Hampton Items by Lillian Murphy Chadwick:

Andrew Murphy and his wife Addie were my grandparents. They lived near McPherson where Horace, Essie, Elmer and Frank were born. Then they moved to Illinois. - returning by covered wagon to Hampton, Kansas. Arch was three years old and Emma two months. They lived on a farm outside Hampton for several years. The children attended the Hampton school. Grandpa Murphy was a farmer and worked in masonry. He helped build stone buildings in and around the vicinity - Hampton, McCracken, Liebenthal - several churches, banks and business houses. When Archie was six years old he remembered a flood - The Big Timber Creek overflowed, flooding the low lands. Grandpa Murphy's farm was one and when Grandma Murphy found a water moccasin in the kitchen she insisted they move. They did to the outskirts of McCracken then on to the old Murphy farm north of McCracken on the Rush and Ellis county line where Grandpa Murphy farmed.

Mike Karlin was a Saturday overnight and Sunday visitor of Addie Mills.  They also visited with Andy Hansen on Saturday.  They enjoyed lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken on Sunday before meeting Mike’s parents.

Bobby and Eileen Mills were Sunday overnight guests of his parents, Marty and Tina Mills.  They were enroute to their new home at Federal Way, Washington near Seattle from their former home in Clearwater, Florida.  Addie Mills joined them for lunch on Monday.  They also stopped by Bob and Della Miller’s home in Brookville and Sunday afternoon.

Friday October 24th, John and Melanie Zeller drove to Salina to eat at Martinelli’s and go to the Stiefel Theater to see the group Heart perform. The food was excellent and so was the show, the Wilson sisters can still rock and roll! After the show they motored to Manhattan to stay with Richard and Nancy Baker. There they enjoyed Nancy’s Birthday/K-State Party on Saturday! They had a wonderful time visiting with Nancy, Richard, and their family, Cathy Casey and others. The next morning they headed to Salina to shop then onward Hays to visit with Kiel and Sarah Emerson. They had a nice weekend and were glad to be home.

Francis Wierman will celebrate his 92nd birthday November 8, 2014. He would appreciate your cards. Please send to 615 Locust Street #106, LaCrosse, KS 67548.

Austin, Jeannie Elias, Mark & Linda and Brett and Holly had some ‘cool’ Halloween lights.

Don’t forget the tribute to veterans to be held Sunday, November 9 at 11:00 at the United Methodist Church.

Shirley, Tammy & Chuck attended the 6A volleyball tournament in Topeka Friday morning. The Hutch girls lost all the matches. We saw some great players. Girls were over 6’ with legs longer than telephone poles.

We have some Kansas Sampler books if you are interested. They are $25 but it would be to your advantage to pick them up, costs $12.00 to mail. Both Carolyn and Shirley have the books.
