Wednesday Larry Calvery, Corporate Support Representative, Smoky Hills Public Television, was here to visit the Jail/Museum in regard to Paper Moon. He worked for Paramount Pictures when they were here filming the movie. He bought an American Road Magazine that had the article about Paper Moon. He had previously downloaded it on his computer. He was most interested in the Nehi pop bottle that was given to the museum by Lucy Vogle.
Dennis Poland and Shannon McKinney were in town on Thursday to put flowers on Bill McKinney's grave and flags on his friends' graves - Don Buster, Vic Higgins, Floyd Thompson and Lonnie Irvin. They visited Ben Thompson, Carolyn Thompson and Shirley Higgins.

Chuck and Sue Mulroy and Mary Rold of San Antonio, Texas, were in McCracken Wednesday to do genealogy on the Mulroys and McKittricks families. They toured St. Marys Cemetery as well as the Hampton and the old homesteads in Ness County. They were impressed with St. Marys Church and took pictures of the interior.
Roy Langdon and his step daughter Morgan attended the Kentucky Derby and Oaks at Church Hill Downs, Kentucky. Its been the official site of the event since 1875.
Katelyn Engel placed second in the Hays Middle School talent competition. Congrats Katelyn.
West-Burch American Legion Post 59 conducted the Memorial Day Services at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery and McCracken City Cemetery. Bill Zeller led the services. Honor Guard members were Kenneth Foster, Richard Showalter and Bob Fear, Firing Squad included Dennis Elias, Tony Harp, Gary Barnes, Martin Higgins, Babe Gilbert, Bob Funk and Jake Tomlinson. Lynnette Doornbos recited Flanders Field and Kerri Morgan did the Answer to Flanders Field. Arlene Gilbert led the Choir. Wilfrid Higgins and Bet McCormick were honorary members. Sally Jacobs sounded Taps.
Memorial weekend guests of Al and Judy Hugh were their family from Houston, Texas, Mike and Stacey Milam, T. J. Milam and his friend Jackie, Valerie and Johanna Milam.
Karen Scheideman Weissenfluh, 76, died May 14, 2015 from cancer. She was born in Hays to Sylvester and Lorraine Scheideman. She spent her younger years in McCracken, moving to Colorado in her teens. Her parents and sister, LuAnne Mathias all preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Ken, her sons Kirk and Kent and 6 grandchildren.
There will be a McCracken Golf Tournament on Sunday, June 14th at 8:30 a.m., 3 person scramble $75.00 per team. Lunch will be served for the public as well as the golfers. For more information call 785-394- 1048
Grant and Jodene Dawson Helmer stopped at Charlies station Friday afternoon on their way to Hoisington to visit with Robert and Mary Beth Higgins.
It was wonderful once again to have Mass at St Mary's church for Memorial week-end. A very special "Thank You" to Father Matthew Kumi for officiating the Mass for us. Those helping to make the Mass possible were Pam Pavlu, Lector; Shannon Keith, Server; Don and Deanna Bergquest, Gifts; Bet McCormick and Paul Pavlu, Ushers; Susan Keith, Organist; Michele Moran, song leader; Carolyn Thompson and Phyllis Conrad, Rosary. Helping to set-up for Mass were Twila Higgins and Michele Moran. Mass Intention was For Living and Deceased members of St. Mary's.
Dressing up St Mary's Cemetery for Memorial week-end were Bet and Jeanette McCormick and Hoop and Twila Higgins.
Memorial weekend guests of Shirley Higgins were Tammy Irvin, Chuck, Zach, Jerry and Tanner Higgins.
WE were blessed with much needed rain and hard work from many community members resulting in the cemeteries looking wonderful for the Memorial Day ceremonies. A huge thank you to everyone who helped. The newly added cemetery directory at St. Marys Catholic cemetery is a wonderful addition made possible by the time and effort of George and Marilyn Wierman Sommers.
Roy and Phyllis Conrad attended the 8th grade graduation ceremonies at Wilbur Middle School in Wichita, May 21. Their granddaughter, Ashleigh Allen was one of the 300 graduates. She received a certificate in citizenship; excellence award in math, reading and history, an excellence in music (choir) and all city 8th grade honor orchestra.

Mrs. Cecilia Lewant joined the teaching staff at MHS to teach band and chorus in the Junior and Senior High School.
Terry Seltmann teaches science in the junior senior high school.
Mark Miller introduced some new classes into the mathematics department for the 1975-1976 school year.
Galen Schmidtberger returned for his second year as drivers education instructor.
