Jimmie Lee Swartz was born in Southwest City, Mo. on February 17, 1933.  He was the ninth child of Samuel and Myrtle (Wright) Swartz.  After his father died in 1941, he moved to McCracken, Kan. with his mother and attended school here.  In 1950, he moved to Rosholt, S. D. to live with his sister Mazie and Les LeClair.  On June 15, 1951, Jim married Jeanne Hahn in Rosholt.  In 1954, Jim was inducted into the army at Fort Riley, Kan.  He was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas and Camp Hanford, Wash.  He was a member of the 10th Infantry Division, Company 187th, Fourth Platoon.  He was appointed rural mail carrier in 1958 and had 43 years of service to the U. S Government. Jim was a member of Bethanie Lutheran Church, Council and Choir, American Legion, Rosholt Fire and Ambulance Department.  Survivors include his wife Jeanne; three sons, Douglas, Daniel and Todd; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon Swartz, two sisters, Rose Grumbein and Louise Niblack.  Jim died March 10, 2006 at Rosholt, S.D.  The funeral service was held at the Bethanie Lutheran Church. Burial was in Bethania Cemetery, Rosholt.

Congratulations to Cody Prosser on his confirmation which was held Saturday evening at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in LaCrosse.  His sponsor was Richard Baldwin.  His parents, Tom and Brenda Littler Prosser hosted a barbeque dinner afterwards at their home.
 
Jerry and Jodi Higgins, Tanner and Jenna spent spring break in St. George, Utah.  While Jerry was standing in line at a restaurant in Mesquite, NV he started visiting with the lady standing behind him.  When he mentioned he was from Kansas the lady told him her parents were married in Kansas, in McCracken.  She was Doris Smelie, the step-daughter of Eddie Swisher.  Eddie was a 1932 graduate of MHS and he died in 2002.
 
Lorraine Ryan returned home this week after spending several weeks visiting her daughter, Martin and Cathie Shapiro, Jessica and Lauren in Sacramento.
 
Erica Gilbert celebrated her 7th birthday Friday evening with girl friends Addie Schroeter and Taylor Morgan.  She is the daughter of Brett and Holly Gilbert, granddaughter of Babe and Arlene Wilson Gilbert.

Mrs. Bob Higgins and Mrs. Ralph Plotner entertained a group of little folks with a party Thursday afternoon at the Plotner home, honoring the birthdays of Bobbie and Carolyn Higgins.  They children played games, following which the hostesses served refreshments.  The guests were Reva and Carla Rodeman, Carol Bible, Norman Pfannenstiel, Patricia Ryan, Paul Leonhart, Perry Irvin, Bobbie Peters, Martin and Lennie Higgins, Bobbie, Carolyn and Marilyn Higgins, Mrs. Mary Higgins, Mrs. Bob Higgins and Mrs. Plotner.

Gloria Baus Bland, McCracken music director has announced that nominations for Lynette Legleiter, Marsha Healy and Robin Schuckman have been received and approved by the national office for Who's Who among Music Students in American High Schools.  The nominees are members of the McCracken High School Band and Madrigal Singers.
 
March 1986
Chris Jones is a patient in Ransom Hospital following an accident south of McCracken.
 
Debra Baus Schuckman, wife of Myron Schuckman, was crowned Mrs. North Carolina in Wilmington, North Carolina and is now competing in the Mrs. America pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada.
 
March 1996
McCracken Fire District #7 has a brand spankin' new fire truck.  They received it Wednesday the 20th.
