Lynn Kochenower was in Chadron, Nebraska for the weekend. She visited friends and worked on a ranch.

On Tuesday the McCracken Main Street Literary Society did a rain dance in front of the library, but it hasn't worked as yet. We get excited about many things like clouds. Come join us at the book club, Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.

Amy Bickel and Kathy Hanks, of The Hutchinson News were in town on Monday to see the Paper Moon display at the Jail/Museum. Amy writes the column on Abandoned Towns and Kathy writes about interesting people and places. After visiting the museum and the library, they stopped by the Barnard Bell, the Nichol Cemetery (where Paper Moon began), by the Jefferis home and Hargrave. They then were going on to check out Nekoma. Those enjoying their visit were Phyllis Conrad, Shirley Higgins, Lynnette Doornbos and Carolyn Thompson.

Flynn, Audra and Perrin Holland came to visit her grandmother Joann Micheli March 23 from Albuquerque. Flynn went back the 26th for work, Audra and Perrin left later as Mark McCormick and Linda Sloan Dale took her home. Linda’s son Evan Dale will receive his degree in May from Boulder, Colorado and Audra will receive her degree from New Mexico University.

A couple of reminders:

1. Dues are now due for 2016. You can send dues to Norma McNair, McCracken, KS 67556 or you can put them in the money slot in the money box at the golf course. We need everyone to pay their 2016 dues!

2. The workday is SATURDAY, APRIL 16 AT 9:00 AM. Bring shovels, rakes, chainsaws and gloves.

3. We have loaded the course on FreeCaddie.com and GolfLogix.com under McCracken Country Club. You can go to the websites and look at the course layout which is mostly accurate. You can also download a free app from each site which should allow you to use the app for yardages, to keep score, etc. while you play. I haven’t been to the course to test it yet, but hopefully it is working!

4. The first tournament is Sunday May 1st at 8:30 AM. It is a 2 person scramble, $50 per team. Get your team ready now!

Seth Albers won the rifle in the raffle held at Brownell American Legion Saturday evening, Nathan Felder won the TV.

Did you get to be an extra when they filmed the movie "Paper Moon" back in 1973? Did you get to help with the equipment? Do you have photos of the movie shoot? Or just very fond memories of watching it all happen? Mary and Martin Higgins were weekend guests of Les and Rose Diehl in Topeka. Mary, Martin, Les and Rose attended the annual fundraiser for the Topeka Helping Hands Humane Society event "Paws in the Park". Still trying to convince Martin that Mary needs a new fur baby!!!!

Cathy and Ron Casey spent the weekend visiting with mom Arline in McCracken. Ron always looks forward to coming home to work in his yard!!! Also visiting was Catherine Casey and her friend Kelsey who is taking classes at Fort Hays State.

Spanky, Leslie, Lillian and Jackson McGaughey have new additions to their family. One of their goats had triplets!!!

Jodi Higgins spent the weekend in Lawrence on the KU campus with her daughter, Jenna Higgins. It was Mother’s weekend.

Was very nice seeing and visiting with Vic and Susie Parsons in LaCrosse this past Friday.

The pictures posted on Facebook of Prom night were outstanding. Such good-looking girls and boys and the dresses were beautiful.

1975 History notes

The following athletes participated in the junior Olympics in LaCrosse: Donna Greenway, Ellen Davis, Shannon and Shawn McKinney, Fred Taylor, Mike Still, Jerry Casey and Sean Miller. The all qualified for the State meet in Manhattan June 6-7. 1975 MHS Senior graduates: James Unrein, Julie Seltman, Fritz Foster, Sherry Peta, Rob McGaughey, Jerry Higgins, Gary Schuckman, Don Casey, Bill Greenway, Sally Buster, Richard Conrad, Nancy Higgins, Mike Moran, Glenn Ryan, Linda Sloan, Debi Baus, Rosemary Rues, Greg Hinman, Allen Kober, Kent Brown. Valedictorian was Nancy Higgins, Salutatorian was Greg Hinman. McCracken Community Club is building a memorial at the site of the old “Entre Nous College” founded by Howard Barned four miles north and three miles east of McCracken. The Health and Home EHU Unit will place the original bell on the memorial. The land for the project has been donated by the family of the late Oscar Elias. The Brownell Legion baseball team opened their season with a 9-5 win over Wakeeney. Greg Hinman had two hits with the winning pitcher Steve Foreman. Vida Schraeder Irvin attended the reunion of her 1940 class at LaCrosse Saturday evening. In Cookie Baseball action McCracken defeated LaCrosse two games, 13-2 and 15-1. In the second game Tom Rues, Layne Morgan and Jerry Casey had 10 of 15 hits. Wheat in McCracken is running between 20-49 bushels an acre. Mitchell, Michael, Martin and Matt Pfannenstiel spent last week with their grandparents, Oliver and Willetta Herdman.
