I read in the Hutch News editorial page about the Dolly Parton Imagination Library where a child from birth will receive a free book each month until 5 years of age to all families, no matter their income. I believe you need sponsors to pay for shipping charges. The program is now in all the schools in Reno County. Wouldn't it be a wonderful program for Rush County? You may go online or the editorial is in the Saturday, March 24 edition of the Hutchinson News for more information.

Family and friends gathered on Saturday afternoon for the fourth birthday of Lillian McGaughey at the home of her parents, Aaron and Lesley McGaughey in LaCrosse

The McCracken Mustangs Relay for Life Team had a very successful Dessert Fundraiser at the McCracken American Legion. We sincerely appreciate the Legion letting us join them in their fundraising event and we had a great time. The desserts donated were fantastic and from the reaction and taste testing all were quite yummy. Again, the residents of McCracken were very generous and it is greatly appreciated.

Jerry, Chuck, Tanner and Shirley Higgins attended funeral services for Carl Strecker in Salina Monday morning.

The Pizza and Bingo night has been canceled for March 31st due to March Madness Final Four playoffs.  We will have Bingo and snacks on Sunday April 1st at the McCracken Community Center from 3 - 6 pm.  The cost is $5 for 3 cards, $4 for 2 cards, $3 for 2 cards and free snacks. This is a fundraiser for the McCracken Swimming Pool.  Carol and I are well aware this community has been asked to give much with all the fundraisers and you have been so generous that it is humbling.  We hope to continue to give you something for your generous contributions and assistance.  So, if you can, please join us for fun, games, fun-filled prizes and laughter on April Fool's Day.  With sincere gratitude for your support, Carol Weber and Charmaine Wolfe.

The McCracken boys and girls won the county tournament held at McCracken. The Otis boys were confident of victory over McCracken in the finals but the cool, confident precision with which the McCracken lads went into the contest gave them a commanding lead early in the game. Alexander and Rush Center were tied at the final whistle in their consolation game and had to play an overtime period in which Alexander won. The McCracken girls won over Ransom despite Helen Irvin, the crack forward, was handicapped by a severely sprained ankle. Helen and Lucille Elmore tied for first honors in the total number of baskets shot in the tournament. Each girl dropped in six field goals. The fighting first string line-up is: Helen, Lucille, Luceil Plotner, Bernetta Marak, Delores Hammond and
Gwendolyn Prowant. Reserves include Frances Conner, Hazel Earl, Jane Glaspy, Marjorie Norlin, Lenore Ramsey, Zella Mae Doerr and Lorene Schutte.

A record each game seems to be the slogan of Forrest Ramsey, McCracken High school’s pitcher. A week ago he struck out 21 Ransom hitters and allowed one hit in a seven inning game. Then Monday he pitched a no –hit game against Otis here on the home field. Otis had one of the best high school teams we have seen. This young pitcher has a world of speed, has curves and his control is fairly good. His battery mate, Wilbur Hawley is responsible for many of the runs scored by the local team. With wins over LaCrosse and Schoenchen in the past week leaves the McCracken team undefeated. The last game of the season will be played on the Alexander field this coming Friday.

Jack Crispin is the sole owner and operator of the Drug Store Museum in Lincoln, KS.  If you haven't made it over to view this soon to be world famous institution, please consider yourself invited.  Visit crispinsdrugstoremuseum.com, then let him know when you want to visit, as his operating hours are "by chance or appointment."  He is ordinarily here every
afternoon, but he would hate for you to make a trip if he is elsewhere.  He is also our area representative for the Kansas Museums Association.  The Jail/Museum is a member.
