Memorial weekend guests of Francis & Roberta Wierman were: Marilyn Sommers of Silver Lake, Shane, Jill, Ivan & Tessa Brethowr of Olathe, KS. Sunday visitors were Joey, Jill, Brayden, Hailey Herschbach & Cindy Wierman of Liberty, MO, and Bill Wierman Jr & his son William of Hays and Ray Wierman.
I was travelling near Black Wolf last week and went by a two story country home with a big chimney. On the top of the chimney was a live peacock - impressive sight
Michele & Marge just got back from a British Isle Cruise. They saw the sights of Paris including stops at the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral. They toured the Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. There were also stops in Invegordon, Orkney Islands and Glasgow in Scotland. Stops in Ireland were in Belfast, Dublin and Cork. They toured the Guinness Storehouse and the Blarney Castle while in Ireland. The countryside was green and plush with wheat and canola fields.
The rosary leaders at St. Mary's Cemetery on Memorial Day are members of the Faith Sharing group at St. Mary's. Those helping with the rosary were Phyllis Conrad, Shirley Higgins, Twila Higgins, Jeanette McCormick, Jean Schutte and Carolyn Thompson.
McCracken's city population was estimated to be 185 by the U. S. Census Bureau in 2012.

John, Ellen and Josh Moran, Great Bend; Nicole, Clark and Madison Kirk, Burrton; Michele Moran and Jason Moran, Rush Center, were weekend guests of Marge Moran. They celebrated Madison's sixth birthday.
Michele, Ellen and Marge went to Burrton on Saturday for Madison's birthday party. She celebrated all week.
Memorial Weekend Lynn Kochenower was in eastern Kansas, near Olathe to visit family. They attended the Williamsburg School Reunion with her grandmother, Katherine Kochenower, age 99, a graduate. Another senior citizen attending the reunion was the vo-ag teacher, Andy Anderson, 101. Lynn was joined by her parents , Pat and Floyd Kochenower, her brother, Fred Kochenower and sisters Diane and Ginger. There were also five great-grandchildren In attendance.
Mary Ann Tanking of Salina has given genealogical information on the Lindblom family to the Jail/Museum. The family included Oscar and Mamie (Mary Lottie) Lindblom and children Lewis, Elva and Walton. When they moved to Ness County it took two train carloads to bring their belongings. In order for Elva to attend Miss Brown's Finishing School, they moved back to Chicago in 1892-93. Then they came home to the farm. They next moved to Kingssville, Texas in 1911-12. Oscar died in 1941 and is buried in Germantown Cemetery north of Kensington or Athol. Eva and her husband Seth Wilson are also buried there. Lewis Lindbloom married Daisy Robertson. One picture shows the large farm house west of McCracken in Ness County. Mary Ann also included the ancestry of William Henry Campbell, Senior and Malinda Randall. William Henry Campbell, Junior married Lucetta E. Ball.

McCracken Country Club is hosting a 2 person scramble Sunday, June 9th. Tee off time is 8:00 a.m. and the fee is $100 per team. Lunch will be available.
Jacob Townsend has joined the Kansas Army National Guard. He began his basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina on May 28th. He will finish the combat training this summer and then return to Fort Hays State University in the fall. Next summer, he will return to Fort Jackson for job training.
Megan Townsend is in Guinea until the end of the year. Guinea is trying to hold elections for the first time in three years, so there is a lot of political unrest right now.
Memorial weekend guests of Gladys & Wendell Hinman were Larry Hinma, Laura & Ray Wierman, Jennifer Wierman, Cindy Wierman, Jill & Joey Herschbach, Hailey & Brayden ;Greg & Sheila Hinman, Jessica Hinman and Carolyn Helmer.On Sunday,they all attended the Wagner family reunion held in LaCrosse .
Gladys & Wendell Hinman attended the graduation ceremonies of their grand daughter Jennifer Wierman, Oklahoma State in Stillwater,Ok.; granddaughter Sarah Hinman, Shawnee Mission High School ,Lenexa ,Ks.,and grandaughter Cheryl Hinman ,Columbia College, Chicago, IL.
On Tuesday, May 14th, Angie and Trent Timson of McPherson, Kansas became the proud parents of a new baby boy, Grant Ellis. He was born at the Hutchinson Hospital at 6:48 am. He weighed in at 8 pounds and 13 ounces and was 191/2" long. He was greeted by his two brothers Tyler and Drake. Grant's grandparents are Danny and Patricia Petz of Mc Cracken and Fred and Joyce Timson of Tucson, Arizona. His Great Grandmother is Dolores Petz of Mc Cracken and Great Grandparents Leland and Mary Steitz of La Crosse.
Roy Conrad watched the spelling bee to improve his spelling
Katelyn Engel and Taylor Doornbos performed 3 dances each in Styles Dance Centre's recital on Saturday night at Beach Schmidt. Audrey Irvin, daughter of Chad & Amber Irvin performed in 6 dances. Shirley Harp, Carl & Velma Legleiter, and Paulette Harp were in attendance along with Don and Lynnette Doornbos.
On Saturday, June 1st, Patricia Petz was inducted into the Kansas Teacher's Hall of Fame in Dodge City, with the rest of the class of 2013. Mrs. Arlene Gilbert introduced Pat to the audience and gave an outstanding presentation. Those in attendance were her husband, Danny and their children and grandchildren: Kelly and Melanie Petz and son Kameron of Hays, and Trent and Angie Timson, and their sons, Drake and Grant of Mc Pherson. Others attending were: Leland and Mary Steitz, Babe and Arlene Gilbert, John and Rita Liggett, Maurice and Debbie Haas, Benny and Ardis Viegra, Carl and Velma Legleiter, Ray and Joyce Whipple, and Wally and Cora Lee Thornburg. Three former teachers of Healy Grade School to help Pat celebrate her special day were Mrs. Cora Lee Thornburg of Utica was her 1st grade teacher, Mr. Dennis Doris of Dodge City was her second and third grade teacher, and Mrs. Mary Lou Doris of Dodge City was her fourth and fifth grade teacher. A fun-filled day was enjoyed by all!
Martin and Mary Higgins, Lenexa, were Saturday overnight guests of Les and Rose Diehl in Topeka. They ate at the Bone Appetit fundraising event hosted by the Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka.

A son, Randy Allen, has been born June 14 to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Conrad.
The 1963 wheat harvest is over. The average is close to 15 bushels an acre. The eastern half of the county averaged 22-23 bushels while the McCracken area was 12-15.
Doug Whitis is spending the summer with his sister, Mrs. Phil Carver & family in Albuquerque.
Mary Ann Zeller was visited by her pen pal from Hawaii last week, Frances Kuwaye. They started corresponding in the sixth grade, 6 years ago.
