Betty Roberts, Larned, attended the Ingraham-Welsch reunion held at the home of Arline Rues August 8. 
 
Roger and Norma McNair returned home this past week from Colorado.  They were joined by Roger’s children and grandchildren at Pouder River.  They had a wonderful time fishing and just being together.  They returned home, turned around and drove to Ponca City, Oklahoma to visit Norma’s sister, Howard and Ruth Ann Sissel.  They were away from home when our bad wind storm hit McCracken, but were grateful everyone was safe!!
 
The McCracken golf club will host a His and Hers tournament September 4.  Tee off time is 8:30.  Please bring a pot luck dish and enjoy lunch. $50 per couple.

Roy & Phyllis Conrad attended Brendon Peach's 7th birthday party Sunday at
the Peaches house in LaCrosse.  Those who attended were his parents, Mike
and Mary Beth and brother Zack and his grandparents, Don & Helen
Peach.
 
Chuck Higgins and Tammy Irvin attended the wedding of Kelly Jennings and Harley Cummins in Kansas City Saturday afternoon.
 
Lonnie Irvin and Cameron Horesky attended the Garden City Juco football game Saturday evening in Garden City.
 
Jerry Higgins and Kyra Horesky were the officials at the Pratt Volleyball Tournament Saturday in Pratt.
 
Roger McNair broke one of his ribs when a tree limb fell on him while cleaning at the golf course.
 
Shirley and Carolyn attended the Farm Bureau dinner at Rush Center Sunday evening.
 
Bob House and Ellen Kershner took Addie Mills to Council Grove City Lake on Wednesday morning to spend some time with Maurice Klee’s family and to attend his funeral services on Thursday. Ellen and Bob visited with Ellen’s Aunt Virginia at the Council Grove Nursing Home before their return trip. Kevin and Susan Klee, Parker, Colorado, brought Aunt Addie home on Friday afternoon.
 
Maurice Klee, 84, died Saturday, August 21 at his home on Council Grove City Lake. He was born February 14, 1926, the son of Patrick L. and Louise (Krecker) Klee, in rural McCracken, Kansas. He attended Thistle Grove country Grade School and graduated from McCracken High School with the class of 1943.  Following his graduation, he and his best friend and classmate, Donald Hinman, enlisted in the US Navy. He received his commission as a Lieutenant, Jr. Grade at Columbia University in New York City. He was involved in the sonar division and spent several months in the Puerto Rico area. Upon ending his military career in 1945, he enrolled in the engineering program at General Motors in Flint, Michigan. While there he met his bride-to-be, Cellie Herrman. They were married at her home town of Downers Grove, Illinois on November 26, 1949.  After several jobs in the engineering field, he decided to attend Kansas University to complete his Masters Degree in engineering. He later taught engineering drawing and design at KU and ran a small farm in evenings and on week ends. In 1964 he moved his family to Lawrence, Indiana, where he taught at Purdue University. Eventually he gave up teaching and became the chief engineer for J.I. Case Company. The family moved to Davenport, Iowa; then Maurice was transferred to Rockford, Illinois; and later on to Burlington,, Iowa, where he spent much of his time designing the Case Uniloader. His final move for J.I. Case was to Wichita, Kansas. They lived there for two years and Maurice retired in 1987, at which time they moved to Council Grove City Lake. Survivors include his wife, Cellie of the home; children and spouses: Tom and Patty Klee Schmitt, Glenwood, Iowa; Ken and Michelle Klee Peregon, Kalamazoo, Michigan; Kevin and Jackie Klee Colgan, Dunlap, Illinois; Jay Klee, Yadkinville, North Carolina; Gareth and Nan Klee Williams, Tallahassee, Florida; Kevin and Susan Klee, Parker, Colorado. Grandchildren and spouses: Tyson and Ashley Schmitt, Scarlett Schmitt, Skyler Schmitt, Evan Klee Peregon, Katie, Kara and Chris Colgan, Carys and Bryon Smiley, Rhiannon Williams, Celyn Williams, Rhosalyn Williams, Trent and Victoris Klee Noonan, Brittney Klee, Nick Klee, Lizzie Klee and one sister, Adelaide Klee Mills. Visitation was Wednesday August 25, 2010 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with funeral services at 10:00 a.m. on August 26, 2010. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Council Grove, Kansas.

Clyde Woolfolk, Hutchinson, was a Monday visitor of Francis and Roberta Wierman.  They went to Germany together in World War 11 and returned  home together. They spent the day talking over old times. Upon returning home, Clyde went to work as a Grain Inspector   He inspected all over the United States and retired after 40 years.  He even inspected Collingwood Grain here in McCracken when Don Greenway was manager.  Only three are left in their 121st Regiment.

RODEO OF THE YEAR!  Congratulations.  The award was presented at the Rodeo in Hays on Saturday night.
 
Our September mass will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Kraus presiding. 
 
The first meeting of our Dream group was held on Friday, August 27, at the home of Kathleen Kuchar in Hays.  After sharing our dreams, we were invited to be instructed by Kathleen, retired professor of art at Fort Hays, to make a print of our dream.  Following the session we had a salad supper then attended the Art Walk in downtown Hays.  Those attending were Christine Wagner and Carol Heiman, Hays, Shirley Higgins and Carolyn Thompson, McCracken.  The next Dream will be on September 17 at Boondocks.
 
Tuesday, October 5, 1:00 p.m. at McCracken Public Library, Gerald Crotinger will present a workshop on using the computer that contains McCracken names from the earliest times to the present.  It will be an excellent research tool for genealogists.
 
One place that had damage from our storm that I forgot to mention was all the brick on the front Old O’Loughlin Motor Company fell off.
 
Our rain last week was 5 inches and 20 hundredths in the east part of town.  We are due for another rain.
 
It was nice to see Marie Brack and LaVerne and Alton Huddleston at the Diabetes Clinic in Ness City on Thursday.
 
McCracken History Notes
September 1910
 
The husky Germans defeated the McCracken basketball team Saturday after forty minutes of hard play and rag-chewing.  The score stood Dutch Hollow 10, McCracken 9.
 
The wind of a few days ago blew the top from the wheat stacks all over the country and since the showers we have been having the wheat is not doing the best in this condition.
 
September 1921
Miss Donecker is teaching the primary room.  Beginners are Bennie Peer, Eva Eno, Arthur Ryan, Sylvia Tiller, Lloyd Lazzzelle, LaVeigyne Lewis, Ralph Tanck, Albert Smith, Henry Marak, Woodrow Hall, Lucille Conner and Sunny Ramsey.

September 1960
Tena Vogle was honored on her birthday at the home of her parents.  Guests were Angela Schaffer, Carolyn and Marilyn Herdman, Martin Higgins, Lavona Peters, LeRoy and Terry Herdman.
 
Malcolm (Diz) Washaliski will teacher this year in the Alexander High School. 
 
Tonight at the Hill-Top drive in at LaCrosse is “A Summer Place” with Richard Egan, Dorothy McGuire, Sandra Dee, Arthur Kennedy and Troy Donahue.  Buck a car night.
 
September 1980
The Foster Brothers Band furnished the music at the third annual McCracken-Ryan-Zeller Pig Roast Sunday afternoon and evening.  Members of the band are Bob Foster, Larry Fatchel, Kenneth and Frank Foster.  Over 500 people attended the end of summer which featured four barbecued pigs and the always popular beer truck.  A dunking booth operated by the MHS cheerleaders raised $205.00 for muscular dystrophy.  An additional $100. was donated from the organizers and the band.
 
Sally Buster has received a B. S. in home economics at Kansas State.
