Prescription drug abuse and crystal meth addiction is an epidemic in America, but in Whitley County, Kentucky there's an added twist: the man suspected of being in the center of its drug trade is the sheriff. He was brought down by the intensive research of two young journalists who work at the local daily paper. Many of our relatives and other residents of McCracken came from Whitley County back in the late 1880's. Because of that link, my cousin and I visited Whitley County almost 10 years ago. On an old map, we had located a place called "Lovitt Hollow" and were interested in seeing it. We found a resident in the vicinity and asked him for directions. He told us that the only way a person could get to it was with a 4-wheeler. But, worse, he advised us against going there because of the possible danger from the drug dealers who had located their meth labs in the area. We took his advice and left.

Comical Greek plays made this wild game the most interesting one of the season. The McCracken town team lost to Liebenthal last Sunday by a score of 14-7. McCracken made four three-base hits; about one half dozen two-base hits; about four or five singles but only seven runs. Liebenthal made two runs for every hit. A number of plays were made that had the fans standing on their feet in glee. A fly ball was hit out to left field, Hawley tipped the ball up in the air and Frank McGaughey took the tip for a put-out. The boys must have thought they were back in high school playing basketball.
