There will be mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, September 10, at 4:00 p.m. celebrating the 130th anniversary of the church. Father Matthew Kumi will officiate. The church was dedicated on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgil Mary September 8, 1886.
Our Dream group began again on August 29. Our leader, Christine Wagner, took out three years to earn her degree as a Presbyterian minister. We met for our first meeting at her home in rural Yocemento. Those attending were Kathleen Kuchar and Carol Heiman, Hays; Shirley Higgins and Carolyn Thompson, McCracken.
Mary Ann Tanking, Salina, had twenty of our first history book re-printed for us. Let us know if you would like one. They will be $30.00 each, the cost of printing has gone up.
Mike, Susan and Carolyn spent Saturday morning in Manhattan at the Flint Hills Discovery Center. It celebrates the last major stand of unbroken tall grass prairie in North America. It has interactive exhibits that tell the story of the Flint Hills from pre-history until today. There is an immersive-experience theater and a children's section. Special exhibits are brought in throughout the year. The exhibit now is on Dinosaurs.
On Saturday afternoon we attended the KSU women's volleyball match with Tennessee State. Shannon Keith is a member of the pep band. We then went to Tuttle Creek to visit Danny and Gail Dennis and their granddaughters, Abby and Harlow. We toured the new dorm where Shannon lives and food center.
Janet Reed, Ellsworth, a former teacher at McCracken, was entertaining her granddaughters for the weekend at Ellsworth. They forgot outfits for church, however she had kept dresses of her daughter's. Each was in a vintage dress.
St. Mary's Faith Sharing group will begin their Fall meetings on Monday, September 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the rectory. Come join our group.
