Jeanette McCormick returned home this weekend from Tulsa, Oklahoma where she visited her daughter, Melody Kelley and daughter Chezney. It was spring break in Tulsa.
 
Jerry Higgins and Tanner spent Saturday, Sunday and Monday in Hoisington and McCracken.
 
Les and Rose Diehl and Alex Casey were McCracken weekend visitors. Rose and Alex returned home on Tuesday.
 
Austin McGaughey, Laurene Sewell, Audrey and Sarah Dome, Derek Derr, Ashley McGaughey and Ashley’s friend Melissa enjoyed dinner with Dylan Derr for his birthdayin Salina Saturday evening.
 
Joy Hunter is a patient at Hays Med Center from a fall at home.
 
Ashley McGaughey took part in the Rite of Election at the Cathedral in Salina on Saturday evening. Rob, Helena and Austin were in attendance.

On Sunday Wilfrid and Twila Higgins went to Lyons to spend the night with Doug Higgins and went to Hutchinson for the funeral of Mike Wiebe's sister on Monday.
 
Our sympathy to the family of Helen Yost, 77, who died March 17, 2011. She was the daughter of Charles H. and Della Marvin. The family moved to McCracken in 1928 where Charlie was the depot agent for the Missouri Pacific Railroad.   Helen was born on February 25, 1934 while they lived in McCracken.  In the summer of 1937 they moved to LaCrosse where Charlie was the depot agent until he retired in 1961  Helen married Howard Yost on June 13, 1953.  He survives along with sons, Bradley, Dion and Trevor; daughter Valerie Tuggle, 11 grandchldren and two great-grandchildren. Two siblings pre-deceased her - Leon Marvin and L. Louise Marvin Burnham.  Burial was in the LaCrosse City Cemetery.  Helen was for many years an Avon lady who served McCracken.  She was a delight to visit with at her husband's kiosk in the Mall in Hays. 
 
Museum news:
Four McCracken Enterprise newspapers have been donated to the museum.  They are March 16, 1928, December 7, 1928, April 11, 1938, November 19, 1942.
 
A sculpture of "The Outlaw" by Frederick Remington has been purchased by the museum for its rodeo collection.
 
 Memorials have been received from Bob House, Barbara Montonye, Shirley Higgins and Marge Moran to the Jail/Museum in memorial of Galen Allen.
 
 Memorials have been received from Dell L. Burnham, Laramie, Wyoming, in memory of  L. Louise (Marvin) Burnham, Leon and Lurene Marvin and Helen Marvin Yost. 
 
A notebook of pictures has been donated to the museum by Gerald Crotinger.  Some of the pictures include the old grain auger that was dismantled and put on the roof of the High School building over the office in 1955; the Humburg Truck 1956, the cheerleaders, Mary Vogel, Reva Davenport, Sandra Graves and Carol Rein, the school plays, classmates 1958.
 
Wilfrid and Twila Higgins went to Lakin Saturday for Cody's confirmation.  They had a chance to visit with the new Bishop Brungardt.
 
Ben Thompson and Carolyn Thompson were in Russell on Tuesday to visit Allan Thompson.  They then went to Ellsworth for the 7-12 music concert.
Susan Keith directed the Junion High Choir and played for the Senior High Choir.  Shannon played in the band and sang in the choir.
 
150th Kansas birthday note
 
Mark your calendar for the Longhorn cattle drive in honor of the 150th year of Kansas.   Four-hundred head will be driven 200 miles from Caldwell to Ellsworth.  The drive will begin September 3 on the historic Cox Cattle Trail.  It will end at Ellsworth on September 19.  Even greenhorns can join in the drive if they are willing to pay the big bucks.
 
Come to McCracken:  Our celebration will feature the 25th annual McCracken Rodeo to be held on July 6-9, 2011.  Make plans now to attend.

March 1911
County treasurer Frank Wray says up-to-date he has purchased, under the law directing such matters, 6000 rabbit scalps.  These scalps, at 3 cents, cost the county $1,800 which in general opinion is money well spent.
 
March 1941
Some of the winners in the Waring Township Spelling and Reading contest are Veta Vane Walker, Gerald Walker, Doris Schwartzkopf.  The following schools entered the contest:  Red Wing, Danby, Prairie View, Cottage, Red Top and Brownell Grade School.

March 1961
Second place winners of the Rush County Grade School basketball tournament were the McCracken Bluebirds!  Members are Daryl North, Tony Harp, Bill Zeller, Jimmy Brown, Dennis Peters, Douglas Higgins, Ronnie Rein, Gene Petz, Philip Peck and Mike Peters.  Coach LeeRoy Schuckman.  Bison was the first place winner.
 
March 1981
Members of the MYF and CYO left Friday morning for a ski trip to Boulder, Colorado.  Those attending were Jeff McCormick, Neal and Sandra Jacobs, Shawn and Kelly McKinney, Craig and Mike Stull, Kevin Rourke, Randy Conrad, Chris Jones, Joy Mills, Annette Davis, Richard Wittman and Doug Elias.  Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Bet McCormick, Mr. and Mrs. John Stull and Rev. Lloyd Swindler.
 
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Terry Miller, twin girls, Leanne Rene and Deanne Marie, March 13 in Cimarron.
