Memorials have been given to the McCracken Public Library in memory of Kenny Mills and Beulah North Irvin from Diana Hart, Charles G. (Gary) Walker, Dennis Walker and Dixie Williams.
 
Jerilyn, Tayler and Colby Stull were overnight guests of Sharon Nottingham and Courtney in Lawrence, Friday evening. They all attended the Fun Walk at Courtney's school and then went and watched Matthew Stull run the 5K at Rim Rock Cross Country Meet Saturday.  Also attending the meet were John and Janice Stull.  It was nice to visit with Craig, Julie and Katelynn Stull while there, and it was beautiful weather for the meet.
 
W.H. ‘Skip’ and Muriel Washaliski, Jacksonville, Florida arrived Friday for a visit with his brother, Diz and Wilma Washaliski and other relatives and friends.
 
Teresa Lovitt, freshman volleyball coach at Dodge City, took first place at an invitational tournament held in Hays on Saturday.  Their record is 31-0.
 
 Guests of Fred and Mary Anne Taylor for the weekend were Sandy Biesner, Grace and Taylor, Freddie Taylor, Andrew and Lucas.  Saturday Andrew played football at Felten Middle School in Hays.  Kim and Anna were in Wichita at the baptism for the baby of Jeremy and Lisa Foos.
 
Chuck Higgins and Zach and Tanner Higgins attended the K-State football game in Manhattan on Saturday. 
 
Those attending the Encore 25th anniversary season debut, "Can't Stop Loving You", a tribute to Ray Charles, on Saturday evening at Beach-Schmidt Performing Arts Center were Francis and Julia Zeller, John and Janice Stull, Babe and Arlene Gilbert, Marlene and Bob Funk, Don and Sharon Urban, Pat Derr, Joann Micheli, Carol Weber, Shirley Higgins, Carolyn Thompson, Sharon Lovitt, Lorraine Ryan, Betty Schwartzkof, Ruthetta Hansen, Carol Reynolds, Peggy Kay, Maureen Georg, Rosa Wilson, Sandy Tammen, Lila Hallett, Virginia Keener.  Two busloads enjoyed the trip to Hays on the Rush County Transportation buses, driven by Bill Hylton and Helena McGaughey.
 
Pat Derr, Twila Higgins, Sonja Conner, Lila Hallett, Jean Schutte and Francis and Julia Zeller attended the production, Kiss Me Kate, at Malloy Hall at Fort Hays on Sunday.
 
Congratulations to Katherine Sloan and Galen Waggoner on their marriage on October 7, 2006 in WaKeeney.
 
REMINDER:  The Amelia Earhart re-enactor, Ann Birney of Admire, Kansas, will be in McCracken on Saturday night, October 14, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at the McCracken Community Building.  Admission is free -- door prizes -- painted pumpkins.  The Friends of the Library will take free will offerings for future events.
 
A Navy Honor Guard conducted services for Joe Jennings at the graveside on Saturday morning.

October 1906
Mr. William Wierman raised over 100 bushels of fine potatoes this year.
 
Mr. Clarence Peer was married to Miss Maud Hanel at the home of the bride Wednesday evening.  A splendid infare dinner was given to the young couple yesterday at the home of Mr. P. H. Peer.
 
October 1936
Alvina Bieker and William Wierman, Jr. were married at St. Mary's on Wednesday evening.
 
Avery Norlin is teaching school at K.S.C. in Manhattan.
 
October 1946
Rainfall amounting to 2.39 inches fell here over the weekend making the roads almost impassable.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Herdman brought their little son, Terry, home from Grace Hospital at Hutchinson, Sunday.  He is at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Gordon.  His condition is improved.
 
October 1956
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Davenport plan to move next week to their ranch at Calhan, Colorado, where they purchased recently.
 
McCracken Mustang 6 man football team has been undefeated since their opener against Burdett.  They downed Schoenchen 26-78 last Friday.  Bob Higgins and Perry Irvin led the ground attack behind good blocking from Norman (Abie) Pfannenstiel, Larry Eisenhour and James Hansen while Bobby Peters varied the attack with his passing.
 
October 1966
The MHS Mustangs were beaten Friday night by Odin 37-13.
 
Jan North left from Kansas City Saturday for New York where she left by plane to join her husband Arlyn who is stationed in Germany with the military.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sekavec and Lane moved to Hoisington where he has employment with the M.O.P. railroad.
 
October 1976
Sue Davis and Leslie Rogers were crowned as McCracken Homecoming Royalty at the McCracken- Dorrance game on Friday.  Other attendants were Kim McCormick, Paulette Healy, Don Johnson and Mike Conner.  Crown bearer was David Moran and flower girl was Melissa Morgan.  The Mustangs won 36-28.
 
Mrs. C. J. Buster, Manhattan and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Buster spent last week at Breckenridge, Colorado.
 
The PRIDE committee elected new officers. They are Chairman, Donald
Davis; Vice-Chairman, Francis Wierman; Secretary, Drewie McGaughey; treasurer, Donita Parsons, Publicity, Patricia Petz and assistants, Ellen Davis and Paulette Healy.
 
October 1986
Jennifer Rogers, Dana Irvin, Lindsey Groff and Angie Petz had a Halloween project at Rush Center Grade School of painting pumpkins.
 
Outstanding player for the McCracken Leopard Cubs volleyball team was Mamie Rogers.
 
October 1996
Dan Zeller and Amber Georg were King and Queen at LaCrosse High School Homecoming.  Michael Harp was a candidate for Homecoming King at Hays High School.
 
Dean Thompson, Rex McConnell, Glenn Conner and Diz Washaliski won second in the Senior Division at the Fort Hays State Alumni Golf tournament played at Smoky Hill Country Club.
