Gerald Crotinger had a nice visit with Mark Wayne Crotinger and his wife Terry on Tuesday last week. Mark is a grandson of James Crotinger who was the baker in McCracken in the 30s and married Millia Wilson of McCracken. Mark is a Baptist Minister in Show Low, Artizona. They were on their way home from visiting a daughter in Ohio.
Congratulations to great-grandparents, Ervin and Helen Koerner and Frances Casey on the birth of a great-granddaughter, Kinsley Marie Casey, daughter of Justin and Megan Casey of Plainville born April 6, 2012 at Hays. Grandparents are Jerry and Karen Casey.
Congratulations to Father Ultan Murphy and Father Eugene Kenny on the anniverary of their ordination.
Two events happened this week in the wheat harvest - one of the earliest in history. One field was cut on the Rush/Ness county line and one was partially burned, adjacent to each other. What is the probability of that?
Ellsworth varsity basketball team participated in the 2012 Hays Round Ball Classic at Fort Hays on Saturday and Sunday. Teams in the 11th/12th division were Quinter Bulldogs, Ellsworth Lady Cats, Kansas Dream Team, Hays Indians, Hoxie Indians, Ashland Stars, St. John Tigers and Hill City. The Kansas Dream Team won the A Bracket against Hoxie. Ellsworth won the B Bracket against Ashland.
LuAnna Hawkins of Utah called. She is doing research on the Nickel-Nichol families of Hampton Township. She plans to come the end of August to visit the Nickel Cemetery and continue her research.

Memorial week end guests of Gladys & Wendell Hinman were Ellen & Larry Hinman & Sarah; Wade & Zac Hinman; Sheila & Greg Hinman and Jessica Hinman. Carolyn Helmer was here to take part in her 50th class reunion of LaCrosse High School.
A make shift swimming pool was open Friday afternoon on north 4th street. Brad, John and Tayler were swimming and playing in the ditch of water. They were waiting for warm weather when the McCracken pool opened.
Larry Hinman was a guest of his parents Gladys & Wendell Hinman over the week end and all attended the wedding of Veronica (Baus) and Daniel Himple.
Guests of Arky and Diana McNair over the weekend were Curtis McNair, Ali and Mal and Cliff Lamont from Colorado.
Tammy Irvin and Kayla Weskamp were Sunday overnight guests of Shirley Higgins.
I attended the Relay for Life brunch Sunday at the LaCrosse High School and will share just a couple of news items you may not have known about what the American Cancer Society does. The High Plains Division includes the states of Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Hawaii. In 2011 the web sits, cancer.org, was visited 5,134 times each day by people in the High Plains Division; 403 children with cancer attended summer camps last year; 403 children with cancer attended summer camps last year and 99 childhood cancer survivors were awarded scholarships worth $50,000 last year with 10 recipients in Kansas.
The shelter house in the park has been re-roofed with a metal roof; new windows and siding have been added. Drive by very slowly and look at the improvements. This project was mainly funded by the McCracken Alumni Association. A new little freezer was bought for the kitchen in the Community Building. This is what your dues and memorials do for the McCracken Community.
Clark, Nicole and Madison Kirk and John, Ellen and Josh Moran, Jason Moran and Micheli Moran were guests of Marge Moran for the Memorial weekend. On Sunday they celebrated the fifth birthday of Madison Kirk. .
The Wichita Eagle published The Kansas "Bucket List" in their May 27th newspaper edition. Boondocks Bar and Grill, McCracken made the list. The article said

Gary Musselman, Executive Director of the KSHSAA recently awarded Central Christian School of Hutchinson an Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. Melvin Barnett is athletic director of the school. Congratulations.
McCracken Sports History
1942
The McCracken Grade School basketball teams, led by Jimmie Higgins and Glenn Conner, defeated the Otis Grades Tuesday, 34-11. Eight of the McCracken Midgets figured in the scoring. E. Koerner, playing his first game, showed up well for the home boys.
1942
The McCracken high school basketeers dropped another contest last Friday night at Bazine 49-22. The McCracken seconds, led by Bob Rhoades, plowed under the Bazine seconds 36-18. Rhoades collected 18 counters, 11 of them in the final quarter.
