LOOKING BACK:  August 1951
McCracken and the Liebenthal areas were hit with torrential rains ranging from 3 to 7 inches which caused floods along Big Timber Creek.  Water came into McCracken and reached into the east side of Liebenthal.  Edmund Casey, employee of Albert North who lives north of McCracken on a Big Timber spur, was washed off the road in his car Thursday night.  Casey, who can’t swim, was rescued after he had roosted on the car top for two hours, by Alvin Janke and Joe Malotke, both of McCracken.  The North home was flooded.  Other homes which received water damage were those of Chester Rogers, two miles east of McCracken and Ed Allberts, who live north of Hargrave.  Water surrounded homes in north and east McCracken.
