Our sympathy to the family of Ivan Dale Janke, 56, who died October 20, 2012 at his home north of McCracken. He was born January 20, 1956 to Alvin and Ruth (Moore) Janke. On October 7, 1978 he married Peggy Stude. She survives. Other survivors includes sons, Landon and Jordan, both of McCracken; a daughter, Megan Janke, Buhler and sister, Margarent Allen, Arkansas. Ivan was a 1974 graduate of McCracken High School. He was a farmer-rancher. He served as a volunteer fireman. He followed in his Dad's footsteps with the Community Club who distributed the Christmas candy to the youth each year. Just last week he was out mowing around the Barnard Bell. He helped put up the flag there on Memorial Day. Burial was in McCracken City Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the McCracken Volunteer Fire Department. Our hearts are heavy. He was such a friendly young man.

What about that dust storm? Brings back unpleasant memories.
Layne and Kerri Morgan rode the Amtrak from Hutchinson to Chicago last week. They arrived at Union Station and caught the Metro to Joliet, ILL then a cab to their motel only to have no reservations for that night and realized our train ticket home was a day late. We quickly changed both reservations and hit the casino only to be a dollar short. We did visit Navy Pier and went on an architectural water tour of how Chicago was built and rode the worlds largest ferris wheel. We were to do the Magnificent Mile but due to the rain and snow we did not. After checking out of our motel, visiting the casino one last time, catching a cab to the metro, then a cab to union station to catch Amtrak back home, we decided it was great living in rural America!!! Should have known there would a few glitches when the email including our train tickets was deleted.
