Bruce and Meredith Winters, Wilfrid and Twila Higgins, Russ and Laura Linsey and Jean Schutte were guests of James and Billie Slemp at the Golden Corral in Hays one evening last week. They were all together celebrating birthdays.
Monday Bob House motored to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where he visited his sister, Melissa Bowersock for a couple of days. Tuesday he drove on to Headland, Alabama where he was a guest of Tom and Nettie Chestnut, Colby, Kaitlyn and Tyler. Saturday evening Bob, Nettie and Kaitlyn were eating at the Road House café in Dothan and when they got ready to leave someone called out Bob?.....Bob said Curly? It was Curly Juvenal and his wife Eve. They had a nice, short visit. Sunday Bob attended the church where Tom is preacher. He started home Tuesday and arrived here Wednesday.
Jerry and Tanner Higgins attended the baseball games in Lyons Friday evening. Lyons hosted the Hoisington Cardinals and they split. Hoisington lost the 1st game and won the 2nd. Cameron Horesky, Chuck Higgins and Lonnie Irvin also attended. Zach Higgins is a member of the Hoisington team.
Alicia Rues Barrett was a weekend guest of her mother Arline Rues. They attended the honorary teacher conference held in Great Bend Saturday morning.
The answer to the trivia question last week: They all received speeding and reckless driving tickets from Joe Casey in the amount of $10.
Rick and Debbie Smith, Maybe, Michigan, were last Monday Wednesday guests of Joe and Kay Slemp. Rick is a brother of Kay. This weekend Jeremy, Ashley and Dakota Slemp were guests Joe and Kay.
Audra Dale, Glenwood Springs, Colorado and her brother Evan Dale, Littleton, Colorado were Monday - Friday guests of their grandmother, Joann Micheli. They played a lot of scrabble but mostly just enjoyed. Audra is a freshman in college and Evan a sophomore in high school.
A paint party was held this past week at the house on West Beech, the former Robert Tilford residence. Rose Diehl, Sue Davis and Norma McNair were the party goers.
Monday evening Joe and Kay Slemp treated James and Billie Slemp to good eats at 4-Corners restaurant for Billies birthday.

A birthday party was held at the Sitn Bull Restaurant in Otis on March 21st to celebrate the birthdays of Grandma Sharon Foust birthday March 19; Nicole birthday March 20; Crystal birthday March 23 and Terrie birthday March 29. Guests were Kaden, Anton and Chad Foust, Mitchell Jacobs, Roy and Kelly Jones, Annie Kaus, Cody Prosser, Kayla Irvin, Nicolas Moeder, Ricky McMillan, Jeremiah Marvin, Matt and Zack Elliott, Shelly Dewald, Steve and Evie John, Brady Butler, Mike, Anna, Caleb and Preston Cheeley.
A memorial has been received in memory of Frances Janke to the Jail/Museum from Bruce and Ellen Kershner and family.
Those attending the Encore series musical, Aint Misbehavin at Beach Schmidt Performing Arts Center on Friday evening were Zelda Brack, Marie Lilly, Ellen Kershner, Ruthetta Irvin, Carol Weber, Shirley Higgins, Carolyn Thompson, Galen Allen, Lorraine Ryan, Joan Micheli, John and Janice Stull, John and Sharon Irvin, Kelsee Rogers, Al and Judy Hugh and Marsha Swanson.
We were please to see that Dustin and Lisa (Groff) Day and their children Keldon and McKaylee are moving to LaCrosse. He has been hired to work at Golden Belt as a Combination Technician. He previously was employed by Rural Telephone. Lisas mother is Cheryl Davis Werth, formerly of McCracken.
Michael Greenway was in the senior presentation, performed at Western Plains High School on Monday entitled Baby Talk. It portrayed their days in Wee Ones nursery school. Michael was also named to the Cheyenne Conference All-League Second Five team in basketball.
Our sympathy to the family of E. Z. Fortune, 86, who died at Hutchinson. He married Doris C. Schwartzkopf on May 2, 1989. She survives. Other survivors are sons, Jerry and Jay, daughter, June Davis; step-son, Rod Adkinson, step-daughter, Penny Lesley; brother, Keith Fortune; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Burial was at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson with military rites conducted by the U. S. Navy Honor Guard. He was the auditor for the State of Kansas.

Susan Keith was in a Cantata on Palm Sunday in Ellsworth and Salina. She writes, This lady from Salina at Cantata looked pretty familiar. Somebody called her Cheryl......Cheryl Foreman and her husband Milt are both in it. Small world!!!!!
Gerald Walker, Corning, Iowa, and Juanita Caviness, Prattville, Alabama, were here while their mother, Grace Walker Thompson, was in the hospital. They stayed with their sister, Pat Derr. While here, Pat and Gerald drove through the Philip Ranch and visited with Ms. Philip-Sprague. Gerald has a document that tells about the Philips trailing cattle through the Campbell Ranch. It states, I, Noble Campbell do hereby grant permission to W. D. Philip, or family, to drive cattle through the Campbell pasture in Trego County, Kansas, as long as I own the same. Mr. Philip to keep his cattle separate from our cattle. Signed Noble Campbell. Gerald gave a copy of the document to the Jail/Museum. The Walkers lived on the Campbell Ranch.

Professor T. H. Barrington (McCracken schools) was into LaCrosse to the teachers meeting and R. H. Barnard and F. C. Brackney (also teachers) were in town Saturday.

Claude Stephens school at Otis closed Friday and Jack Farleys school near Alexander closed on Saturday.
Miss Grace Ryan, Miss Etta Johnson, Miss Mabel Twiselton, Mr. Guy Ryan, Mr. Clifford Anderson, Miss Mary Sweeney and Frank Hicks attended the Messiah at Lindsborg last Sunday.

The workmen have started to lay brick on the new Norlin Building. The following will be involved in the construction, plumbing and heating: R. E. Meneley of LaCrosse: electric wiring, Roy Wilson, LaCrosse; F. G. Hall the contractor for the brick work plastering; head carpenter, Cal Wilson. Mr. Hall is going to move to McCracken.

Margaret Louise Shiney won the first round of the county spelling contest for grade school pupils. She will be the countys entrant in the state contest to be held in Topeka this fall.
Wheat price is 59 cents; cream 18 cents; eggs 13 cents.
April 1949
City elections were held on Tuesday. George Meyer was elected city commissioner. Claude Stephens is the out going commissioner. He joins Gerald Anderson and Sylvester Scheideman on the commission.
April 1959
Library Day will be observed the 18th at McCracken Library. June Bible, Helen Showalter and Helen VanWinkle were in Hays Monday buying new books for both children and adults which will be on display at the library on Saturday.
April 1969
Wilma North is student teaching in the 3rd grade at the Rush Center Grade School.
Betty Moran received a broken ankle during athletic practice at school Thursday.

Dr. and Mrs. Carl Hammer spent the week with Eric Washaliski while his parents were in Monte Carlo.
