On Thursday Mona McCurry Riley and her daughters Kelly and Stacy Riley were in McCracken to visit the Jail/Museum. They are the descendants of Daniel Casey, Sr. and Elizabeth (Eliza) O'Kane Casey who are buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Daniel was born in Antrim, Ireland in 1846 and died in McCracken in 1930. He and Eliza had 14 children. She was also born in Ireland - in 1856. She died in 1936. They lived with their son Archie Casey. On Wednesday they were able to visit with the Casey family at St. Mary's Church. Mona and her husband visited here during the Centennial in 1987 and had dinner with Sarah, Pat and Frances Casey. Joe took them around to the cemeteries. They also have some McCurry's in Ramsey Cemetery. The McCurry's were Scottish.

A baby shower was held for Carrie Goodheart, wife of Scott Goodheart, in Pratt on Sunday afternoon, April 24 at the Blue Moon Coffee House. Some of the family attending were Jodie Crocker, Manhattan, Susan Keith, Ellsworth and Carolyn Thompson, McCracken.

Our congratulations to Roberta Wierman who celebrated her 90th birthday. It is not too late to send her a card or stop by and visit her.

Sally Irvin and the Library Board announce that McCracken Public Library will be open on Memorial Day beginning at 12:30 p.m.

A gift of the Army Song Book has been made to the Jail/Museum. It was compiled by the Adjutant General's Office in collaboration with the Library of Congress and published by order of the Secretary of War in 1941. It belonged to Fritz Lovitt.

The McCracken Methodist Church is sponsoring a mother/daughter salad supper May 1. You are asked to bring a salad and favorite photo of your mother, grandmother or an aunt to share. The program begins at 4:00 p.m. with the supper at 5:00.

Thursday, April 28 the LaCrosse High School golf team will be hosting a golf tournament at the McCracken golf course. All are welcome to watch.

Sunday, May 1 is the first McCracken Golf Tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. It is a 2 person scramble, $25.00 a person. All golfers welcome.

All golfers are asked to pay their dues. You can’t have a golf course or a business if people don’t help support it. You may pay Les Diehl or Norma McNair.

WEATHER PERMITTING ON ALL TOURNAMENTS. WE WILL MAKE ALL WEATHER DECISIONS AT TIME OF THE TOURNAMENT. $$$ PRIZES ON ALL TOURNAMENTS. AMOUNT DEPENDS ON NUMBER OF GOLFERS.. QUESTIONS? LES DIEHL 785-230- 4433 OR BRUCE DAVIS 785-394-1048. ALL TOURNAMENTS ARE 18 HOLES UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED!!!

Please come by the McCracken Methodist Church after the Memorial service for Shannon McKinney on May 28 as a lunch will be served.

A BIG thank you to Sandra Jacobs on starting the process to clean the inside of the clubhouse. She is cleaning out cupboards, washing dishes etc. It takes each and every one of us to make it work in a small town!

Mark your calendars for May 6 -- 8 McCracken Pride will be working to clean up the weeds and grass in front of the Welcome signs. There will be other cleanup and projects to get ready for the long Memorial Day weekend. Anything and everything you can do is very much appreciated! Those two days would be a good time to clean up around your house.....we all have ‘junk’ we need out of our yards. Ask our mayor if we may have a McCracken Clean Up Day!!!
On Saturday, May 7th volunteers are ask to help with getting the pool ready for the summer season. The time will be posted later.

Cathy and Ron Casey and Catherine and friend Kelsey were in McCracken at their home. Ron worked in their yard after the wonderful rain that was received last week-end; Cathy helped clean the golf course. They also visited with mom, Arline.
