Rain Blessed Rain.

The rain dancers of the book club says if you appreciated the rain, send a donation to the McCracken Public Library.

The St. Joseph of Liebenthal ladies also had a part. They did a nine day novena to St. Isidore, patron of farmers for rain.
We had three recent deaths that had McCracken connections:

Jean Myrl (Bross) Richardson, 85, of Otis. She was married to Clarence Martin, “C. M.” Richardson. They lived in McCracken where her husband held his first principal position. He then went to Otis in 1959.

Dorothy Kraus Bemis, age 93, died in Colorado Springs. She was the daughter of Carl and Sadie Wilson Kraus. Sadie Wilson was a native of McCracken. She is survived by three brothers, Kenneth and Harold of Hays and Warren of Ellis and three children.

Frances Regina Kisslinger Casey, 90, married Patrick Casey of McCracken on June 1, 1948. She was a homemaker and farm wife south of McCracken. She is survived by six sons and two daughters. Three of their daughters are deceased, Patricia Harman, Cheryl Wiesner and Laura Linsey, her husband Patrick, her sister Betty who was married to Joe Casey of McCracken. Frances or “Fritzie” was a faithful member of St. Mary's Church, McCracken. She said the rosary at mass for many years. After the closing of the church she attended church at Liebenthal and then LaCrosse.

Last Monday Diz and Wilma Washaliski, Carolyn Thompson and Ben Thompson met Steve Sloan to tour the places where early settlers went to break out stone post rock to make fence posts. Diz' grandfather and Ben's grandfather both made the trip to the quarries so they could fence their ground.

Watch for deer. Rob had two deer hit his pickup the other morning. They did considerable damage.

Please mark your calendar for Saturday, May 28. At 11:00 a.m. at McCracken City Cemetery there will be a memorial for Shannon McKinney at his grave marker. He was a decorated Army veteran of Delta Force. All his friends and those wanting to honor at true warrior should plan to attend. Those wanting to visit can come to the McCracken United Methodist Church after the service. Rev. Janice will conduct the service.

At 4:00 p.m. on May 28, there will be mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Matthew Kumi presiding.

Was very nice visiting with Valerie Mills in Walmart at Great Bend Tuesday. She said she belongs to a group called Artists At Large and they will have a show at Deines Cultural Center, Russell, Kansas, April 22. She has 5 pieces on display.

Marlene Funk had a nice visit with Larry Holden on the phone the other day. She said they talked about 2 hours. He asked about everyone in McCracken and said to tell everyone hi. He told her his sister, Jackie, lived close by and Tommy has been gone about two years.

Several McCrackenites attended “48 Years of Fun in Just One Lifetime” presented by the Hays High Plains Barber Shoppers Saturday afternoon.

I watched 30 for 30 last night, the segment about the Duke LaCrosse team, isn’t there anyone in our justice system honest? The prosecutor withheld evidence that the 3 young men accused were innocent. If you have a chance, watch it.

I had an email (with picture) from Thomas and Becky Repp, American Road Magazine editors, with a picture of their new daughter born March 14.......Sonnet. She is precious.

1975 History Notes:

Fans at Larks Park Tuesday were treated to one of the more exciting games of the season when Hays American Legion and the Brownell American Legion went at it for 15 innings before Brownell pulled it out 6-3. The impressive crew won the contest in the top of the 15th scoring 3 runs on a walk by Jerry Higgins, singles by Terry Weeks and Leslie Rogers and a double by Glenn Ryan. The team used three pitchers, Steve Foreman, Chuck and Jerry Higgins. Gerald Whitis won a Panasonic 19” color TV in a sweepstakes drawing at Schwab’s in LaCrosse. Douglas Higgins and Mary Mercer were married in Fredonia July 12. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Taylor and family and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Derr and family entertained with a farewell supper Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Al Rues and family who will be moving to Lewis. Franklin Littler received 1st place in the tractor pulling contest at the Rush County Fair. Kimberly Elmore Brockman has completed the clinical teaching phase of her teacher’s education program at KU. Bill Zeller is working for Shell Oil Company in the South China Sea. Trenton Herdman, age 6, has a make-do-fruit stand at the edge of K-4 highway. Business is great.....he has sold about a dollars’ worth of cucumbers. In the little league tournament McCracken A team won second place with a loss to Larned 4-3. Outstanding plays were made by Neal Jacobs, Jeff McCormick, Dale Elias and Tony Rues. The team also won the sportsmanship award. Rush County’s population if 5,299. A first class postage stamp is 10 cents. The school district determined that when the temperature rises over the 100* mark school will be let out early.
