Items donated to the Jail/Museum by Marlene Funk and Arlene Gilbert: An early country school picture in 1897 The teacher was 18 year old Anna Darkes: Students Jim Rixon, Clarence Peer, Maggie Rixon, Josie Rixon, Zettie Rixon, Ethel Peer, Emma Grumbein, Lizzie Nichol, May Rixon, Dell Purcell, Ada Metz, Tena Rixon, Tom Metz, Alta King, Cleo Purcell, Ora Howard and Peter Metz. Students not pictured were Jim Sadler, Bessie Barr, Geo. Joseph, Flora Joseph, Jim Sadler, Sebre Howard, Martha Metz and Bill Metz. A dinner picture includes Jack Wilson, Paul Wilson, Joe Casey, Frank and Drewie McGaughey and an unknown couple; a 50th Anniversary picture of the McCracken Parade - written on back “Paul Wilson has on a white shirt and black hat. Jack is on the back behind Paul. Jack thinks he is important that day”; A picture of the 50th anniversary band; two poems by Grace Metz, one entitled 'My Hands and I' and the other 'Dreams the Dynamo of Destiny'; a 1972 calendar of Bruchie's Fine Furniture in LaCrosse; a youthful picture of Lyle Farwell; a picture of Grandpa and Grandma Darkes, Mr. Holdgate, Grandpa Stephens and Mr. and Mrs. North; six ladies and a gentleman; a tribute from the newspaper in memory of Bert Juvenal who died September 20,1944 entitled' Our Dad' from Mrs. J. R. Juvenal and family; a framed letter from Donald L. Buster, City Attorney, regarding the swimming pool. The cost of the project was $70,000.00 with federal matching funds paying half and the other $35,000.00 would be raised by general obligation bonds. The letter was urging voters to exercise their right to vote at the election and that the bond would raise the mill level by 1 mill.

The 1953 birthday calendar mentioned last week was sponsored by the McCracken Methodist Church.
Addie Mills was a Saturday overnight and Sunday visitor of Cellie Klee and son Jay at their home on Council Grove City Lake. Cellie's, daughter Patty Schmitt and her husband Tom of Glenwood, Iowa, came Sunday afternoon
Those attending the 68th High Plains Music Camp at Fort Hays State Unversity from July 12 to July 18 were high schoolers Sierra Burk, Cole Pierce and Taylor Morgan, LaCrosse; Analinda Hyatt and Addie Kershner, Rush Center and Shannon Keith, Ellsworth. Junior High members from LaCrosse were Ethan-Epperson-Seib, Maggie Haas, Dalton Janosek, Kinley Morgeau and Mason Peters; Andrew Hyatt, McKylie Lorl and Katrina Jacobs, Rush Center; Kassandra Pechanec, McCracken; Matthew Frick,Nekoma.

Bobye Montonye, Castleton, was a Friday through Sunday guest of Carolyn Thompson, Ben Thompson and Mike,Susan and Shannon Keith. She attended her first rodeo.

I had just finished last week’s news when I lost it...had to do it all over and forgot the winners in the Alumni golf tournament. Championship flight; Teams of Allen Morgan, Mitch Keeley and Dylan Gross; 1st flight Trevor Pfannenstiel, Tim Booze, Brad Launchbaugh; 2nd flight Martin & Tony; 3rd flight Chad Foust, Jared Sanders.

Carol Heiman, Carolyn Thompson and Shirley Higgins motored to Great Bend Wednesday where they enjoyed lunch with Sister Martina Stegman. She left for her home in Oxford, MI on Sunday.

Our swimming pool was trashed Friday night, rodeo weekend. Tables, chairs, buckets of chemicals, bottles, etc. were thrown in the pool. I want someone to tell me how much fun they had doing this. Doesn’t anyone have respect anymore?? Doesn’t look like it.

Roy and Phyllis Conrad attended the 15th birthday for Zack Peach. He had a very unusual birthday cake; it looked like a real hamburger stacked with cheese slices, onions, tomatoes and lettuce. It was about 12 inches high and as round as a pie plate. Congrats Zack.

John & Janice returned recently from a trip to Colorado. Craig & Julie Stull, Kaitlyn Stull, Matt & Kara Stull and Hank the dog were guests during the rodeo. On Sunday John and Janice attended the Stull reunion in Bucklin.

Once again St. Mary's Cemetery looks great, Thanks to the helping hands of Hoop Higgins, Don Bergquist, Bet & Jeanette McCormick, Roy & Phyllis Conrad while the men did all the mowing Jeanette and Phyllis trimmed around the stones.

Sanford Foreman was a guest at the home of his daughter in LaCrosse, Kellye and Sandy Irvin.

July 1954 Virgil Cofer, Ransom, drove a power driven lawn mower to Washington, DC. LeeRoy Schuckman followed in a pickup truck and brought him home. It was a promotion for the mower that Virgil manufactured. Miss Connie Howard, Casper, Wyoming has been visiting the past two weeks visiting with her aunt, Lucille Reinardt and family and assisting Everett in his store.A $30,000 issue to voters on primary ballot for a county repair shop. 2/Lt. John Elmore who had been in Korea for the past year arrived at San Francisco, California the last of the week. His wife, Wanda Elmore flew from Tulsa to California to meet him. Thurman Manos, Miami, Oklahoma spent ten days working in the harvest field here returned home Friday. Albert Davenport is a patient at St. Elizabeth’s hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is being treated for burns which he received while welding a gas tank which exploded. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Higgins who are the parents of a son born July 9, 1954 in Rush County Hospital. He has been named Keith Michael. John Stull went to Hays Monday and enlisted in the Air Force. He will leave Thursday. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Billy Cole, California, who are the parents of a daughter born July 28, 1954. Mary Lydia Schutte Audas, 64, died Thursday at Moline, Illinois. She was a sister of Amelia Schutte Start of McCracken
