Jesse Allen and Jolene Showalter have been here visiting her mother, Eunice North.
 
A picture of Hunter Davis was in the Hutchinson News on Monday. He was enjoying a Pronto Pup at the Kansas State Fair. He is the grandson of Bruce and Susan Davis.
 
A beautification meeting was held at the McCracken Library Sunday afternoon with Susan Davis, Norma and Roger McNair, Jean Schutte and Pat Derr attending.  Work has begun on the gazebo in the park which will be completed by the Octoberfest on October 8.
 
We have received word that Harold Harper, Mesa, Arizona, died September 8, 2011. Harold lived here with his parents in the 1950’s. He along with Bob Fear & Vic Higgins played baseball in LaCrosse and Great Bend. He moved to Mesa 25-30 years ago and had retired from trucking. His sister, Peggy Harper Wycoff is one of the survivors.
 
Was nice visiting with Melvin and Elizabeth Barnett at the Hutchinson football game Friday night. He is athletic director at Central Christian High School, Elizabeth is retired.
 
Mark your calendars for the Octoberfest to be held in the McCracken City Park, Saturday, October 8 beginning around 3:00 p.m. There will be a chili cook off, home made cinnamon rolls, homemade ice cream, face painting, painting pumpkins, hay rack rides and a BIG auction. Watch for the ad in the Rush County News! Sponsored by the beautification committee.

Marge Moran went to Kansas City for the Avon Christmas showing this past week.
 
Carolyn Thompson attended her 55th class reunion (Class of 1956) at Great Bend on Friday and Saturday, September 16 and 17.  About 80 were in attendance.  They have 44 on their memorial list.  She stayed with a classmate, Mary Ann Eitel Gabrielson.
 
Glenn Conner is now at Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom.
 
Judy Hugh asks that you hesitate and look both ways before entering an intersection that has stop signs coming from the other direction.  She learned the hard way on Saturday.  She is OK.  She has a splint on her hand and wrist.
 
Kansas History Notes:
In 1890 the eleventh census of the United States was taken.  The population of Kansas, as published by the Government Census Department, was placed at 1,427,096.
 
On June 12, 1890, the People's Party (Populist Party) was organized at a convention held in Topeka.  At the November 1890 election the People's Party elected a large number of state legislators, but the incumbent Republican Governor Humphrey was re-elected.

William Grumbein has sold his residence to Mr. John Norlin.  We did not learn the price paid.  (This is Bruce and Sue's house).

Miss Alene Renner, who teaches third and fourth grades, has 30 students.  Those who received 100 in spelling are Richard Buxton, Bobby Cheney, Bobby Elmore, Richard Gordon, Victor Higgins, Marie Hollis, Dwayne Juvenal, Alberta Moses, Lynette Pearson, Floyd Thompson, Wayne Irvin, Christine Pivonka, William Spomer, Robert Thompson and Julius Unrein.  Richard Buxton, who attended school in Bazine last year, is attending school here.
 
The Jonach Funeral Home is McCracken newest firm and is truly becoming an institution for the community to be proud of.

Total rainfall for Sunday night and Monday rains amounted to 5.53 inches.
 
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Grant Helmer on the birth of a son born September 18 weighing seven pounds and 13 ounces.
 
September 1981
A putt-putt golf tournament was held for the last four weeks.  The 10 and under winners:  lst Joel Miller, 2nd Kelly Petz, 3rd Billy Harp; 11 and 12 year olds, lst Michael Hays, 2nd Trenton Herdman, 3rd Jason Moran; 13 and 14 year olds, lst Terry Showalter, 2nd John Moran; Open division, lst Jeff McCormick, 2nd Jim Cole, 3rd Terry Peters and Jerry Higgins, a tie.
 
Coach Bearly and his grade school football squad will travel to Hanston for their season opener.  Team members are Jason Moran (manager), Butch Hayes, Shawn Baus, Kris Bromlow, Scott Wittman (manager), Terry Showalter, Edward Mangold, Kevin Rixon (manager), Trenton Herdman, Lance McCormick and Jeff Crawshaw (manager).
