The posters are printed for the McCracken Rodeo, there is an error about the dinner on Saturday.  There is a dinner both at Boondocks Bar and Grill in downtown McCracken, plus dinner at the Community Center beginning 12:30.   
 
Martin, Mary, Joe and Cyndi Higgins spent the Memorial Day weekend in their home in McCracken.  They had a great time visiting with friends around town.  On Saturday afternoon they went to John and Melanie Zeller's for a wonderful cook-out with the other family members.  Everyone enjoyed the food, as most of you all know what a wonderful cook Melanie is!  One always knows that whatever she makes is THE BEST!  They attended the Memorial Day ceremonies at both cemeteries.  Cyndi was very impressed with the Legion program that Bill conducts.  She said she's never seen a ceremony that nice.  People from back home in PA do the flower thing but she'd never seen a Legion ceremony that nice.  See --- there really are things in good old McCracken that impress people! 
 
Memorial Weekend Dinner guests of John & Sharon Irvin were Dennis & Susan Walker, Brian Walker of Dalhart TX, Penny Betz of Bazine, Vicky Overley of Antonino, Lance & Jessie Irvin of Wichita, and Kayla & Allen Casey of Topeka.
 
Charlotte Hopper, former wife of Charles Hopper, died May 25, 2010 in Sun City, California.  She is survived by her children William, Connie and Joyce.
 
Guests of Rose and Les Diehl were college ‘chums’ Nancy & Richard Baker, Lynette Kieffer, Manhattan; Sue Schuster, Lafayette, Colorado, and Chi Chi Myers, Iowa.  It had been 30 years since they were all together.  A GOOD time was had by all.
 
Memorial weekend guests of Priscilla Jacobs were Neal, Amy and Tessa Jacobs.
 
Will Rues was seen riding his bicycle without help. . Congrats!
 
John Jerome Langdon and Ernie Langdon both received their 50 year Masonic Lodge pins this Saturday.  There are four generations of Langdons who are Masons. 
 
Zach Higgins, a 2010 graduate of Hoisington High School, was named to the 4A baseball all state second team as an infielder.  He will play in an all-star game Wednesday, June 9 at K-State in Manhattan.  Zach was named first team out-fielder for the MCAA all-league team.
 
Marilyn Hopper called about the death of Charlotte Hopper and she said she had political puppies.  Ellie Mae, a blue tic coon hound is a Democrat; Toby Lee, a Chihuahua is a Republican and Bensen Ray, a terrier is an Independent.  Bensen is a survivor of the Greensburg tornado.
 
A 10th birthday party was held for Antone Foust at the home of his grandmother, Terrie Lasater and Mitch Jacobs on Wednesday.  Guests were his parents Chad Foust and Crystal Ryan, Priscilla Jacobs, Sandra Jacobs and Sean Peters.
 
Robert and Linda Weatherly, Iowa, were Memorial weekend guests of their son, Chad Weatherly.
 
Marge Sloan has been a guest of her daughter, Roger and Norma McNair this past week.
 
Chuck Higgins and Susan Bednasek enjoyed dinner and ‘much’ visiting on Thursday evening.
 
Sandra Jacobs had surgery on her foot Thursday morning in Hays.
 
Jerry Higgins, Jenna and her friend Quinn; Kevin Brening and Konner were Saturday over night guests of Shirley Higgins. The girls were playing basketball in a MAYB tournament in Hays Saturday and Sunday.
 
We had a great golf tournament Sat June 5th. First place the guys were from Kansas City Brent, Rolo, and Troy thank you for joining us. Second place Arkie McNair, Tony Harp, Sean Peters; Longest drive Brent; Longest putt Allen Morgan. We now have $144 in the “hole in one” pot so maybe next time ladies and gentlemen you may be the winner. Next chance is at the Glow Ball Friday night June 18th.The tournament will take place after dark and the fee is $35 per person. Please come and have some great fun!
 
It was nice to see Eunice North at Boondocks on Sunday noon.  She had lunch with Arlyn and Jan North.
 
Memorial weekend guests of Francis and Roberta Wierman were George and Marilyn Sommers, Silver Lake; Ray Wierman.  Visitors Sunday were Neal and Pat Ochs, Villa Rica, Georgia; Alverna Humburg, LaCrosse; Jill and Joey Herschback, Kansas City, Missouri; Cindy Wierman, Olathe; Laura Wierman and Jennifer Wierman, Bennington.  Monday May 31st all enjoyed the 90th birthday reception for Alverna Humburg at WaKeeney, Kansas.
 
Congratulations to Hung and Tran Pham, Hays, on their 25th wedding anniversary, June 19.   They will celebrate with their sons, Christopher and Kevin of Lawrence in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.  They were married June 8, 1985 in Phillipsburg.
 
Roy and Phyllis Conrad dismantled the Jail/Museum sunflower for re-painting.  Roy sanded down the stock and he and Phyllis hand painted every leaf and sunflower.  If you want something done of highest quality ask the hardest working couple in the community.  The late Pat Istas was the designer of the sunflower and the other art work downtown.  You can look at all the artwork on Google Earth.
 
Gerald Crotinger sent information regarding the Robbins and Reams.  Sarah Salome Ream Crotinger was married to his great-grandfather’s brother, Albert O. Crotinger of Bison.  She is buried in Locust Hill Cemetery in Rush Center.

Bruce F. is buried in McCracken Cemetery.
Bruce F. Robbins married Alice Adelia Hyde 22 Oct 4 1868 in McKean Co, Pennsylvania. She was born 1 Mar 1850, McKean Co, Pennsylvania, d. 7 May 1933, Alexander, Kansas.
 
Bruce and Alice had 5 children,

Marge Moran hosted the 3rd birthday party for her granddaughter, Madison Kirk, on Saturday, June 3.  Guests were John, Ellen and Josh Moran, Jason Moran, Michele Moran and Madison’s parents, Clark and Nicole Kirk.  On Sunday Marge’s cousin, Jerry and Carol Horacek of Tulsa, Oklahoma were visitors.  On Monday the family ate at Boondocks.  Those attending were Bill Potter, Junction City; Jeff and Peggy Renz, Kansas City; Tim Potter and friend, Omaha; Marge Morgan, Michele Moran, Jason Moran and Clark, Nicole and Madison Kirk.
 
The Swimming Pool Committee is grateful for the turnout at the Memorial Day dinner at the City Building.  Keeping the pool open and in pristine shape for the patrons of McCracken and the area was a goal of the late Laura Linsey.  The committee wishes to keep her legacy going.  Not only were they successful in preparing a delicious meal, the funds will go to this great cause. 
 
McCracken History Notes:
June 1910
 
Dr. Dutton was thrown from a buggy and quite badly bruised up Sunday.  He and James Hardwick were driving along in the west part of town when an automobile passed at a rapid speed.  The team became unmanageable and turned the buggy over.  Both occupants were more or less injured.
 
Clay Farwell sold his 160 acre farm just east of town this week to Mr. L. F. Hunt, the consideration being $45 per acre.

Elmore Ryan, who attended Washburn College at Topeka last winter, is home to spend the summer.
 
Mr. and Mrs. R. W. VanWinkle and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Irvin and son spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tanck of Ness City.

Gladys Hinman was honored with a surprise coffee and handkerchief shower in Albert on Sunday.  The Hinmans have moved to Brownell.
 
A bridal shower was held for Mrs. Harley Tanck Wednesday evening at Jean’s café in McCracken.

Kim McCormick has been initiated into Kappa Delta Pi, national honor society in education.
 
Randy Taylor graduated from St. Mary of the Plains on Saturday evening.
