We had a nice letter from Margaret Temple Moody of Salem, Oregon.  She was a student of Ruth Akers Yawger in the first grade at Hampton.  She still subscribes to the Rush County News to get all the news from McCracken and the county.
 
The Tribute to Our Veterans, which was held on Wednesday evening, was well received.  Those helping were William Zeller, Diz Washaliski and Babe Gilbert from the West-Burch American Legion Post 59 who did the 13 folds of the flag, the McCracken United Methodist Church English Handbell Choir, William Greenway, reading narrator, Paula Greenway, piano, Mike Stephens, LaCrosse, with his World War 11 memorabilia; Lorraine Ryan, prayer.  All the veterans and military wives were asked to tell of their service.  There was a display in the refreshment room of pictures, commendations and medals.  One veteran featured was of Walton Gilbert, uncle of Babe Gilbert, who died as a result of the Bataan Death March .  Some contributing to the display were Tony Harp, (his brother, Bill Harp died in Viet Nam); and Robert Tilford who was with the 101st Airborne.
 
An insert in the Hays Daily News on Friday of Veterans featured the following with McCracken connections, James K. Wierman, Francis H. Wierman, Noel A. Lipton, and Robert Tilford,
 
Those actively serving from McCracken are Shane Anderson and Shannon McKinney, Army and Casey Brown, Navy.
 
Those attending the Ellsworth High school Production "Grease" on Friday evening were Jamie Dennis, Mackenzie Muth, Lola Rixon, Shirley Higgins, Lorraine Ryan, Shannon Keith and Carolyn Thompson.  Lorraine stayed at the Ira A. Lloyd Bed and Breakfast -- ask her about it!!!!
 
Francis and Julia Zeller and John and Melanie Zeller went to Hays Friday for the play at Malloy Hall.  It was "Lying in State"
 
The bridge is open north of McCracken over Big Timber Creek.  It should handle a major flood.
 
Francis and Roberta Wierman and James K. Wierman attended the Veterans Memorial Program at Ness City on Saturday.
 
We are truly blessed to have the McCracken United Methodist Bell Choir.  They had a wonderful program on Sunday afternoon to celebrate their 20th anniversary.
 
 Kenneth E. Miller, 89, died November 4, 2006 at LaCrosse.  He married Nadine Fell on March 19, 1939.  They were married for 67 years.  Kenneth was gentleman and we always enjoyed seeing him and Nadine.  They were a devoted couple.  They lived for many years northeast of McCracken and he continued to farm after he moved to LaCrosse.  He was extremely proud of his family.
 
 Brad Lovitt, Phoenix and Scott Faiman, Columbia, MO were weekend guests of Bill and Sharon Lovitt in Ransom.
 
Randy Breuck, Constantine, MI was a four day guest of Joe and Kay Slemp.  Randy and Joe were classmates in Michigan.  Randy told us he was born in Colon, MI, the Magic Capital of the World!!
 
Congratulations to Rich Higgins and Mary Lou Perez on their marriage Friday, November 10, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lakin.  Reception and dance followed the ceremony.
 
Memorials have been given to the McCracken Library in memory of LuAnne Scheideman Mathias from her sister Ken and Karen Scheideman Weissenfluh, from Lonnie and Tammy Irvin and John and Kayla Tacha.
 
Dan Mills celebrated a late birthday on Sunday afternoon at his home in Gorham.  Family members present to enjoy the ice cream and cake included Marilyn, Brandon, Ryan and Addie Mills.
 
Addie Mills was a Sunday evening visitor of Joan and Jack Klee in Hays.  They celebrated Joan’s birthday with pizza, cake and ice cream.
 
McCracken History Notes
November 1906
 
The LaCrosse high school football team played the McCracken high school team here last Friday afternoon.  The game was played in the rain and was quite warmly contested, but resulted in favor of the McCracken lads 10-0.
 
November 1936
H. W. Graber, M. D. of Chicago, a graduate of Northwestern Medical School will locate here this week.  He and his family will live in the Ryan apartments.
 
November 1946
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gaschler, Saturday, November 9, in the hospital in Ransom.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Basil Temple announce the engagement of the daughter, Mildred Glee, to Mr. Willard E. Mills, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Mills of McCracken.
 
Fay and Ted Jennings, Leonard Dugan and Harold Walker are in Wichita this week attending the Scottish Rite Consistory where Ted and Leonard are in the class taking the 32nd degree.

Mr. and Mrs. Alex Rein and family moved the first of the week into the house formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Leon Davenport.

MHS senior class will present the play "It's great to be Crazy".
 
Chris Jones was entertained with a party honoring him on his 3rd birthday.  Guests were Chad Herdman, Kathy and Tony Rues and Kelly Gumm.
 
November 1976
Volleyball team members are Lynette Stremel, Laura and Janet Unrein, Kim McCormick, Tammy Higgins, Patty Swartz, Norma Elmore, Lisa Schuckman, Kerri Derr, Ellen Davis, Diane McFarren and Cheryl Foreman.  Coach is Sue Knoebber.  The team had wins over Hanston, Victoria and twice over Utica.
 
November 1986
The Kansas Court of Appeals has ordered a lower court to direct nine owners of outdoor privies in Liebenthal to abandon and fill in the outhouses as required by city ordinance.
 
The New Era Club met at the Davis Café.  Machree Jones showed part of the Centennial quilt that is being made for next year's celebration and also how to make a rag wreath.  (The Centennial quilt is on display at the Jail/Museum loaned by Grace Thompson who won it in the raffle).
 
November 1996
Marty Mills won 4th place at LaCrosse in a Stock Car race last weekend.
 
Nineteen hunters and 7 dogs were at Ron and Ruth Crawshaw's over the weekend.
 
Jack and Verlene Wilson traveled to Sheldon, Iowa, October 18, for the first birthday of their granddaughter, Anna Mae.  DeAnna Berggquist and Dana Strickland were also guests.
