The McCracken Public Library has received a family history of Edward Lewis McCurry, Sr., Eva Frances Noll and Marcella Jennie Casey. It was prepared for donation to the Public Library, McCracken, Rush County by William David and Katherine Elizabeth (Reynolds) Hand on 15 July, 2014. They visited the library and met Pat Derr and Twila Higgins early in the summer. The ladies provided obituaries to the Hands from the library files. Eva was listed as being buried in McCracken Cemetery, but she was actually buried in Ramsey Cemetery in Ness County. Her son and husband are buried there also.
Blessing of Schoolbags/Backpacks will be held on Sunday August 17 at the McCracken United Methodist Church. Schedule: 11:00 a.m. Blessing of the Schoolbags/ Back Packs: 12:00 noon Hot Dog Lunch, 1:00 P.M. Swim for Free at the McCracken City Pool. All the above is sponsored by the McCracken United Methodist Church. The event is for all children in the McCracken area from pre-school to college. All adult staff members working for area schools are encouraged to come and bring an item they would have like to have blessed for the school year.
Ellen (Edith Moses) Blair has renewed her membership in the Jail/Museum. A donation was received from Ben and Nancy Anderson.

Ryan Mills and fiancé Sarah Johnson are the proud parents of twin boys born August 4 at Truman Hospital in Kansas City. Benjamin Aaron weighed three pounds twelve ounces and Jackson Riley weighed three pounds thirteen ounces. Danny and Marilyn Mills and Lesley Johnson are grandparents. Addie Mills is great-grandmother at long last.

New pupils included Mamie F. and Ora Pearl Barnett, Frankie H. St.John and Faye Thompson. Prospective graduates were Lillian A. Davis and Mabel Thompson.
1900: Elizabeth Hondereck, teacher. Pupils included Lucy Grumbein, Ronnie, George and Oscar Peterson and Bertha and Mabel True. 1911: Viola Green, teacher, $50.00 per month. Pupils included Abram, Wendell and Freddie Ball, Wilbur Bales, Raymond, George and Thomas Meehan, Dewey, McKinley and George M. North, Willie and Lester Ramsey ,Harold and Clifford Temple, Robert and Paul Walker, Mayme and Annie Bales, Eva May North, Florence and Velma Kirkpatrick, May Temple and Inez and May Walker. 1935 - Meeting was held the 31st of May at 3:00 p.m. It was voted to clean the school house and make necessary repairs. It was decided not to hold school the ensuing year and send the students to Redwing. The last students recorded were Ada North, Ruby North, Gerald Hinman, Donald Hinman, Harley Irvin and Thomas Barnes. 1945-46. The sale of the school property netted $739.50. John Allen bought the school house for $730.00. It was moved to LaCrosse.
Addie Mills was a Saturday visitor of Jack Klee at Centennial Towers in Hays. She also visited with Sherrie Langer at Hays Plaza Apartments.
Danny and Marilyn Mills spent the weekend in Kansas City visiting with Ryan and Sarah and the twins. Benjamin and Jackson are at Truman Hospital. Ryan and Sarah are staying at the Ronald McDonald House until the twins are able to come home.
Mary Steitz of La Crosse accompanied Patricia Petz to Dodge City to help at the Central Mall where the vendors participated in the Dodge City Days celebration over the weekend. On Saturday evening, they ate dinner with Bob and Lynn Litson of La Crosse and Martha Donahue and Kathy Mendenhall of Valley Center at the Boot Hill Casino. They all had participated in the two day show at the Mall.
On Sunday, Mary and Pat attended mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe where Father Terrance Klein was officiating mass. Father Klein is a first cousin of Mary's. After mass they came across Margaret Hamilton formerly of La Crosse and they had a very nice visit and ate at the Knights of Columbus Hall where they were serving a delicious benefit breakfast.
Marge and Michele Moran, Clark, Nicole and Maddie Kirk vacationed in Branson the last of this week.
A birthday celebration in honor of Kelly Petz's birthday (August 4), Sandy Oakley's birthday (August 1), and Melanie Petz's birthday (July 23) was held at Gella's Restaurant at Hays. Family members attending were: Wes and Sandy Oakley, Lindsey McCray, Tim and Kristian Nunnery and family, Seth and Brandi Oakley and family, Kelly and Melanie Petz and family, and Patricia Petz. The celebration concluded at Wes and Sandy Oakley's with birthday cake.
Those helping to mow St. Mary's Cemetery for the 4th time were Hoop and Twila Higgins, Don Bergquist and Bet McCormick. Thanks again. It means a lot to have such wonderful help.
Chuck Higgins and Tanner Higgins returned home Friday after 3 weeks of insurance adjusting in the McCook, St. Francis and Colby areas.
Sarah Urban was honored with a bridal shower August 2nd, 2014 at Gellas Diner and LB Brewering Company in Hays, KS. The shower was given by her sister Rachel Legleiter and Carla Emerson. The Bride to be wore a lovely coral dress, refreshments were served and a couple of fun games were played. The Bride to be opened many wonderful and useful gifts.

John and Melanie Zeller traveled to Topeka on Friday, August 8th to have a weekend visit with Delvin and Donna Jay. We celebrated Donnas birthday which was Friday. We did a lot of visiting, eating, and shopping. Saturday evening we all went to see the Ben Miller Band which was performing at Uncle Bos in Topeka. Sunday, before heading home, we stopped to visit with Cathy Casey and family.
Carolyn and Shirley attended the Firemans Picnic in Timken Saturday evening. The meal they served was awesome; those ladies at Timken are wonderful cooks and know how to put out a spread. There were a large amount of donated items raffled. The band Off Duty played for entertainment, lots oflocal talent. Members Saturday evening were Rex Klitzke, Zoe Albers, Ward Corsair, Leroy Penke, Bill Albers, Bill Dechant, Ron Brenner and our own Floyd Norlin! We made it home just as it started to rain.
There were 19 players, 9 1&Mac218;2 teams, at the 2 person scramble golf tournament held Sunday, August 10 at the McCracken Golf Club. The dinner served was provided by Rose, Sue and Norma and everyone else that helped. Thanks to these ladies. 1st place winners were Tony and Butch Harp; 2nd place winners were Bryan and Taylor Yohe; and 3rd place winners were Ken Foster and Sean Peters. Closest to the pin, Chad Oberhelman; Longest drive, Butch Harp and Longest putt Taylor Yohe. The next tournament will be held August 31, Labor Day weekend, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Mark it on your calendar!!
Jerry Higgins attended a volleyball supervisors meeting in Topeka Sunday. John, Tammy & Jerry played golf at Prairie Dunes on Saturday. Tammy wouldnt tell her score!! Jodi, Jenna and Tanner spent several days this week in Plano and San Antonio, Texas.

John Stull went to Hays Monday and enlisted in the Air Force. He will leave Thursday.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Billy Cole, California, who are the parents of a daughter born July 28, 1954.
Mary Lydia Schutte Audas, 64, died Thursday at Moline, Illinois. She was a sister of Amelia Schutte Start of McCracken.
Elizabeth Marak Sweeney, 55, died in a Salina hospital July 23, 1954. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. W.P. Moran, Mrs. Frank McCormick and Mrs. James McCormick all of McCracken. Her husband, Hugh Sweeney died in 1947.
Sale of land in the Joe Waudby estate, northeast of Alexander sold July 20, 1954. 320 acres went to Vincent Moran for $25,100; the remaining 180 acres to Paul Nitsch for $13,280. Roberta Anderson and Reed Bullock announce their engagement.
Beverly Irvin and R.M. Washaliski left Friday on a fishing trip to Gunnison, Colorado.
Cynthia Hayes and Mae Schutte visited friends in Alexander Wednesday evening.
