Alicia Rues has donated a tee shirt with the Centennial seal 1887-1987 to the Jail/Museum. It features the railroad, whest and milo. It was designed by Paulette Nicholson and is also on the cover of the McCracken History Book Volume 1. Larry and Joyce Eisenhour have renewed their membership in the Jail/Museum.
On Friday for a short time there was a deluge of rain in LaCrosse. I stopped by Casey's and found our own Deb Rogers Smith, Lenora, in the store. She was coming from her home and going to Wichita to visit her daughter and the rain about swept her off the the Interstate 70, so she turned south. She was going to the Fair with her family on Saturday. It was great to see her. She also got to visit with another neighbor, Roger Legleiter.
We were grateful to hear that Suzanne Azzarella found her blind cat. It got out of the house and had to fend itself for several days.
Lots of sports was going on on Saturday - grade school football and volleyball tournaments. Ellis participated in the annual LaCrosse, Otis Bison Invitational Tournament. Ellis won first in the tournament. Stephanie Greenway is a member of the team. Team involved were LaCrosse, Otis-Bison, Kinsley, Tri-Plains, Ellis, Victoria, Stafford and Plainville.
The Ellsworth Invitational Varsity Round-Robin tournament was also held on Saturday. Ellsworth won all five matches in two games each. Shannon Keith is a member of the team. The teams participating were TMP, Nickerson, Central Plains, Ellinwood, Ellsworth and Republic County.
The Great Bend football team fellows have decided to create an edge for themselves. They all had their hair cut into Mohawks. I am told Josh Moran looks pretty handsome in his. They call themselves Mohawk Nation. It must work, because they have been successful so far.
We were happy to hear that Twilla Kraus has returned home from the hospital in Wichita where she had surgery on her legs. Signe Barnes stayed with her mother.
Eddie Kantor and two of his friends, Raul and Pat, Austin, Texas were here for the weekend to vist John and Melanie Zeller. On Saturday they and John and Melanie took a trip to Lucas on their Harleys where they visited Garden of Eden and the Grassroots Art Museum. On Sunday John and Melanie accompanied them on their bikes to Marquette to see the Motorcycle Museum. John worked for Eddie when he lived in Texas. The visitors then returned home to Austin.
Ben Thompson has returned from Washington D. C. On Sunday his family, Deb Luft, Wichita; Al and Judy Hugh, Hays; and Carolyn Thompson had dinner with him at his home.

On October 6, 2012, Debi and Myron Schuckman are hosting a volunteer work day at the McCracken Grade School for any graduate or resident of McCracken or surrounding areas that would like to participate. Hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can come for an hour or all day and share in the fun. Donuts/coffee and lunch will be served at the school, as well as cold water provided throughout the day. For anyone that helps, Myron and Debi will host a cook-out at 5:30 p.m. at 602 W. Ash. Be sure and bring your lawn chair and an appetite for the cook-out. More information to follow regarding the communitys grade school.
Good bye Summer Hello Fall!! It is once again time for fund raisers. There will be a casserole night on Saturday, September 22 for the swimming pool. The supper will begin at 5:30 at the Community Building with proceeds going toward the swimming pool. The McCracken Mustang relay for life will hold bingo beginning at 7:00. There is a sign up sheet for casseroles in the post office. Come to the supper for some delicious/different casseroles and bingo for some lovely prizes!! See you there.

Wendell Conrad, Vacaville, California, visited with Roy and Phyllis Conrad a few days this week. He was on his way to Texas to visit his daughter, Tammie Warmack and grandchildren.

I received a copy of the Active aging insert in the Wichita Eagle from a cousin in Wichita. It shows a picture of the McCracken water tower taken by Frank and Glenda Hurlock. The Hurlocks have traveled throughout Kansas from February 23 until July 11, 2011 in search of one water tower in each of the States 105 counties to mark the states 150th birthday. Lynnette Doornbos is now working part time at the McCracken Post office, Austin is working in Brownell in the Post office. Congrats to these two young people.
Carolyn Davenport will be the vacillator for the "Baby Boomer's" event at the Kansas State Fair. AARP will sponsor the first senior spelling bee at the Kansas State Fair on Sept. 13th. AARP will have a booth in the Meadowlark building to collect fairgoer's ideas on how to strengthen Social Security and Medicare as part of the national "You've Earned a Say effort. The article is featured in the AARP news this week. First prize is $100.00 and second prize is $40.00. Vacillators fee-gate ticket ($10.00). Carolyn regrets not paying more attention in learning her vowels in spelling class.
Tina and Quintin Elias, McCracken, Brecken Nelson Tribune were week-end guests of Carolyn and Dave Davenport.
Shirley Bundy, Hutchinson, Barry and LeAnn Knight, Norman and Denise Fuller, Lanette Kaster, Overland Park, and Kathleen Thomas, Parsons celebrated with many friends Celeste Davis, Memphis 50th party in Vegas last week-end.Carolyn and Lenora did not join them since Carolyn just was in Vegas the end of July attending a Scentsy convention.

1976 A ten year summary of the K-18 Cookie League McCracken All Stars was prepared by James Schafer, who is the manager. The record for 1966-1976 is 280 wins and 52 losses. The first team offense: Mark McCormick, Don Irvin, Les Rogers, Kellye Irvin, Steve Sloan, Rodney Taylor, Greg Buster, Glen Ryan and Lonnie Irvin. First team defense: Scott Kershner, Chuck Higgins, Myron Schuckman, Frank Foster, Jerry Casey, Jerry Higgins, Rob McGaughey, John Showalter and Tom Rues. The McCracken six-man football team, coached by Al Rues, closed its 1954 season last Wednesday by defeating Hanston 51-20. The Mustangs had a record of six wins against one loss. They began their season by sinning their first game from Alexander, 46-13; lost their second to Bazine 12-26; then won their next 5 consecutive gamesBison 21-6; Schoenchen 50-12; Rozel 32-28; Brownell 68-27 and Hanston 51-20. Jim Jones, Byron Gilbert, and Bill Lovitt all seniors played their last game. Other team members are Larry Eisenhour, John Hanson, Bobby Higgins, Augustine Thompson, Gary Oller, Gary Walker, Perry Irvin, Norman Pfannenstiel, James Hanson, Furlen Irvin, Roy Conrad and Bill Wierman. Coach is Al Rues.
