The Hutchinson News had a flyer inserted in Saturday’s paper which included an article entitled ‘Remembering the Runners-Up’.  When the winner of the US presidential election moves into the White House in January, the loser will get a place of honor in the They Also Ran Gallery in Norton, Ks.  There are 58 unsuccessful presidential candidates enshrined in the one-room photo gallery inside The First State Bank. William Rouse, the bank’s former president, created the gallery in 1965.  His daughter, Ann Hazlett of Norton said “Dad was interested in history and education and read that Horace Greeley had stopped in town and stayed overnight at the stage coach stop in Norton”.  Rouse decided that a museum devoted to presidential also-rans like Greeley could be a boost for his town.
