The space has been re-wired.
Thayne and Machree Jones helped move Chris Jones from Wichita to Hays this past week.
