Aunt Ellen Kershner, surprised Melissa Schuckman Thompson on her way to Hutchinson last Wednesday. It was Melissas birthday. Ellen and Ruth Dellett stopped to see her at the Lyons Clinic where she is a phlebotomist. Melissa was in TOTAL surprise. Ellen and Ruth stopped on their way home at Melissas house in Sterling and treated her and Davis for pizza.
Dave and Carolyn Davenport were the first to visit and use the new wing of the Heart/Vascular Center at the Promise Medical Center in Hutchinson last Monday. Dave received a stent/balloon procedure. Hutchinson has been known for their great team of heart specialists and their technology just didn't think we would have to put them to the test.
An article from the Adams County Speedway History, Corning, Iowa was sent to us from Gerald Walker. The speed demons debut at Adams County Fair, August 8, 1929 listed among others, Tom Holden, with his famous Chrysler 70 and a host of other speed demons. In the second year of racing, 1930. Tom was again listed with his famous Chrysler 70.
Galen Oelkers was a weekend guest of his mother, Jean Oelkers.
Bill Foster, Colorado, Glenn Conner and Virginia Taylor were seen dining at Boondocks Saturday evening.
Congratulations to Courtney Gilbert on being chosen as cheer leader for the coming school year. She is a 6th grader.
Bill and Sharon Lovitt, Shirley Higgins joined Pat VanDoren and her daughter, Steve and Marilyn Sims at Boondocks Saturday evening.
The mother-daughter salad supper held Sunday evening at the Methodist Church was well attended. Lovely salads were served and beautiful antiques were shown. The program was the young girls playing bells.
Keith Elliott Gumm, 72, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the Billings Clinic in Billings, Mont. Keith was born on Dec. 1, 1937, in Kingsdown to Elliott A. Gumm and Lodema Clawson. He married Ross Irene Neely on Sept. 28, 1963, in Bucklin.
After graduating, he accepted a teaching position at McCracken High School, where he taught various science courses from 19621967. Since 1968, Keith taught chemistry, biology, physics and earth science at Terry High School. During his 42-year teaching tenure at Terry High, 1,111 students addressed Keith as Mr. Gumm. He was the athletic director for over 10 years and coached football and track in the Terry School District. He retired from full-time teaching in 2000 but continued to teach part-time.
Survivors include his wife, Ross Irene of 47 years; a son, Jason Gumm (Felicia Caime) of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Arlene (Wendell) Maddox of Hays; a brother, Jerry (Enid) Gumm of Dodge City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Gumm; and a son, Kellye, in 2006.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Terry High School gymnasium in Terry. Interment will be April 30 in the Ford County Cemetery in Ford County, Kan. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Terry is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Names will graduate from Lyons High School next Wednesday, which he has gone through principally by his own efforts. His mother will probably go down.
Jay Swanzy left Monday for Phoenix, Arizona, where he will enter the contracting business.

All members of the West-Burch Post No. 59 are requested to be present and take part in the parade on Decoration Day.
Oscar Elias is putting up two new homes on West Maple. Each is 25 x 40 and are modern in construction. Cal Wilson is the chief engineer. (The lumber for these two houses came from Barnard College, the homes are now occupied by the Ty Elias family and Mamie Crawshaw)

Leo and Rose Yost will retire as custodians of the Rush County Courthouse on July 1.
