A community fund raiser for the Golf Club and American Legion will be held on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November10. There will be breakfast and supper served each day. Come and support these organizations.

Shannon McKinney had successful surgery to remove his cancerous kidney. He will be taking chemo. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers and check on Facebook and Carebridge to follow his progress

Friday guest of Francis and Roberta Wierman was Clyde Woolfolk from Hutchinson. Clyde and Francis served together in the military. They met when they had their physicals then were on the frontline together during the war in Germany. Clyde was originally from Pratt.

Francis and Robert Wierman attended the Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass on October 20th at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. The Most Rev. John B. Brungardt was the mass celebrant. There was a couple there who had been married 72 years. The husband was 100 years old. Francis and Roberta had their picture taken with the Bishop. The Bishop circulated and found each couple so he could visit with them and get acquainted.

Dave and Carolyn Davenport were week-end guests of Travis, Tina, Katie, and Tanner Elias, Colby. They attended the Colby/Clay Center game on Friday evening where Tanner is on the Colby football team and Katie is on the dance team which performed during halftime.

On Sunday afternoon they were visitors of Ty, Tina, and Quintin Elias.
 
Last week-end Carolyn Davenport and eleven other Red Hatters attended the Red Hat Convention in Wichita.

All you ‘ghosts & goblins’ don’t forget the spook parade, Thursday, October 31 beginning at 5:00 p.m. Meet in front of the library and be ready for the parade. Weather permitting hot dogs etc. will be at the City Park.

Don’t forget to attend the Fall Fest held in the McCracken grade school building, Saturday, November 2 beginning at noon. There is something for everyone, youngsters and oldsters alike!!! Appreciation to all the vendors & those that gave gifts and crafts to make this Fall Fest a success.

The Hutchinson Salthawks volleyteam was beaten Saturday by Wichita Northwest. Teams entered in the 6A sub-state tournament held in Hutchinson were Dodge City, Garden City, Hutchinson, Wichita Northwest, Campus, Maize, Wichita South, and Wichita North. Wichita Northwest and Maize were the winners and will be playing in Topeka this weekend.

A 60th birthday celebration was held for Johnny Mac Showalter Saturday at The Hill in Timken Saturday evening. Those attending were Diana McFarren, Arky & Diana McNair, Charlotte Ochs, Richard Showalter, Rob & Helena McGaughey, Austin McGaughey, Jason & Jessica Showalter & family, Amanda Showalter & family, Terry & Helen Showalter.

Audra Hurd, daughter of Jeff and Kathy Lovitt Hurd, is a 5’11” eleventh grade middle blocker on the volleyball team at Del Norte High School in San Diego, California. Del Norte has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students. Last year the volleyball team was CIF Championship runner up and went to Southern California State Semifinals, D111. They placed 5th out of 32 teams at the California Challenge tournament the middle of October this year. Audra is the granddaughter of Bill and Sharon Lovitt, Ransom. She had some ‘coaching’ from her aunt Teresa Lovitt this summer!!!...

Chuck Higgins has returned home after being in the Rapid City, South Dakota area for almost a month doing insurance adjusting. He said the cattle loss was unbelievable. Many ranchers lost their entire herd. Sad.

A birthday get together was held for Mitchell Jacobs at The Hill in Timken Saturday evening. Those attending were Pris Jacobs, Sandra Jacobs, Chad and Crystal Foust and boys. I think Mitchell turned 29.

History Notes October 1993

Peggy Janke had a letter to the Editor in the Rush County News about the McCracken – Liebenthal road and the McCracken – Alexander road. She is going to mount a campaign for an appeal to the Kansas State Historical Society and State Department of Transportation to reopen the Fort Hays to Fort Dodge Trail. (Hasn’t changed much).
Alvin Schwartzkopf, 62, Ness City, died October 11. He was born September 5, 1931 in LaCrosse to William and Bertha Filbert Schwartzkopf.
Father Eugene Kenny, LaCrosse, celebrated his 40th anniversary in the priesthood with a special mass and dinner.
Lucy Unrein, Hays, has been released from St. Francis Hospital in Wichita following heart surgery.
Drewie McGaughey returned home from Wichita this week where she spent one week attending a diabetic clinic. Joy Hunter accompanied her as a support person.
Congratulations to Craig and Julie Stull on the birth of their daughter, Katelynn Janice, October 11, 1993.
Jim and Carolyn Sekavec, Robert and Mary Higgins are vacationing in Las Vegas this week.
Joy Hunter, Kyra Horesky and Shirley Higgins attended the volleyball triangular meet at Stafford on Tuesday. Chuck Higgins is coach for the Fairfield High School girls volley ball team, Jerry Higgins was an official.
Congratulations to Don and Edna Johnson on the birth of a son, Andrew Jay Johnson.
Terry Showalter is moving into the Grace Thompson house and Johnny Mac Showalter is moving in the Teresa Higgins house.
