A late season snow storm covered Rush County on the first day of spring. Amounts of 5-8 inches of the white stuff covered the county giving it the first measurable moisture for the year.
Jeff McCormick attended the NCAA basketball tournament in Salt Lake City this weekend. He was a guest of Doug Kirmer.
Catherine Katie Klee, 83, died March 14, 2006 in Wichita. She was the wife of Francis Klee.
Those playing in the McCracken Methodist Church Hand Bell Choir are: Dena Irvin, Kerri Morgan, Sharon Irvin, Sheryl Rogers, Brenda Legleiter, Bailey Venters, Arlene Gilbert, Ruthanne Crawshaw, Janice Stull, Debbie Rogers and Kelsee Rogers.
Susan Thompson Keith spent a week during spring break in Washington, DC with the Ellsworth Band and Choir.
Richard Conrad, St. Louis, taught a Geo Specialist class on Monday and Tuesday at Fort Hays State University through his work.
Shirley Higgins and Tammy Irvin visited with LuAnne Mathias in San Jose, California during spring break. Joining them were Robin Mathias, St. George, Utah and John Mathias, San Jose.
Please mark your calendars for RODEO weekend, July 7 & 8, 2006. This year there will be a parade honoring the 20th anniversary of the rodeo on Saturday afternoon. Mary Beth Peach has designed a cancellation stamp for the post office. The McCracken Jail Museum will feature rodeo.
History Notes
March 1946
Sgt. Orville G. Wahl arrived in the States coming from Tokyo aboard the hospital ship USS Comfort. Sgt. Wahl has been hospitalized with an infected hand since January. He had been in the Pacific Theater of War for 15 months.
March 1956
The one-act play from the McCracken High School drama department received a II rating in the drama festival at Hays on Saturday. Taking part in the play were Carolyn Oller, Diana Walker, Faye Smith, John Hanson, Perry Irvin and Bobby Higgins. Mrs. Margaret Buxton is the director. Tacy Hanson and Gladys Fear accompanied them to Hays.
March 1966
Arlyn North will be stationed at Fort Sam Houston; Jimmy Muller is stationed in San Diego with the Marines.
Congratulations to Lester and Phyllis Rein Higgins on the birth of a daughter, Sarena Ann, Born March 6, 1966.

Sally Irvin attended the third annual mathematics day at Fort Hays Kansas State College.
March 1986
For the 2nd consecutive year the Bazine Indians returned to the State 1A basketball tournament in Hays. Kris Bromlow was on the 1st team for the Hutchinson News, Great Bend Tribune and the Wichita Eagle-Beacon. Chris Casey made the all tournament team at the St. John Tournament. The Bazine girls attended sub-state in Dodge City. Paula Crawshaw had a total of 258 points for the season.
