 Penny Schuckman, Lisa Gaschler, Brandon Ermy, and his girlfriend Mandy were guests of LeeRoy Schuckman in Hays.  On Thanksgiving Day they all went to eat dinner with Esther Schuckman at LaCrosse.  Joining them were other nieces and nephews. Robin went hunting!!!!!  Robin and LeeRoy will leave Sunday to go to Houston for LeeRoy’s operation on the 27th. 
 
Arline Rues had a total knee replacement this past week and is recuperating very well.  Cards may be sent to her at 1226 SW Oakley, Topeka, KS  66604-2409.
 
 Tim and Stacy Rues, Maddie and Lily hosted Thanksgiving at their home in Topeka,  Those attending were Leigh, Alicia, Cathy, Ron, Alex, Catherine, John, Tony, Tomi, Shelby, Emma, Katie, Will, Les and Rose and Mary Dunn....they will then all converge (in shifts) on Arline at the hospital for visits.
 
Thayne and Machree Jones motored to Wichita where they were guests of Chris and Tessa Jones for Thanksgiving
 
Thanksgiving Day Dinner guests of Betty Greenway were Allan, Donna, Chewy and Kasey Hill, Victoria. Bill, Paula, William, Michael and Stephanie Greenway, McCracken. (Chewy and Kasey are our dogs).
 
Martin and Mary Higgins stayed home with the 3 kids.  Mary baked a turkey --- Joe's hotel gave all their employees a bird so we just chilled and rested.  Martin and Mary had been down to Branson for 3 days with friends who have a time share there so had a good time.
 
 Babe and Arlene Gilbert baked a turkey and took it to Wakeeney to have dinner with Marlene and Bob Funk.  Brett and Holly Gilbert & girls went to Holly's folks, Shirley and Shorty Kroeger. Sage and Delta (our puppies) had to stay home!
 
A memorial has been given to the McCracken Library in memory of Stanley Irvin from Charles and Pat Walker; Dennis and Susan Walker; Duane and Dixie Williams and Kellye and Diana Hart.
 
Jean Schutte enjoyed Thanksgiving Day with Bet and Jeanette McCormick.  Joining them were Marsha and Mike Harrison, Ness City.
 
The Steve Foreman family hosted Thanksgiving dinner Thursday at their home in Haysville.  Those attending were  Sanford & Juanita Foreman; Steve, Nadine, Jesse, & Kyle Foreman; (Jesse's friend Jessica stopped by after lunch); Milton & Cheryl Larson, Tanner & Alyssa; Terry & Stacey Spenst, Nathan & Nicholas; Kellye & Sandy Irvin, Kayla & Scott; Brandon & Anna Legleiter & Graycie. Once back in Rush County the Irvins stopped out at Chad & Ambers that evening for left-over's.
 
Aaron and Leslie McGaughey, Johnny Mac and Richard Showalter, Jason & Jessica Showalter and girls, Amanda Showalter and family, Rob and Helena McGaughey, Terry and Helen Showalter enjoyed Thanksgiving with Ashley McGaughey in Salina.  Austin cooked Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday for his parents in McCracken. Joining them were John and Richard and Roy Jensen.  He then went to Denver to help load the Christmas boxes.
 
Thanksgiving Dinner guests at Roy & Phyllis Conrad were Sylvester Conrad, Rich & Linda, Andrew & Mike Conrad from St. Louis, Mo. and Ashleigh DaVault from Vichey, Mo., Neil, Rhonda, Chandler and Ashleigh Allen from Wichita. Joining them Thanksgiving Day were Randy Conrad and Karen Matal from Liebenthal.
 
Roger & Norma McNair spent Thanksgiving Day with Arkie and Diana McNair, Charlotte Ochs and Phil Ochs of Salina.
 
All the kids and grandkids were home for Thanksgiving at the home of Shirley Higgins.
 
Lance and Cheryl McCormick spent Thanksgiving in McCracken.
  
Dave and Carolyn Davenport had Thanksgiving dinner with Marjorie Davenport at the Mennonite Manor. On Saturday they motored to McCracken where Ty Elias, Tina Harris and Quintin hosted a Thankgiving dinner. Attending were Dave and Carolyn Davenport, Hutchinson; Travis, Tina, Katie, Tanner Elias, Oakley; Ken Harris, Kinsley, Chad Harris, Dodge City and Katie Sparks, Dodge City.
 
Weekend visitors of Gladys & Wendell Hinman were Tonya & Wade Hinman, Coty &
Zaccary, Kansas City; Sheila & Greg Hinman, Lewis

Bill & Kelly Harp, Brian Harp, Michael, Jen, & Dylan Harp were guests over the long weekend at Tony Harp's house.  They also enjoyed Thanksgiving Day in Grinnell with Grandma Agnes Kinderknecht. Also joining them were Don, Lynnette, Katelyn and Taylor Doornbos.
 
Debbie Rogers, Roger and Norma McNair along with Carly and Derek Derr, Andy Johnson, Brian Legleiter and Austin McGaughey accompanied the Christmas Shoe Boxes for Operation Christmas to Denver.  They were guests of Roger’s daughter, Tammy and Jeremy.  They all enjoyed the rec center and church on Sunday.  They returned home after church.
 
The NewMark Middle School volleyball team completed an undefeated season this year with a record of 15-0.  The team captured the NKC School District Championship Tournament this fall with a 4-0 record in pool play and then two game wins in both semi-finals and finals.  Katelynn Stull was a member of the team.  Those attending the tournmament were her grandparents Jess and Jolene Showalter and her aunt Jacque Sparrow.
 
The Oak Park High School cross-country team won their conference, and district tournament this fall.  They closed out the season with a 2nd place finish at Sectionals and a 6th place finish at the state XC meet.  Matthew Stull garnered all conference (4th place finish), district (2nd place finish), and sectional (12th place finish) honors and finished 38th at the state meet in class 4.  Those attending the state XC meet in Jefferson City were John and Janice Stull, Jess and Jolene Showalter, and Jacque Sparrow, Craig, Julie, Jessica and Katelynn.
 
Priscilla Jacobs, Sean Peters, Sandra Jacobs, Mitchell Jacobs, Terrie Lasater and Nicole Ryan enjoyed Thanksgiving in Wichita with Neal, Amy, Jaden and Tessa Jacobs.
 
Phyllis Higgins motored to Hutchinson and enjoyed Thanksgiving at the home of Maddie Petz.  Joining them were Jim, Terry, Megan, Josh and Clayton Everhart; Sheryl and Benny McCaskey, Jim and Donna Rein; Kari, Emily and Blake Peters, her friend Billy, Dennis and Arlene Everhart.  Saturday Phyllis, Maddie, Terry and Sheryl were joined by Sandy Musgrove in Wichita where they had lunch and dinner with Sabrina and Sam Hurt.  Ron, Sabrina and Sam had come to Wichita for Thanksgiving.  Ron was hunting with some of his relatives.  Phyllis returned home Sunday.
 
Julie, Craig, Katelynn, Matthew and Jessica spent Thanksgiving at Jess and Jolene Showalters home in Bloomington, Illinois.  Jacque and Madyson Sparrow and Jeff, Karen, Nick and Lexi Showalter were also Thanksgiving Day guests.
November 29, 2007 News
 
The Park committee began setting up for Christmas a week ago last Saturday.  Those helping were Phyllis and Roy Conrad, Gladys and Wendell Hinman, Twila Higgins, Laura Linsey, Pat Derr, Sandra Jacobs and Jean Schutte.
 
  Francis and Julia Zeller, John and Melanie Zeller, Tracy Lewis, Carol Weber, Sylvia Werth, Lorraine Ryan, Carolyn Thompson, Susan Rebel, John Irvin and Jessie Irvin attended the Encore presentation Cirque-Works Birdhouse Factory on November 14, at Beach-Schmidt Performing Arts Center.
 
Jason, Michele, Bill and Marge Moran were at John, Ellen and Joshua Moran’s home in Great Bend for Thanksgiving.  Also attending were Shirley Ensley, Larry Merchant, Robert and Cody and Jessie and Lynn Merchant.  In the evening Bill, Marge, Michele and Ellen went to Burrton.  Bill and Marge babysat with Maddie Kirk, while her parents, Nicole and Clark Kirk and Michele and Ellen went shopping in Wichita.  Jason, Michele, Bill and Marge attended Leroy and Marie Reischneider’s 60th anniversary party at LaCrosse on Saturday evening.
 
Hoop and Twila Higgins left Monday for Grand Island, Neb. and spent the night with granddaughter, Michelle.  They left Tuesday for Wheatland, Wyo. to spend time with granddaughter, Haley and Jake.  They then went on to Riverton, Wyo. for Thanksgiving with Larry, Melody, Matt and Bailey, Luke, Chris and Gabe.  They returned home Monday after delivering Michelle back to Grand Island, Neb.
 
Mike, Susan and Shannon Keith and Carolyn Thompson visited family for Thanksgiving at Wichita, Wellington and Hutchinson.
 
 We had a letter from Sally Buster in Albuquerque.  Her son Miles is in the 10th grade and is starting to drive.  He is active in Boy Scouts and is starting work on his Eagle Scout Project.  Hailey is in the 8th grade.  She is president of the middle school Student Council.  She plays the flute in the Albuquerque Junior Symphony – they practice three hours every Saturday..  Mariah is in the 4th grade.  She plays the piano and recently started on the trumpet.  Sally spends most of her time volunteering at the kids’ schools.  She is on the PTA executive board for the elementary school.  She hopes to bring her family for the rodeo next summer if it works out with summer activities.
 
 Guests of Eunice North on Thanksgiving Day were Paul North, Travis, Ava, Brianna, Abby and Natalie North, Daniel, Janice and Dylan Basgall, Danae Basgall and Tylan, Ted, Shawna, Dalton and Clay North, Kayla Schmidtberger and Joshua North.
 
A 20 year length of service award was presented to Bill and Paula Greenway of McCracken by Jesse Lee of the National Weather Service in recognition of 20 years of continuous and dedicated service in the collection of daily temperature and precipitation.
 
Ted and Kathy Bannister, Bison, are expecting the arrival of two new daughters soon.  They along with their 13 years old daughter Hannah, are adding a 9 year old Tigist and 6 year old Mulu to their family.  The two sisters are living in an orphanage in Ethiopia.  The Bannisters hope to have the sisters by January.
 
The 2007 Rush County Relay for Life was ranked fourth in the State of Kansas for per capita fund raising.  The first annual Relay for Life raised more that $35,000, which equaled $9.52 for every resident in the County.  The 2008 Relay committee is all ready busy planning its second event, which will be held June 27.

McCracken History Notes
November 1887
The first mail west over the Missouri Pacific went over the road Monday morning.  J. A. Kline returned from the front Wednesday and will perhaps remain here permanently.  Now that the D. M. & A. has been completed to Pueblo, we will expect to see a number of boys back again.
 
November 1907
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Elias last Friday night, a ten pound boy. (John)
 
Mr. James Nichol was married to Miss Mary Rodeman at Olathe, Kansas.
 
November 1937
A box supper will be held December 3 at the Rourke school 14 miles northwest of McCracken.  Teachers are Irene Squires and Ruth Durand.
 
The cast for the senior play “Glass Dishes” has been selected.   They are Julia Davenport, Violet Crawford, Ruby Littler, Basil Davenport, Drewie McGaughey, George Doerr, Ben McCaskey, Lucille Elmore, George Myers.  Property committee members are Marjorie Norlin, Lillian Murphy, Malcolm Brown, Paul Sweeney, Paul Grate and Edward Thompson.
 
November 1947
Damage High as Blizzard Numbs Area. . .There were heavy losses of livestock and hazardous highway conditions which caused four car wrecks.  A 1946 DeSoto owned by George Meyer of the Meyer Hardware was struck broadside while it was parked in front of the Meyer store.
 
During the blizzard Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Rein, who live on a farm nine miles northwest of McCracken, decided that they needed to get Mrs. Rein to the hospital.  He bundled her up  and put her on a farm tractor.  It took them two hours to reach McCracken.  Mrs. Rein gave birth to a 7-l/2 pound daughter at the home of Mrs. Rein’s sister, Mrs. Joe Gaschler.  The little girl, the Rein’s fourth child, was named Madeline Jane.
 
November 1957
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Graf and family moved the first of the week to Denver where they will make their home.
 
A/lc John Stull returned home by plane Sunday from Germany.  This was his first trip home for two and one-half years.
 
November 1967
Ruthetta Irvin has been chosen to represent this area as a participant in the Specialist Training session at Greeley, Colorado.
 
Blanche Swisher was hostess of the What Knot Club on Tuesday.  Members attending were Gladys Fear, Hattie Albright, Ann Foster, Merle Hardwick, Alverta Seelye, Sophia Doerr and Lottie Schutte.  The ladies spent the day quilting.
 
November 1977
McCracken’s water supply has an unusual amount of fluoride.  The new well dug by the Rush County Rural Water District No. 1 has 2.8 parts per million.  The maximum acceptable is 1.8 parts per million.
 
The American Agriculture Movement held a rally in Hays on Sunday.  Strike leaders had more than 950 tractors, truck and farm implements in the parade.

Rainbow trout has been stocked in Cedar Bluff Dam.
 
The McCracken gift shop is open for Christmas shopping at the Assembly of God Parsonage.  A full line of Indian jewelry, rugs and pottery are available.  Julia and Francis Zeller operate the shop.

Congratulations to Stacy and Terry Spenst on the birth of a son born November 9, 1997.  He has been given the name Nathan Wayne.  Maternal grandparents are Juanita and Sanford Foreman, Woodward, Okla.
