Priscilla Jacobs was in Wichita for grand parent’s day for Tessa and Jaden Jacobs this past week. She attended Tessa’s cross country meet held Tuesday at Lake Afton.  More than 600 kids participated in the event.  Over 60 ran in the 8th grade A meet and Tessa medaled 13th.  Thursday she ran in Haysville with 48 kids and medaled 10th.
 
On Wednesday, Deb Rogers attended grand parents day at LaCrosse elementary with her granddaughter, Lexi Anderson.  She was a ‘stand in’ grandmother for Emma Rues.
 
Guests of Roger and Norma McNair last week were her son and daughter, Cory Molloy, Jamie DeWitt, Mason and Hunter.  Mason celebrated his 4th birthday on Sunday afternoon.
 
Story Hour began at the McCracken Library on Saturday, September 16.  The next meeting will be held September 23 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
 
Lindsey Tacha, 8th grade student at Norton, served 20 straight points in their volleyball game against Stockton.
Jodi and Jenna Higgins attended the concert ‘Raven’ at the Hutchinson Fair Friday evening.
Cameron Horesky scored the first touchdown in Lyons Friday night running 81 yards.  He had 145 yards on 5 carries.  They won 56-0.
Hoisington volleyball girls placed second in the Russell Invitational Tournament held Saturday in Russell.  They won from Claflin, Larned, Lincoln, Russell, and lost to Minneapolis in three games. Kyra Horesky is a member of the team. 
Kayla, Lindsey and Nicole Tacha attended the volleyball tournament Saturday in Russell.  Nicole Tacha sat on the bench and ‘helped’ their coach, Tina Johnson.
 
Phyllis Higgins attended the 60th birthday party for Delores Gore at Gutch’s in Hays on Thursday evening. 
 
Mike Stull and Tayler, James Webs and Austin attended the Denver Bronco - Kansas City Chiefs football game held in Denver on Sunday afternoon.
 
Gary Barnes, Coleen Kerns, Roger and Brenda Legleiter attended the rodeo finals in Garden City this last weekend.
 
Colby Stull celebrated his 3rd birthday in St. John Thursday evening at the St. John - LaCrosse Middle School football game. His cousin, Nathan Weigel, is a member of the football team.  Colby enjoyed chocolate cupcakes and shared them with numerous friends.
 
Pete Rixon, Eric and Sara Todd, Texas, were guests of Priscilla Rixon last Saturday for lunch.  Joining them were Craig Rixon, Deb Watson, Sean Peters, Sandra Jacobs, Kirby and Joy Petz .
 
Mitch Jacobs and Terri Lasater attended the State Fair in Hutchinson.
 
Bill and Sharon Lovitt stopped in Ellsworth on Tuesday and visited with Eunice Oller Harding.  Carolyn Oller, her daughter Daphne and grandson Carson; Lola Rixon and Albert Oller were there with their mother.  Sharon had a good report from her doctor in Kansas City, she doesn't have to go back for two months.
 
The cancellation stamp commemorating the 20th anniversary of the McCracken Rodeo has been donated to the Jail/Museum by the post office.  Our thanks to Lora Bain for obtaining permission for this gift.
 
John, Ellen and Josh Moran and Michele Moran were in Kansas City the weekend of September 10 for the Chiefs game. Nicole and Clark Kirk were in McCracken for the weekend.
 
Attending the Diabetes Clinic at Ness City on Thursday included Marie Brack, Alton and LaVerne Huddleston and Robin Conrad. 
 
 Megan Conrad is a senior at Hays High School and is working at Walmart.
 
Jessica Casey, daughter of L. Pat and Jackie Casey was an attendant for the 2006 Western Plains homecoming.
 
The fall 2006 issue of the Kansas Traveler can be picked up at the post office.  A few of the articles include the 10 top travel destinations in the United States, the 50th anniversary of the Interstate Highway System, books for holiday giving and the Lustron homes.
 
Christopher Pham, has accepted a $400 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award.  He is the son of Hung and Tran Pham and grandson of Philena Baus.   Craig Stramel, son of Glen and Rhonda Brenner Stramel and grandson of Ben and Margaret Brenner, is a senior at Fort Hays State University majoring in mathematics and computer science.  He was awarded a $500 Elgin and Freda Denio Math Scholarship
 
Francis Legleiter, 79, Liebenthal, died September 14, 2006 at his home.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, three sons and five daughters, three sisters, Marietta Walker, Bernadette Oelkers and Margaret Hamilton, 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

Sam Twiselton leaves for Edgely, North Dakota to visit his father who he has not seen for fifteen years.
 
Doc Smith has a big attraction for the Opera House in McAlpin's Hans Hanson Co., of twenty-five people.  The company carries a sixteen piece band and an orchestra of twelve pieces.

Phoebe Elias sold her beauty shop to Ada North.
 
The house of Ralph Hinman burned to the ground last Friday.
 
September 1946
Miss Dorothy Elmore and Miss Joan Ryan left Monday night for Columbia, Mo., where they will enter Stephens College.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Brackney have purchased the old Farwell hardware building and will open a café as soon as some repair work on the building can be done.
 
Rev. J. P. O'Flynn, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church returned home from a three months' visit at his old home in Firies, Kerry County, Ireland.

Bill and Sharon Lovitt and family moved last Friday to Ransom where he is employed by the Humburg Company.
 
Jim's Self Service in McCracken, Mrs. Millie Carper, owner, sold the store to Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Parsons of McCracken.  Mr. and Mrs. Parsons previously owned the Dairy Bar.  The Carpers bought the McCracken Sundry store in 1962.
 
September 1976
A weekend Stremel reunion was held at Cedar Bluff.
 
The McCracken Mustang football players and cheerleaders were pictured in the September 16, 1976, RCN.  They are Mitchell Jacobs, Larry Hinman, Larry Buster, Layne Morgan, Dale Elias, Shannon McKinney, Kellye Irvin, Craig Rixon, Don Johnson, Fred Taylor, Marty Mills, Joe Conner, Mike Conner, Leslie Rogers, Jerry Casey and Craig Stull.  Cheerleaders, Cheryl Foreman, Paulette Healy, Janet Unrein, Sandy Foreman and Kim McCormick.  The mascot is Patti Swartz.

Jack Wilson and Kristi Bemis, McCracken's Rodeo Queen appeared on the noon news on Channel 7 on Tuesday.
