Ruthetta Irvin broke her hip in a fall at her home several days ago. We hope she is home by the time you read this and doing well.
Chuck Higgins and Zach, Tanner Higgins, Ryan Moore, Zac Stetler, Alex Loomis, Deb DeHaven, Lonnie & Tammy Irvin, Kyra Horesky and Shirley Higgins attended the Garden City Juco Cisco, Texas football game Saturday night in Garden. The Busters won 19-7. Cameron Horesky is a member of the team.
A friend recommended watching American War on Drugs, a documentary shown on Showtime. They commented it will open your eyes about our presidents.
Where else but in McCracken??? You are driving down the street on a Saturday afternoon, look a little to your left and there are 3-4 cows grazing in a neighbors yard!!!!!
We are thankful that Arky McNair has returned home from the stroke center hospital in Denver. Thanks for all the prayers.

The Jail/Museum has received a history of Rosa Elizabeth Tanck, daughter of Eggert Heinrich Tanck and Catharina Wilhelmina Fredrica Lentz Tanck. She was born in Davenport, Iowa, February 12, 1869. As a small child she moved with her parents to Rush County, Kansas, where she settled on a farm near McCracken and there she grew to womanhood. In 1898 she was united in marriage to Joanan Hurley. A few years later she moved with her husband and three small daughters to a farm near Hawley, Oklahoma, then known as Indian Territory. She lived the life of the Pioneer and developed their homestead. The rest of her 9 children were born and grew up there. The history will be placed in our genealogical section.
Marge and Michele Moran and Carolyn Thompson returned home from an Alaskan Cruise to the Inside Passage on Royal Caribbeans Rhapsody of the Seas on Saturday. Highlights of the trip were visits to Juneau, Skagway, Tracy Arm Fjord, and Victoria, Vancouver Island. Tours were on the White Pass Railroad, the Mendenhall Glacier and the Butchart Gardens. Marilyn Wierman Sommers arranged the trip. A big thanks to her.

September 1899
The Republican primary for Hampton met yesterday in Hastings store and the following were elected: F. P. Snodgrass, P. D. Saddler, L. L. Darkes, A. Walker, W. B. Caldwell, N. B. Swink, C. W. Hall, J. W. Edwards and John Kerr.
Tom Temples team started to run away a few days ago, and when he reached for the line Tom was struck by the wheel. He is somewhat crippled up, but able to get around with the aid of crutches.
The Populist primary for Hampton was held at Walnut grove school house Tuesday evening. The following delegates have been elected to attend the convention in LaCrosse: K. C. Plotner, J. T. McKenzie, A. Haas, P. H. Peer, C. Rodeman, J. W. Coughenour and F. P. Starrett.

The Ryan Elevator blew the cylinder head out of their 12-horse power gasoline engine Wednesday and put the whole works out of commission. They have sent for repairs and will have things going in a day or so.

Miss Gertrude Ramsey and Harold Anderson were married Wednesday morning September 10 at St. Marys Church.
September 1939
Thistle Grove School, southwest of town, opens Monday with an enrollment of seventeen. Miss Bernita Klee is the new teacher. Jerry Lincoln is a new pupil and he is in the third grade.
During the races at Dodge City, George Serpan got caught in a cloud of dust and crashed through a fence. He was taken to a hospital but died there. He was 24 years old. Tom Holden manages the races. He has had control of six or seven hundred races in the past ten years and this was his first casualty.

Dance at McCracken, Saturday, September 5, Jay Leonard Dance Band sponsored by the McCracken baseball Town Team. Admission $1 per person.
Billows of dust were kicked up yesterday morning when a gusty, dusty cold front, moved in bringing a chilly north wind. Temperatures last night dropped to 36 degrees.
Sadie Irvin Juvenal died of a heart attack at her home in LaCrosse at the age of 58 years.

Lavern Depperschmidt was given a contract to drive the noon kindergarten route and the shuttle lunch bus.
First grade students are Keith Austin, Travis Elias, Matthew Hays, Tambra Herdman, Eric Petz, Tammy Sewell, Lee Alan Unrein and Clayton Wilson.
Betty Ann Rider, 83, died August 24, 2009, at her home. She was born November 1, 1925 in Ness County to Harold and Alice Rufenacht Barber. She married Keith Rider in 1946. He died December 3, 1984. Survivors include son, Kip Barber and daughter Deea Pfaff, Brownell, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Ransom Cemetery.
