Judy Hugh and Carolyn Thompson had lunch with Harold and Virginia Kraus on Tuesday. They gave the museum a vending machine from the Chicago Gum and Candy Co., It was a National Self-Service Machine dispensing Mints and Chewing Gum for five cents. The machine was patented on March 26, 1925. It dispensed Wintergreen Mints, Peppermint Mints, Chewing Gum. Fruit Gun, Peppermint Gum and Spearmint Gum. “The candy/gum machine came from the Ward/Wilson Store in McCracken, Kansas. The store closed about 1935-1936. Harold was about four or five years old. I remember that it was a treat to get a candy or gum. Nothing was free. Mom had a shoebox full of IOU's from customers from the area that remained unpaid, causing the store to fail”. Harold G. Kraus The machine has been in the family all these years.

On Wednesday evening members of Second Chance came to the museum to present a check from their proceeds to the Jail/Museum. Those volunteers were Suzanne Randa, Joan Dreher, Shirley Higgins and Gloria Wilson, Trustees and volunteers of the museum accepted a $1,000.00 check to be used to catalog all the items given to the museum over the last fifteen years. Everyone who comes to the Jail/Museum is fascinated with the original Jail cells. Recently Tim Rues found that there is another jail cell like ours although it is just one while we have two adjoining, There is a plaque on the one in Edgerton, Kansas. It says” Original City Jail, Lattice Steel Cage 5' x 6' x 6' Built by the Pauly Jail Company, purchased in June 1902 at a price of $92.15 by the City of Edgerton”. It sits outside in a large park.
