Dave and Carolyn Davenport attended Katie Elias dance recital at Colby last week. They visited Tina Harris and Quintin on their way to Colby. They experienced their first snow storm IN MAY while visiting Travis and family. Hailee Scheez, daughter of Jerod and Stacy Schuckman Scheez performed as well. Hailee is the granddaughter of Donnie Schuckman.
Marjorie Davenport is in the Hutchinson Hospital with pneumonia.
Lenora Stremel spent Mother's Day with Carolyn and Dave Davenport. Shirley Bundy and Art Behrman were guests for dinner.
Dennis Peters just returned May 6, from a week in Italy with his daughter Sherrina and her husband Mario and grandsons Lorenzo (8) and Christian (6). Mario is a Captain on the Italian Ship version of the USS Constitution (69 meters long and 10 meters wide, with 3 Mask). He was able to take us all on board and we set sail for 3 hours in the Mediterranean. What an awesome treat!!! Other than that, they didnt do anything special but spend some fun times with his family. His says his grandsons are growing so fast.

Angela Morgan participated in the Central Plain League track meet held last week in Hoisington. She placed 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles; 5th in the 300 meter hurdles and 1st in the relay with Lacey Reifschneider, Brianne Sanders and Olivia Keeley.
Dennis Peters will be in Kansas the weekend of the 17th and 18th to attend the graduation of Russells youngest, Shawna Peters, from Otis-Bison and Blake Peters, son of Kerri Peters and grandson of Bob Peters from Great Bend.
Jenna Higgins attended a field trip to Topeka on May 7th with her dad, Jerry, accompanying the class on the bus. They toured the Capitol and went to the top of the dome which she thought was pretty cool. On the way back to Hutchinson they stopped at the Eisenhour Museum.
Kathleen Kuchar is having an art work show from May 1 30 at the Bank of Hays at 1000 West 27th in Hays. You may meet the artist at a reception May 16 at 2:00 p.m. Kathleen is a member of our Dream Workshop which meets once a month at Liebanhaus.
Scott Mays surprised his mother, Joyce Mays, his sister Michele and grandparents George and Joy Hunter in Long Beach this past week. It was his mothers birthday and Mothers Day.
We heard a great sound Thursday morning around noon. It was a train whistle. It was unloading grain cars at the elevators.
Angela Morgan had a pizza get-to-gather at her home Friday evening.
Tanner Higgins was a member of the winning 7th grade boys track meet at the HOA League meet in Gossel last Tuesday. He placed 2nd in long jump; 2nd in 75 meter hurdles, 2nd in 4x2 relay and anchored in the 1st place medley relay.
Hoisington High School held their High School graduation on Sunday, May 11, at 4:00 p.m. There were 47 class members that graduated. Cameron Horesky and Adam Demel were members of the graduating class. Tammy and Lonnie and Mike and Sandy Demel held a joint family get to gather at the home of the Irvins. Jerry, Jodi, Tanner, Jenna, Chuck, Zach, Kyra, Kayla, Lindsey, Nicole and Grandma Shirley all attended as well as many friends. The meal they served was prepared by all-star chef, Rob McGaughey and it received nothing but rave reviews from all those in attendance in Barton County.

Frank Thompson, son of Bryan and Cindy Thompson, and grandson of Ken and Lou Thompson has been accepted by Yale University.
Galen Allen and Carolyn Thompson attended the memorial and inurnment service for their classmate, Jim Hogan, at Great Bend on Saturday.
Shannon Keith celebrated her 11th birthday at her home in Ellsworth on Sunday with a barbecue. Guests were Keri, Rex, Raef, Makenzie and Kyler Boley, Louie and Juanita Boley, Ellsworth; Kenneth and Delberta Keith, Robert and Sharon Keith, Craig and Wanda Keith, Wellington; Kevin and Ruth Bante, David and Janet Dennis, Dave, Cathy, Brittany and Amanda Dennis, Wichita; Galen Allen, Great Bend and Carolyn Thompson, McCracken. It was hosted by her parents Mike and Susan Keith.
The Knights of Columbus presented each lady with a flower for Mothers Day at church. Also the ladies gave us a package of Shasta daisies to plant. Thanks a bunch to both groups.
Thanks to the vet for rescuing the four kittens under the hood of my car. They took a ride to LaCrosse on Monday and werent any worse for the trip.
Whitney Taylor won the 100 and the 200 in the MCL tournament in Phillipsburg.. She got second in the disc and third in the high jump. She was pictured in the Hays Daily News on Sunday.
McCracken History Notes:
May 1908
An Athletic meet will be held at Entre Nous College Friday. The exercises for the forenoon will be for pupils under sixteen years of age. The games consist of potato races, sack races, baseball and tennis. The program in the afternoon will consist of races, jumping, basketball, baseball and tennis. The activities will be under management of Mr. Ralph Stephens, president of the athletic association. Music will be furnished by the McCracken Band. Over 600 people were present. (a picture of the field day is shown on page 99 of the Hampton Book)

Fifteen members of the eighth grade will graduate. Frank Marak, Leonard Mills, Gerald Hinman, Kenneth Donecker, Jack Cheney, Vincent Moran, Earl Brenner, Doris Roughton, August Schutte, Mary Sweeney, Joe Thomas, Charlie Lee Thompson, Betty Jo Twiselton, Willa Lee Webster and Robert Klug.
The Brownell grade school was destroyed by fire Saturday morning. It was thought that lightning started the fire. It was built last year and this is the first year it has been used.

Mrs. Fern Ryan sold her residence property in McCracken the first of the week to Eddie Rein.
C. H. Nowles has sold his barber shop to Rev. John Jackson and is leaving McCracken to make his home in Walla Walla, Wash.
McCracken high school placed second in class D in the 26th annual state scholarship contest sponsored by Emporia State Teachers College. The tests which cover 58 different subjects were taken by approximately 4,500 Kansas schools students in grads seven thru 12 in 134 different schools.

The USD 395 school board approved contracts for Janice Stull to teach 6th grade at LaCrosse West and Craig Cooper to teach business at MHS.
Half of Fame members for 1978 to the Baseball Hall of Fame are Cookie League: Kellye Irvin, Bobby Peters and Jerry Casey; Old timers, Howard Ryan, Paul Musselman, Wesley Stephens, Bill Rice, Ivy Irvin and Petz Metz.
Ralph and Grace Thompson went on a bus tour to Nashville, Tennessee.

Joyce Showalter Eisenhour, Salina is the President of the Lindsborg Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, honorary womens music fraternity. Recently she was named Teacher of the Year of the Salina School District.
Sonic, Ben Thompsons hedge hog, was a featured guest at an outing in Washington, D. C. last weekend. He gave out porcupine eggs as gifts.
