Dean and Carolyn Linsey, Silver Lake, were last week end guests of Russ and Laura Linsey.
 
Mary Higgins, Lenexa and Ellen Eaton, Overland Park, were having breakfast
at First Watch in Overland Park Wednesday morning and seated in the booth
next to them was none other than Ms. Marion Ross and her husband Mr. Paul
Michael.  Marion and Paul are starring in the play "Over the River" at the
New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park.  Ellen says she's seen the play
already and it's very cute.

Memorials have been given to the McCracken Jail Museum in memory of Carl Bible from Carol Bible Decurgez and June Bible Bell; in memory of Joe Jennings from Carolyn Thompson.
 
The Hoisington high school volleyball team placed 3rd in the Hillsboro Invitational Tournament Saturday.  In pool play they defeated Chapman 27-25, 25-13; Herrington 25-17, 25-12; Minneapolis defeated Hoisington 25-19, 25-17.  Semi finals: Hillsboro defeated Hoisington 25-23, 25-15.  Third: Hoisington defeated Minneapolis 23-25, 25-21, 25-21.  Hillsboro defeated Conway Springs for 1st.

Saturday night guests of Lorraine Ryan were June Bell, Carol Decurgez and Ann Birney ‘Amelia Earhart’.
 
Sonny and Betty Dykes and their grandson, Rashad, were last weekend visitors in McCracken.
 
Dennis Elias and Marge Elias attended the football game at Colby Saturday afternoon. Tanner Elias, 3rd grader, son of Travis and Tina is a member of the team.
 
Russ and Laura Linsey and Frances Casey went to Montezuma last week end where they helped celebrate Trinity’s 2nd birthday.  She is the daughter of Tony and Trina Casey Lutters and granddaughter of Darrell and Barbara Casey.
 
Friday night the Hoisington High School football team won over TMP of Hays 58-26 in Hays.  The score at the half was 45-0 in favor of Hoisington.  The junior varsity played the second half against the Monarchs.  Hoisington will play Scott City Friday night at home.  Both teams are undefeated with records of 7-0.
 
Frances Casey and Rosie Schadel spent Thursday afternoon in Ness City visiting with Lavon Helms.
 
Priscilla Jacobs and Sandra Jacobs spent Sunday in Ellsworth visiting with Eunice Oller Harding and Pete and Lola Rixon.
 
The annual McCracken Library spook parade will be Saturday, October 28 beginning at 4:00 in front of the library.  They will walk to the senior center for hot dogs, hot chocolate etc.  All ages are welcome.
 
The city of McCracken has accepted the bid for the swimming pool to Clearwater Pools and Spa from Hays.  They have all ready been working at the pool. 
 
Bryan and Andrea Ring of Kansas City, Missouri were weekend guests of Francis and Julia Zeller. 
 
Graveside services were held on Monday afternoon for Cecil J. Phillips, 91, at McCracken City Cemetery.  He died October 11, 2006, at Scott City.  He was a 1933 graduate of McCracken High School.  Whenever we had an alumni gathering, dinner or event, Cecil was always the first one here.  It is with regret that he wasn't well enough to be in the rodeo/alumni parade in July.  On August 13, 1946, he married Mabel A. Ree in Pueblo, Colo.  She died June 7, 1998.  He was a sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Forces during World War 11.  Survivors are two sons, Duane and George, and a daughter Janice Heili, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

June Fletcher Bible Bell, McPherson and her daughter Carol Faye Decurgez, Boise, Idaho, were in town over the weekend.  They took in the Amelia Earhart reenactment, visited the cemetery, attended church and ate at the café before returning home. 
 
A large crowd enjoyed the presentation by Ann Birney about Amelia Earhart at the City Building on Saturday evening.  The Library Board is grateful to the City for allowing them to use the building free of charge.  Everyone enjoyed the new chairs donated by Jametta Basgall from 4-Corners.  Paulette Harp decorated four large pumpkins, which were given away in a drawing to Tomi Rues, Mason Davison, Dallas Dewitt and Phyllis Conrad. 
 
We enjoyed seeing Tony and Judy Reynolds, LaCrosse, in town on Saturday evening
 
Lesley Heidrick and Aaron McGaughey are to be married on Saturday, October 21 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McCracken.  Our congratulations.
 
Andy Zimmerman is recovering from a tractor accident at work for a landscaping company on Wednesday.  It will take about six weeks for his liver to heal.  He was in ICU for several days.  He had a punctured lung and shoulder injuries.  His parents are Lee and Donna (Rogers) Hansen and his grandmother is Addie Mills.
 
We received the following message from Bernice Ende, Lone Rider, this week, dated October 9, 2006. "Wow that McCracken stop sure was quick -- Many thanks for your help.  I feel like we blew in and danced out.  Jetmore, KS - Fairgrounds - Rain 2 days - glad to be under cover w/food and water for all.  2 day rest as we had put in a 5 day stretch - Plainville to Jetmore.  Now we look at Hugoton - Postal Stop - so enjoyed meeting the 'McCracken Girls'".  The message was sent on the back of a picture of her horse, Honor.
 
Some of those attending the Taste of Home presentation in Hays at Beach-Schmidt on Thursday evening were Billie North, Signe Barnes, Joyce Hunter, Helena and Austin McGaughey, Blaine Oborny and his grandparents, Shirley Higgins and Carolyn Thompson.  Joyce Hunter won a bag of groceries from Dillons.
 
Other attending the Ray Charles tribute at Beach-Schmidt last week were John and Sharon Irvin and Greg and Jolene Whitehair of Hays.
 
McCracken History Notes
October 1906
 
Owen Floyd McKittrick, Ora Ware, John Lovitt and D. D. Hunt were at LaCrosse to witness the game of foot ball between Great Bend and LaCrosse on Wednesday and of course were interested spectators.  (LaCrosse won by a score of 10 to 0).
 
Heavy snow storms prevailed in Colorado Monday interfering with the railroad.  Two feet or more of snow fell at Pueblo and Denver.
 
October 1936
'M' Club was organized on Monday at the high school.  To be eligible one must first letter in high school athletics.  Officers elected were Malcolm Showalter, Lester McGaughey, Merril Roughton and George Doerr.  Sports writers will be Lyle Swisher, Ben McCaskey and Willard Mills.
 
October 1946
Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Yawger and Mrs. Edith Chenoweth attended the Ryan land sale at WaKeeney Tuesday.
 
 Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Muller on the birth of twin boys at Hadley Memorial hospital in Hays.  Mrs. Muller is the former Fay Elmore.
 
October 1956
Rev. Howard West, who has been pastor of the Methodist church for the past two years, has been assigned to the pastorate at Hill City.  Rev. Ray Keller is the new minister in McCracken.
 
Alvin and Harry Janke and Donald Davis were at Red Cloud, Nebraska on Monday.
 
October 1966
Albert Norlin received severe injuries to his right hand when his hand was caught in the meat tenderizer at the Norlins store.
 
October 1976
McCracken Mustangs suffered defeat at the hands of the Bogue Bluejays.  The Jays are ranked 3 in eight-man by the Topeka Daily Capital.  Phil Switzer, Dan Irby and Arnold Carter each scored two touchdowns.
 
Lamba Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met October 11 at the home of Carol Rixon.  Janet Herdman was co-hostess.
 
October 1986
County milo harvest slowed by rain.  Don Greenway, manager of the Rush County Elevator said that the harvest in his area was only getting started.  So far the moisture content has been anywhere from 13 to 24 with the test weight running 55-61 lbs.
 
The McCracken Leopard Cubs beat the Otis-Bison Cougar Cubs 28-6.
 
October 1996
McCracken American Legion Post 59 was the winner of the State American Legion Slow-Pitch Tournament held in Hays.  Richard Showalter is manager of the team.
 
The tank battery 4 miles north and 3 miles west of McCracken was struck by lightning during Monday morning's storm.  Units from the area responded to the fire where they had to use foam to put out the burning oil.
 
Cindy North, daughter of Paul North, was crowned homecoming queen at Victoria High School.
