An e-mail from E. A. (Nick) Nichol of Houston (formerly of LaCrosse) writes, “I have been gone for 14 days in the hospital with mrsa the flesh eating version of Staph infection. Very dangerous and communicable. I am going to live this time. I am home now. When I was in the hospital there were 17 other cases there as well. This is super version of Staph and is very easily passed from person to person. The mrsa bacteria are virtually every where. You have it on you and so does everybody else. The only way you can get it is thru an open wound. Even a scratch is enough. If you don’t take care of your wound immediately and clean the wound with anti bacterial medicine and it gets a head start they might have to take a leg or arm etc. Even then you can die. Very bad stuff. You don’t want take any chances, wash your hands frequently and keep every thing clean around you. I had Staph infection about hip level and I was treating but I got it any way.”

Benny McCaskey sent a sheet that he found in his Dad's stuff from the high school yearbook for the museum. They liked to include a "play on words of people’s names).  We will share a few items each week:

Jane Glaspy gives and devises to George Doerr one can of Johnson's auto wax with which to polish his Whippet.

Chester McGaughey bestows upon George Myers his farm with buildings thereon including the Barnes covered with red paint and one box to be used for her collection of tacks to Marjorie Norlin.

Ruth Durand wills one revolver to Benjamin McCaskey providing he ditches the "Shotgun" which he possesses at present.  The reason for the latter provision is that a shotgun does not Schutte as well as a revolver.

Messer Editors:  Did you ever visit the west end of Big Timber?  If not you ought to do so at your earliest opportunity.  In a recent visit at Hampton P. O., I was surprised to see there was such a large body of the best land in the country lying between Big Timber and the Smoky. That section of country is rapidly settling up with an intelligent, industrious class of people and The Progress ought to have at least twenty subscribers among them. I believe there will be nearly a thousand acres of wheat sown along Big Timber this fall and judging from the number of claims being taken, that beautiful prairie, from the head of the stream to its mouth, will soon be one vast wheat field.  The land yet untaken is just as good as can be found anywhere, and Messrs. Leach and Hampton, or in fact any of the settlers there will take pleasure in showing the country to those desirous to settle.  Again, I say, visit Big Timber and see a sight that will do your eyes good.  Yours truly, Junius
