Lynn Kochenower attended the 99th birthday celebration for Kathryn Kochenower in southeast Kansas. Kathryn is Lynn's grandmother. She lives by herself, drives and is extremely active.
Gerald and Edna Walker, Corning, Iowa, have renewed their membership in the Jail/Museum.
Nicole Fear and Jennifer Acker won the two $25.00 Mary Kay Gift Certificates that Arlene Gilbert gave away at the McCracken Fall Fest.
Larry and Melody Higgins, Riverton, Wyoming, spent Sunday through Wednesday with Wilfrid and Twila Higgins. Cody Kinnier was a supper guest Wedensday. Luke Higgins arrived Saturday evening and stayed until Tuesday.
Addie Mills was a Wednesday overnight guest of Rev. and Mrs. Bob Brown in Holton. On Thursday Mrs. Brown and Addie visited with Chris Zimmerman. Enroute home Addie was a Friday luncheon guest of Cellie Klee in Topeka.

1. 1912. This was done by Eva Rider who was the first woman bailiff in the United States. It was the result of the equal suffrage passing in the 1912 election making Kansas women qualified to serve on a jury.
2. Three couples were married in 1830 by a Catholic priest along the Marmaton River in Bourbon County. They were Osage Indian and French.
3. Sara and Charles Robinson, the first governor of Kansas.
4. Lorraine "Lizzie" Wooster was the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Kansas. She established compulsory school attendance.
5. Also known as the gay pride flag, it was created and sewed by Chanute native, Gilbert Baker. He served in the in the U. S. Army from 1970-1972 and was honorably discharged. The flag was first flown on June 25, 1978 at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade.
The bench outside in front of the post office is a great addition. It was made by Eric Scriven.
We heard from our Canada friends who were here in September, they are having lots of snow which they say is way too early. There was all ready a foot of snow on their patio table and it was still snowing very hard. They said the snow will be there the rest of the year.
Zach Higgins, Brady Demel and Danton Reidel were guests of Joe Jennings in Kansas City this weekend. They all attended the Chiefs-Raiders football game on Sunday.
We read in the Hutchinson News about Stafford having a Pelican Pete Pig Out to bring history to life this weekend. A program will be held after the dinner with country western performers Brent and Chris Ronen. Brent was a former member of the Foster Brothers Band way back when!
He and his wife are at home on stages in Nashville and Branson.

August 1972
McCracken residents have recently learned that their town will be an important setting for a new movie about the American Depression to be filmed by Paramount Pictures. The movie will be based on the book Addie Pray and will star Ryan ONeal and his daughter, Tatum. (The book Tatum ONeal, a paper life) written by Tatum tells about the movie Paper Moon.
Rev. Eugene Kenny is the new pastor at St. Marys Church.
Daryl North has returned home after completing two weeks training at Camp Guernsey, Wyoming with the National Guard.

John and Janice Stull and sons, Craig and Mike, have moved from Denver to a farm north and east of town formerly owned by Fay Jennings.
