Thursday visitors to the McCracken Library and Jail/Museum were Roy A. and Jane Moore and son Jonathan of Blanchard, Idaho. They were doing genealogical research on the Sutcliff and Moore families who lived in McCracken and LaCrosse. They found two Sutcliffs in the doctor's ledger of Dr. Dutton at the museum. They also spent time in LaCrosse.

Carolyn Thompson visited Margery Frusher and Joy North Schell in Ness City on Tuesday. They signed the application for membership in the NSDAR for Mary Beth Peach, LaCrosse. With Margery was Rosie Gerstner, who with her husband Joe ran Southfork for many years.

Judy Hugh and Carolyn Thompson attended Octoberfest on Friday. Al Hugh and Diz Washaliski played in the Fort Hays Senior Golf Tournament on Thursday at the Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays.

We wanted to mention that Mrs. Donna Rolo's grandsons , Skyler Jones, McCracken and Josh Stieben, Bazine, were both lost in vehicle accidents . These accidents were as sad to those communities as they were to her. She can now be with them. RIP

Verlene Wilson, WaKeeney, formerly of McCracken, was a guest speaker at the St. Mary's Faith Sharing group at St. Mary's Catholic Rectory. She talked about her experience on a missionary trip to Tanzania, Africa, on Lake Victoria this past summer with her cousin. She gave a rosary made by the people of Tanzania to each of those in attendance. Those enjoying the program were Phyllis Conrad, Jeanette McCormick, Jean Schutte, Twila Higgins, DeAnna Bergquist, Arlene Gilbert and Carolyn Thompson.

My apologies to Linda Seymour. I left her name out of our McCracken Main Street Literary Society group. She is a valued contributor to our book club . Our previous leader happened to be at the library one day last week. Tomi Rues was meeting with a library committee of Sally Irvin, Melanie Zeller and Lynnette Doornbos. Touch up painting was being done on Thursday at the library.

Word has been received of the death of Glenn Pfaff, Brownell, on Saturday. More next week.

Our sympathy to the family of Margaret Helen Brenner, 85, of Beeler who died October 2, 2015 at Cedar Village Long Term Care in Ness City. She was the wife of Ben Brenner. They lived north of Bazine for 17 years and at Triple Bar Ranch near Beeler for 40 years. She is survived by her husband Ben, five sons and three daughters. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, McCracken.

Dorothy Graham, Kingman, visited with Priscilla Jacobs and Mary McCormick this past Friday.

Thanks to the County commissioners and their workers for ‘fixing’ the Liebenthal-McCracken road.

Congratulations to Flynn and Audra Holland on the birth of a son born September 22, 2015 in Albuquerque. He has been named Parrin James Holland. History Notes

1966: The 1st MHS Homecoming will be held February 11 for the Mustangs. Terry Peters was crowned King and Dixie Walker, Queen. Roy Jones arrived home from Viet Nam where he had served a year. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Showalter and family moved into the Mary Higgins property. Penney’s of LaCrosse will close their doors February 26. 80% of Ransom voters approved a $700,000 bond issue for a new high school building. Passenger service has been discontinued on the Mo-Pac. 137 grade school pupils and teachers attended the McCracken Library open house. Anita Funk has been a patient in St. Francis Hospital where she has been critically ill with hepatitis. New teachers In McCracken are: Carolyn Deever, Guy and Sonja Conner, Laurel Woods, Lorraine Norlin, Reginald Washaliski and Sharon Zier. Gerald Barnes is a teache in Alexander. Gas price the at Coop station SE/corner of town, .29.9. Census of agriculture lists 771 farms in Rush County. A mobile classroom was added to the McCracken Grade School. 119 Students in grade school – 57 in high school. The price of wheat - $1.76. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lovitt moved to Ransom where he is employed by Humburg’s. McCracken scored 100 points against Utica’s 90 on Friday. Scorers were Doug Whitis, Mike Peters, Richard Higgins, Terry Peters and Jim Brack.

1967: Officers for the Athenian Club are Philena Baus, Lola Rixon, Irene Gumm and Wilma Washaliski. Cadette Girl Scout members are Donna Davis, Alicia Rues, Patty Littler, Roxie Rogers, Beverly Barker, Debbie Derrand leader Irene Gumm. 8th grade graduates: Buddy Barker, John Brack, Cheryl Casey, James Conrad, Kenneth Foster, Lynne Hinman, Stephen McFarren, Vic Parsons, Kirby Petz, Rodney Taylor, Louise Rourke, Karla Wendler, Howard Higgins. Robert Peters received a top honor award in a contest on hardware retailing. McCracken was hit by a tornado in late June. The north wall of the Lubri-Gel building was destroyed and Joe Casey’s farm buildings were torn up and thrown off their foundations. There was 2.6 rain fall in 40 minutes. Due to hail damage wheat is averaging 2-3 bushels. Bill Zeller arrived home having received his discharge from the Navy. Dixon Café closed Saturday and opened Sunday under new management, Donald Davis is the new manager. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zinn and family moved into the Joe Gaschler property.
