William and Lucy Herrman were in McCracken on Saturday afternoon enjoying the scarecrows on display.

Danielle Monique Gore, 31, along with her unborn daughter, Zavery died October 2, 2015, due to an accident in their home in Stockton. She was born July 17, 1984. She is survived by sons, Zeven, Zayne and Zayden. Her grandmother is Joyce Thompson of Goddard, formerly of McCracken.

Congratulations to Chris Irvin on being recognized as top salesman for Monsanto Company. He was the 27th top sales rep in the nation and placed in the top 70 in the world. He and his wife Jana accepted the award in Maui, Hawaii. Chris received his 'expertise' in sales by being top candy bar and magazine salesman in McCracken Middle School.

Jerry attended the KU-Texas Tech football game in Lawrence Saturday afternoon, it was father’s day. His daughter Jenna is a student and he was a guest of Cameron and Courtney.

Les & Rose Diehl, Ron and Cathy Casey and Mary Dunne were McCracken weekend visitors in McCracken. Rose is staying until after Fall Fest, Ron, Cathy & Les left Sunday evening, Mary left Monday afternoon.

John and Tammy were in Kansas City this weekend and attended the Midwest Energy Rodeo. They visited with Cameron and Courtney.

The Colby Eagles defeated Concordia in football Friday night, 42-6. Tanner Elias is a member the Eagles football team. Dennis & Jeannie Elias, Katie Elias, Travis & Tina Elias, David & Carolyn Davenport were in attendance.

We have 20 plus scare crows and Halloween decorations in the McCracken yards. You need to drive around and look. All of them are very creative. Sunday, the wind blew from the south and played ‘havoc’ with some of the ones facing south. We appreciate everyone for their ideas and hard work, for the scarecrows and Halloween decorations. Also appreciate you help in advance for making the Fall Fest a success...

The hamburger feed Saturday evening at the American Legion was well attended and mighty tasty.

History Notes

1969 Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Ryan returned Friday from Miami where they attended Orange Bowl events during New Year’s week. Enrollment at MHS is 78 and grade school 103. Kindergarten class members are: Kevin Rourke, Kerri Seltman, Jeff McCormick, Wade Hinman, Kristi Hallett, Troy Zinn, Shelly Jackson, Grinda Stour, Jeff Liggett, Laura Casey, Steven Crowell, Charles Karst, Bradley Wright, Randy Conrad and Marla Schlegel. Teacher: Pat Bott. First graders: Billy & Loretta Augustine, Tamera Higgins, Laura Unrein, Dale Elias, Norma Elmore, Catherine Rues and Kathleen Moran. Jay Pfeiffer suffered minor injuries from tractor burns. Lucy Unrein is neighborhood chairman for Girl Scouts. Homecoming will be held Friday. Candidates for queen are Patricia Foos, Kathy Huddleston & Debra Schuckman. Escorts will be Donnie Schuckman, Doug Whitis and Lance Morgan. Flower girl is Tammy Higgins and crown bearer is Dale Elias. Kenny Mills recently returned from Vietnam. Doug Whitis was accidently shot in his left arm while trying to remove a bullet lodged in an antique 22 rifle. Team members for the Colts A & B teams are Danny McFarren, David Wetzel; John Rourke, Lonnie Irvin, Daryl Casey, Roger Legleiter, Danny Conner, Randy Taylor, Johnny Elmore, Ray Wierman, David Derr, Ivan Janke, Jerald Grumbein, Don Johnston, John Irvinand Tom Moran. The Farmers Coop has purchased the K-T Oil Company. The Nekoma State Bank slo- pitch softball team place 1st in the Hays tournament with a 15-13 win over A&A Coors. Vic Higgins and Larry Morgan are members of the team with Chuck & Jerry as bat boys. Bill Harper, manager of the Rush County Grain, reports that harvest is 75% cut, test weight 66 lb, 35-40 bushels. Mrs. John walker moved here from Hartman, Colorado into the home she purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Pete Rixon. Brownell American Legion under Coach Bill Lovitt placed 2nd in the Legion tournament at Great Bend. McCracken players are Lance Morgan, David Davenport, Rich Higgins, Tom Tomlinson, Doug Whitis & Don Irvin. Patricia Petz has been named Rush County Wheat Queen. Lucy Vogle has closed the cleaning shop and will be employed at the Davis Café. Fred Taylor, present owner of Fred’s IGA, is the new owner of the former Norlin’s store. Mr. and Mrs. Celestin Stremel and family have moved into the Anna Scheideman property which they purchased.
