The KC Chiefs won the rainy Monday night ESPN football game 21-14 over the San Diego Chargers, 29-28. It was the first Monday night victory in 10 years. Some of those attending were Les Rogers, Richard Baldwin, Wayne Gottschalk, Dave Haffel, Mike Legleiter, Chuck Becker. Bryan Bergquist, Glenn Herrman and Fr. Rene were spotted in the crowd.
Those attending the graveside services for Marlin McGinnis in the Brownell Cemetery were Arlene Gilbert, Lorraine Ryan, Addie Mills, Walter & Janie Rogers, Carl & Velma Legleiter and Bob Wolfe.
Congratulations to Joe and Cyndi Higgins on the birth of a son, Ryan Presley, born September 13, 2010. Ryan weighed 7 lb 12 oz and was 19.6 inches long. Grandparents are Martin and Mary Higgins, Lenexa, and Presley and Linda Stickle, Uniontown, PA.
Ruth Crawshaw and Sharon Irvin attended Fall Assembly for Central Kansas Library System in Camp Aldrich Wednesday & Thursday. Ruth attended both days and Sharon one.
Bob House celebrated his 80th birthday party at Boondocks with guests: Dight and Leonore House; Addie Mills; Cheryl and Allen Werth; Kari Groff and Audrey; Matt Groff; Lisa, Dustin, Keldon, McKaylee and Kelby Day; Bruce and Susan Davis; Brian and Lisa Davis, Madison, Hunter and Landon; Bruce and Ellen Kershner, Clinton, Clayton and Addie Kershner;
Donnie Schuckman, Stacy, Jarred, Hailee and Braydon Scheetz; Melissa and Davis Thompson and Annette Chestnut. Of course Melissa and Eric Davis were there working.
Arline Rues, Rocky and June Rocky were also in attendance for grandparents day in LaCrosse last week.
Ellen Kershner picked up Annette Chestnut at the Wichita Airport on Friday then motored on to Lindsborg to watch Clayton play football for LaCrosse High School. Annette spent the weekend with Ellen and family. Melissa and Davis Thompson spent the weekend and Ellen took them home on Sunday.
Hoisington High School played their first home football game on their new artificial turf Friday night against Ellinwood. Hoisington won 40-12.
Jim and Lisa Benneman, Bison; Dean and Jeannie Linsey, Silver Lake were weekend guests of Russ Linsey. The gals had fun attending garage sales around town.
The Golf Club had a great last tournament of the season. 1st place Michael & Allen Morgan, Johnny Mac Showalter; 2nd-Chuck, Jason, Joe from LaCrosse; 3rd. Tony Harp, Bruce Davis, and Richard Showalter.

The golf club will have a fun night Sept 24th with a Glow Ball tournament. $5 per person and $5 per ball. It will start at dark around 9:00pm. Have a Great winter and we will see everyone in the spring.

Joy Hunter enjoyed some home cooked chicken fried steaks at the home of Rob and Helena McGaughey on Saturday evening.
Shirley Higgins joined Matt Wheeler and Marcia Tacha at Boondocks Thursday evening. Marcia enjoyed seeing Rose Diehl and Tony Rues as she worked in Topeka for a Judge before moving to Hays.
The ground work has begun for the trees to be planted on Main Street. John Irvin and Roger McNair dug the holes for the trees on Monday. A Beautification meeting will be held Friday evening at 6:30 at the Library. Everyone welcome to attend.
Lorraine Ryan and Shirley Higgins visited with Wade and Juanita Barnett in Hays on Monday.
Tanner Elias, son of Travis and Tina Elias, Colby, received a blue ribbon on his 4-H goat and a grand champion ribbon on his 4-H wood project at the Thomas County Fair in July. This qualified him to enter his wood project in the Kansas State Fair where he received a blue ribbon this past week. The wood project was an oak cedar chest with a deer head and two flying pheasants hand scrolled out of walnut wood and placed on the front of the chest. Congratulations, Tanner!
Marlene Funk and girls were here Saturday for the Community Garage Sale. Her family who came were Anita from Solomon and McCracken, Sherry from WaKeeney and Kelly and Mason from Ness City. She says they had a great time, helped the economy and hope we have it again.
Marge and Michele Moran returned from a cruise on Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Sea to New England. Places in Maine visited were Portland, Kennebunkport, Walkers Point, Bar Harbor, and Cadillac Mountain. They then sailed to St. John, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia and then back to Boston where they saw the sights and visited Harvard and MIT. On board the cruise liner they enjoyed the Ice Performance on the rink aboard ship. There were shows every night and the food was fantastic. Joe and Betty Ann Menzak picked them up at the pier and they visited with them and their family for the weekend. Betty Ann is a cousin of Marge - her father was a brother of Frank Stejskal.
David and Fran Work, Gladstone, Illinois, were here on Saturday. They were researching their Neal/ Lovitt ancestors. They visited McCracken Public Library, Smoky Hill Traders and the Jail/Museum. They had lunch at Boondocks with Judy Hugh, Shirley Higgins and Carolyn Thompson.
Craig Miner, died Sunday, September 12 at Wichita. He was the Willard W. Garvey Distinguished Professor of History and past chairman of the department of history at Wichita State University. His works include "West of Wichita: Settling the High Plains of Kansas"; "Kansas: The History of the Sunflower State, 1854-2000"; and "Next Year Country: Dust to Dust in Western Kansas." He had his roots in Ness City.
Faith Sharing will begin Monday, October 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Rectory. Everyone is welcome. We meet once a week.
Tuesday, October 5, 1:00 p.m. at McCracken Public Library, Gerald Crotinger will present a workshop on using the computer that contains McCracken and area names from the earliest times to the present. It will be an excellent research tool for genealogists.
Verlene Wilson and Carolyn Thompson returned home from Oahu, Hawaii on Tuesday. They toured the Arizona Memorial, the Bowfin sub, the Polynesian Cultural Center, a tour of the island of Oahu, Dole Plantation and historical sites around Honolulu and the volcanoes Diamond Head and Punchbowl. They stayed at Waikiki.

Carol Huxol is attending Fort Hays State College this year.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Ryan left last week for New York City where they attended the annual convention of the American Bankers Association. They plan to be gone three weeks.

The Mustangs defeated Quivera Heights 14-8 through the efforts of quarterback Jeff McCormick.
McCracken girls dominated at Hanston on Saturday winning 4 matches in 8 games, defeating Hanston, Ingalls and Jetmore. High scorer was Janet Conner. Leading spiker Sandy Taylor and designated setter was Kayla Higgins.
