Those helping with the mass at St. Mary's on Saturday night were Twila Higgins, Jean Schutte and Michele Moran, sacristans; taking up the collection were Jason and John Moran, Lector, Carolyn Thompson, Music leader, Michele Moran. Father Matthew Kumi joined us for the dinner at the Community Building.
The Breakfast for Dinner was well received at the Community Building on Saturday evening. Sort of like Groundhog day in September. The proceeds go to the Golf Course.
The music provided for Ben Thompson's funeral - pianist, Jerilyn Stull and the McCracken Methodist English Hand Bell Choir - Arlene Gilbert, John and Sharon Irvin, Brenda Legleiter, Ruthanne Crawshaw, Bill Zeller and Carin Rogers.
Addie Mills was a Friday overnight guest of her niece Jennifer Dreiling at Salina. Sarah Jo Dreiling and Norma Allen, Jennifers sisters, also came for a visit. On Saturday Addie, Jennifer and Norma took a road trip. Jennifer and Norma visited Normas daughter and Addie visited her grandson, Andy Hansen.
Doris White and Carolyn Thompson attended the 100th anniversary of Riley Grade School in Great Bend on Sunday. They both began there in the Fall of 1943. Carolyns father, Colonel Dennis, was in the fourth grade there in 1922. She took a picture of his class with Miss Scott. The school was built after the big tornado in Great Bend that destroyed the East School on Frey Street. The school district sold the East school land to my grandfather, D. T. Dennis, and he built his new house on the spot. We had a kindergarten band and I shared a picture of it.
The American Legion post 392 of Bazine conducted the military services at the cemetery. Commander is Gary Foos, squad members are Stan Erb, Terry Wasinger, Brad Erb, Kenny Heinrich, Alvin Schugart, Dennis Brungardt, Delvin Bruntz, Eldon Bruntz, Dan Stacy; West-Burch American Legion 59 of McCracken member Arlyn North, Sons of the Legion from Brownell, Brett Gilbert and Gary Barnes. Sgt. McBride and Specialist Garcia of the Kansas National Guard - Honor Guard of Dodge City brought the urn and the flag to the gravesite. They snapped the flag twice, front and back, then folded it into a triangle. This is done for those who have been cremated. It was presented by Sgt. McBride to Susan Keith.
George and Marilyn Sommers and Fred and Pat Lohrey returned from a trip to Alaska on September 4. They flew from Denver to Anchorage on August 22, rented a motorhome and visited areas they had not seen when they went five years ago.

Congratulations to the LaCrosse girls Volleyball team who placed first in the LaCrosse/Otis- Bison volley ball team tournament held Saturday in Otis and LaCrosse. Those teams invited were Kinsley, Ellis, Stafford, Otis-Bison, Plainville, TriPlains, Victoria and LaCrosse.
Jerry and Chuck Higgins spent Saturday in Haven officiating the tri-angular girls volley ball games, Lyons, Nickerson and Haven.
Scott, Lora and Clay Faiman, Sharon Lovitt, Kathy and Audra Hurd attended the dedication of the Faiman football field in Belleview, Nebraska. Scotts father, John Faiman was a long time football coach for West Bellview.

The winning teams: 1st Tony Harp, Sean Peters, Ty Elias, Jason Showalter, 2nd Zack Switzer, Jeff Werth, Norbert Flax, Dennis Brungardt; 3rd Todd Basgall, Jeremy Morgan, Dustin Matal, Richard Hodges.It was a great day to golf followed by breakfast for lunch. Sixteen freshman, very bold and casual in appearance at least-- entered MHS in the fall of 1947. The class consisted of Bob Cheney, Jack Wilson, Ronnie English, Stanley Wahl, John Rixon, Alverna Unrein, Marlene Pfannenstiel, Bertie Moses, Caroline Klee, Lynnette Pearson, Bob Fear, Dick Buxton, Floyd Thompson, Sylvester (Bet) McCormick, Floyd Thompson, Vic Higgins, and Ray Ohlemeier. As sophomores Ronnie English, Stanley Wahl, John Rixon, Alverna Unrein, and Sylvester McCormick were no longer among their ranks. As juniors Marlene Pfannenstiel dropped from our roll and Calvin Wilson was added. As seniors we boast of the same eleven members as our junior year. Juniors in 1951 were Walter Rogers, Pat Keener, LuAnne Scheideman, LeRoy Gilbert, Benny Anderson, Charles Jacobs, Catherine Cain, Gladys Thompson, Barbara Davis, Patricia Klee, Allan Thompson, Shirley Lovitt and Richard Gordon. Sophomores were Harold Dean Juvenal, Juanita Walker, Dight House, Dean Gilbert, Risha Malotke, Shirley Brackney, Ed Cain, Phyllis Rein, Pete Rixon and Lois Johnson. Freshmen: Tom OLoughlin, Yvonne McFarren, Roberta Anderson, Joe Jennings, LeeRoy Schuckman, Betty Davis and Kay Fear.
