Jametta Basgall, Tonya and Todd Basgall, Sean Key, Leslie Morgan, Amanda and Jeremy Morgan Lavona Suppes and Shirley Higgins enjoyed supper Wednesday evening at the Café. Sean Peters joined them later in the evening.
Congratulations to Jaden Jacobs on his graduation from Wichita State University Saturday morning. Jaden majored in business. Attending the exercises were Priscilla Jacobs, Sean Peters, Sandra Jacobs, Mitchell Jacobs, Terrie Lasater, Antone and Kaden Foust.
Congratulations to Bailey Morgan who graduated from Fort Hays State University on Saturday majoring in Elementary Education.
Roy & Phyllis Conrad along with Albert & Louice Zordel of Ransom spent the
weekend in Lamar, Colo. Chris Zordel and wife, Rhonda from Spearville
competed in the Wild West Barbque cookoff in Lamar, Colo. Chris placed 5th
place in brisket. A total of 27 competed in the cookoff. Chris and Rhonda
go by the name," Smell What's' Cooken", and "Four Legs Up" from Great Bend
were the only two from Kansas who competed. The others were all from Colo.
with one team from Florida.
Congratulations to Zach Higgins who graduated from Hoisington High School Sunday afternoon. Attending the exercises were relatives and friends.
Our sympathy to Leigh Ann and Mark Brackney, Brooke McClellan, Mikaela Brackney, Trace Brackney and Beau Brackney on the death of Leigh Anns mother, Phyllis L. Powell.
St. Marys Faith Sharing has completed their year. Those who participated were Jean Schutte, Twila Higgins, Joann Micheli, Arline Rues, Jeanette McCormick, Shirley Higgins, Phyllis Conrad and Carolyn Thompson. Father Rene Labrador was a frequent guest and mentor. The group will begin again in the Fall.
Memorial Day Services, Monday, May 31, will be held at St. Marys Cemetery. Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Father Rene. Military service will follow by McCrackens West-Burch Post No. 59 of the American Legion.
St. Marys Catholic Church, McCracken will have mass on Saturday, May 29, Memorial weekend at 4:00 P.M. with Father Kraus, Presiding. All are welcome.
Arlene Gilbert, director of the choir for Memorial Day, is requesting singers for St. Marys Cemetery and McCracken City Cemetery.
The tank battery southwest of town is gone. We understand that there was a break in a pipeline.
On Mothers Day, John, Ellen and Josh Moran took Marge and Michele Moran and Shirley Endsley to dinner in Great Bend.
McCracken History Notes
May 1910
All nature is smiling now. We have had showers this week which in all amounted to more than an inch and everything out of doors is growing with leaps and bounds.
W. T. Ryan, agent, hands us this: In making out my oil report for the month of April, I find that McCracken used more oil and gasoline by 970 gallons than Brownell, Alexander, Nekoma and Hargrave all together.
P. H. McKittrick closed the deal on his farm southeast of town this week and will give possession after harvest. He is thinking of going to Great Bend to make his home.
May 1920
Lovina Higgins died May 20. A Requiem Mass was sung with Mrs. Zeller in charge of the choir.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Casey, Jr. are the parents of a fine baby girl born Thursday, May 20.
May 1940
Mrs. Archie (Mary) Ott, of Washington, D. C., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Start, was a guest at the White House on Saturday. She received this recognition because of her work in the registration for the Democratic Party.
August C. English is completely redecorating the interior of his K-T service station, adding greatly to the appearance.

Louise Gerritzen twisted her ankle while walking home from the store Saturday evening resulting in a broken bone.

The Silver Jubilee of father Rory ONeill was observed on Sunday, May 25 with a concelebrated Mass. A reception and supper followed.
Kellye Irvin and Laura Unrein were honored by the Kansas High School Activities Association.
