One of the neatest cabins we know is at the old Gaylord Ranch. It is located in a large grove north of town. B.H. Yawger said his father planted the grove many years ago. The Anderson boys had the ranch leased until the past year when there was too much work for them and they gave it up. They constructed the cabin of the green granite rock which abounds the place. It is a work of art. They used slips to clean out the creek and had a boat. Mr. Barry of Ellis, the late owner had the place for a summer resort. Both he and his wife have died. They left Miss Gaylord, a high school girl the ranch.

One of the most severe November blizzards ever experienced in Kansas Thursday caused thousands of dollars in property damage in Rush County. Rein sustained cuts about the head and face and was brought to the hospital in LaCrosse for treatment. Geo. Meyers car, a 1946 DeSoto was stuck broadside while it was parked in front of the Meyer store. Ownership of the other car was not established.
There were four college students of Manhattan stranded at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lyda. They were on the way home to Dighton, Syracuse and Garden City.
On a personal note, my family was caught in the storm at Dighton. We were enroute to Grinnell for the wedding of my Aunt Dorothy Lubbers to Willard Ikenberry. The snow began at Beeler and it was dangerous all the way into Dighton with trucks jackknifing and cars off the road. We had rented a car. The day was beautiful when we started from Great Bend and we didnt take coats! We planned to return the same day. My one brother was two and my other brother was one month. We got to Dighton and found lodging at the Dighton Hotel. It would be days before we could go home. There was no electricity. We bought candles and a traveling salesman provided us with coats. They finally cleared one lane of Highway 96 and let us head east in a caravan. It was like we were driving in a tunnel with the snow way above the cars. The wedding did not happen for a week. Just the bride and groom and attendants were able to attend. The groom and his best man had started out for Grinnell from Quinter on the day of the wedding and got stuck in a snow drift. They were finally rescued. Those staying at my grandmothers house with the bride had plenty to eat as they had been cooking for the wedding dinner. We were all very lucky to have found shelter. Our thanks to the people of Dighton. Carolyn Dennis Thompson and her family Colonel and Virginia Dennis, David and Danny.
