Gladys & Wendell Hinman met Tonya & Wade Hinman & Zaccary; Laura & Ray Wierman, Cindy & Jerod & Jill Herschbach in Salina for lunch on Sat. the 28th. Zac came home with Grandpa & Grandma for the week. On Sunday Gladys & Wendell Hinman & Zac, Sheila & Greg Hinman attended the 100th Anniversary celebration for the First Lutheran Church in LaCrosse. Ellen & Larry Hinman, Cheryl & Sarah were visitors Sunday evening returning from a trip to Las Vegas, where Cheryl, who is a member of a dance team, participated in the nationals. Sarah remained with the grandparents for a week. Wade & Tonya came Saturday, Zac & Sarah returned home with them.
The McCracken swimming pool is now open. They are having aerobic classes Tuesday & Friday evenings beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Clayton Wilson was a Friday evening guest of his mother, Verlene Wilson & Jim Yuri. Bryan & Treva, Audra & Anna Bergquist visited on Sunday.
Marty & Tina Mills placed third in the Sprint Car races at Lexington, Neb. on Sunday eve.
Mike Karlin was a guest of his grandmother, Addie Mills from Monday Wednesday. Marty & Tina Mills visited Tuesday evening.
The bridal shower held for Bailey Ventures, bride elect of Allen Morgan, Saturday afternoon was lovely. A party in Hays Saturday evening was enjoyed by their many friends & relatives.
Babe & Arlene Gilbert motored to Ransom Friday evening where they were joined by Bill and Sharon Lovitt and enjoyed dinner in Wakeeney. The occasion was the 49th wedding anniversary for Bill & Sharon.
Lorraine Ryan and her granddaughter Nicole Ryan enjoyed last Friday and Saturday in Topeka shopping.
Several in the area motored to Knoxville, Ia. this weekend and enjoyed the National car races.

Mildred M. Green, 90, Died August 11, 2007 at Scott County Hospital. She was born June 16, 1917 in Brownell to Arthur and Grace Richardson Sunley. She married Lewis Green in 1934. He died in 2006. Burial was in the Brownell Cemetery.

Cody Kinnier, grandson of Wilfrid and Twila Higgins, is a member of the Lakin Babe Ruth ten to thirteen year olds team. They won State at Independence and last weekend went to an eight State Regional at Independence. It included all the state winners from Kansas to the Canadian border. They lost to Minnesota and Iowa. Rich Higgins is the coach.
Eric Scriven and Deb Gaunt were in Dillon, Colorado recently to attend the Poco concert. They then went to Colorado Springs to visit friends.

If you happen to be in Durango, Colorado, before Labor Day, be sure and drop by the Melodrama in downtown Durango. They have been putting on shows for 46 years, but this is the last year. After each melodrama they put on a Revue, that is just like a Vaudeville show. The entertainers are from all over the nation and the world.
Hannah Auston, 98, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at LaCrosse. She was born November 16, 1908 in Bison to John and Anna Elizabeth Scheuerman Schwindt. She graduated from Utica High School. She married Charles Edward Auston on April 29, 1929 in Lyons. He died May 29, 1983. Survivors include a son, Charles A. Auston, Great Bend; three daughters, Charlene Fink, Hoyt, Joan Grimes, Marco Island, Fla., and Norma J. Teater, Kansas City, Mo; two sisters, Minnie Nicoll, Denver and Ethel Duncan, Hartman, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. A private graveside memorial service was held. She and Charles lived on a farm south of McCracken. The children attended school in Alexander.
The Thompson reunion was held at the LaCrosse City Building on Saturday, August 11. The honored guest was Grace Wheat Walker Thompson, widow of Ralph Thompson. Descendants of Ralph Thompson and Frances Wharton Thompson and Audice Thompson and Ruby Yawger Thompson who attended were Linda and Gary Crain, Eaton, Colorado; Curtis and Joyce Burns and Doris Thompson, Lawrence; Bryan, Cindy, Arthur, Frank, John and Laurel Thompson, Salina; Keith Thompson, Kansas City, Missouri; Rodney Collins and Lisa Thompson-Collins, Houston, Texas; Tracy Clinkscale, Cassady and Kennedy, Thomas and Carol Supanic and Timber, Eudora; Kenneth and Lou Thompson, Bucklin; Ben Thompson, and Carolyn Thompson, McCracken; Kelly and Crystal Thompson and Eva Ehrhardt, Rose Hill; Mike and Susan Keith and Shannon, Ellsworth; Allan and Joyce Thompson, Plainville. Eva is a foreign exchange student from near Berlin, Germany. She is living with Kelly and Crystal for the coming school year. Guests were Robert Mitchell, Topeka and Galen Allen, Great Bend.

August 1887
Two hundred thirty-three names were registered in Hampton Township by the registration board. This gives us a population of at least 600 in the township.
Mr. Curtis of Hampton called last Friday and presented us with one of the largest grasshoppers we ever saw. A perfect Jumbo!
August 1907
Albert E. Burch was born in Scott County, July 6, 1886 and died at the home of his father, F. C. Burch Sunday morning. Burial was in the City Cemetery.
A game of basketball was played between the Locust Grove girls and McCracken last Saturday. Score 20-4 in favor of McCracken. Locust Grove players were Minnie Rodeman, Lena and Hazel Hanel, Mabel Ernst, Ruth and Lillian Curtis. McCracken players were Katie and Beulah Wharton, Hazel Robertson, Mattie Dutton, Hattie Hicks and Dot Thomas.

Susan Reinhardt celebrated her ninth birthday with a party at her home Thursday afternoon. Guests present were Karen Norlin, Joan Pfannenstiel, Jo Fay Gaschler, Linda Irvin and Marvel Ann Huxol. Cake and ice cream were served.
Bill Harper, Raleigh Irvin, Jess Grumbein, Carl Bible, Ivy Irvin and Ray Kleysteuber attended the ball games at Kansas City during the weekend.

MHS cheerleaders attended cheerleading camp at Ft. Hays last week Monday to Friday. Cheerleaders are Cheryl Foreman, Kerri Derr, Sandy Foreman, Laura Unrein and mascot Ellen Davis.
Shannon McKinney upset defending champion Scott Suppes to win the decathlon at the West Kansas Track Club Meet. He scored 4,970 points.

A swim going away party was held Friday by Kristin Harris in honor of Debbie Gaunt who is leaving to join the Air Force. Twenty-five friends attended the party and potluck supper at the Utica swimming pool.
