Our sympathy to the family of Donna Mae Rolo, 80, Ransom, who died September 21, 2015 at her home. One of her daughters is Rose Jones of McCracken. Two who pre-deceased her, were her grandsons, Skyler Jones and Josh Stieben. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook.

Mass will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, October 3, at 6:30 p.m. Father Kumi will preside. All are welcome.

Faith Sharing will begin at St. Mary's Rectory on Monday, October 5, at 10:00 a.m. with a special guest, Verlene Wilson. She will tell the group about her mission trip to Africa this summer. Guests are welcome to hear this talk.

WHOO HOO!! Word has been received that the McCracken Rodeo has again won rodeo of the year. Congrats.

Spencer White and Whitney Boerfma were married September 26, 2015 in Cimmaron. Reception, dinner and dance were held in Dodge City. Spencer is the grandson of Bob and Marlene Wilson Funk.

Corey Weber, Beeler, had a hole in one Thursday with a 6 iron on the McCracken Golf Course. Congrats!!

Our sympathy to Rose Jones and family on the death of her mother, Donna Mae Rolo, who died September 21, 2015. She was born October 12, 1934 in Fairmont, Nebraska, married Wilbur Rollo November 17, 1955. She is survived by 4 sons and 5 daughters. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook, Kansas.

Ron and Cathy Casey, Rose and Les Diehl were here over the weekend visiting Arline Rues. Les was involved with the last golf tournament of the season.

Jim and Kathy Burgardt, California, were here Wednesday afternoon and evening looking at genealogy for the Kline and Lent families. They found treasures in our little library.

Hoop and Twila Higgins along with Bet McCormick graciously mowed St. Mary’s Cemetery this last week. Hopefully this will be the final mowing for the season. It is so much appreciated by all. A job well done guys.

Ann Barnes and her ‘kids’ Bill and Sue took Jean Schutte to Hays for dinner this week; they took a” road trip” back to McCracken.

Congrats to Audra Bergquist who was chosen Queen at the WaKeeney homecoming this past Friday. She is the daughter of Bryan and Treva Bergquist.

All residences are asked to put up a homemade Scarecrow in their yard by October 15 for judging. Straw has to appear somehow on your scarecrow. Think about all your creativity and go for it!!! Prizes will be awarded.

There will be nothing scary about the McCracken Scarecrow Fest! Join in the fun by stuffing and dressing your own handcrafted scarecrow to be displayed in your yard in McCracken. Be sure and include a short story about your scarecrow. Fun starts October 15th with judging the day of Fall fest on Saturday, October 24th. Maps will be available showing the location so folks can view all the scarecrows. Winner will receive a prize. Start planning now and building your scarecrow. Great family fun! Sunday, September 27th, the McCracken Country Club held its final golf tournament of the year. 22 golfers attended for a 2 person Texas Scramble tournament and had a great time. The winners were: 1stplace Sean Peters and Mitch Keeley; 2nd Smoky Fairbanks and Les Stoecklein; 3rd Tony and Butch Harp. Prizes were also awarded to the following golfers: Longest Drive Butch Harp; Closest to pin #3 Lane Pfannenstiel; Closest to pin #4 Trent Withuhn; Closest to pin #8 Smoky Fairbanks; Women’s Longest Drive Mary Beth Peach; Longest Putt Mary Beth Peach. After golf a delicious lunch was served by Sue Davis, Diana and Arky McNair and Rose Diehl. Thanks for the work and donations throughout the year by these people. Special thanks to Arky McNair and Carolyn Thompson for delivering pop and water on the course to thirsty golfers! Watch this column for next year’s schedule. NOW is a great time to golf!! History Notes: 9/30
1965: Marvin Foos is the new manager of the Farmers Union Elevator. They will live in the EUB parsonage. Harry Sultzer attended the inauguration at Washington, DC last week. McCracken Farmers Coop has been designated as a suitable shelter for Atomic fallout. Bob Fear has been named manager of Humburg’s in LaCrosse. Terry Wierman is leader of “Flippers”, a musical group in Hays. McCracken Central Office of the Farmers Telephone Company was closed Monday and conversion to dial was made by Golden Belt Telephone Assn. Operators for the Telephone Company was Elsie Showalter, Martha Shaefer, Betty Nowles and Gladys Fear. MHS lost to Belpre-Trousdale in the Regional Tournament. Team members are Doug Higgins, Ronnie Rein, Mike and Dennis Peters, Jim Brown, Benny Rogers, Tony Harp, Kenny Mills and Daryl North. MHS will graduate 11 seniors. Rev. Sidney Dillinger has been assigned to the McCracken Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Keith North have moved into the A.F. Marak house this week. LeeRoy Schuckman will assume position of superintendent of McCracken schools this fall replacing Oliver Pearson who has been superintendent the past 30 years. Jimmie Muller left for San Diego for Marine training. A quarter section of Rush County land brought $35,816.00, located 1 1&Mac218;2 miles north of town and purchased by Jack Wilson.
